The end of 2019 not only marks a time to look back on the top games of this year, but the top games that defined the entire decade of the 2010s. As someone who has watched nearly every Game Theory video (I'd say, without hyperbole, about 98%), the monologue at 02:00 is some of (if not the) best writing in the series, ever - and the accompanying editing/sound mixing really pushed it over the top in terms of quality. I actually back-tapped a few times just to rewatch that one part, I enjoyed it so much. Truly, well done.

I feel like terraria at least deserves an honorable mention, I think it influenced steam gaming and a slow paced or fast paced game, and have one of the biggest modding canvases out there with tons of people making new mods everyday.

This was a great list, MatPat! I love how much nostalgia was thrown at me by this and it really opened my eyes about a few of your key points here. I'm really surprised that Undertale wasn't on the list, because it really changed the way people saw RPGs and it would also have been a great way to talk about the dark sides of fandoms and how it changed a lot of the fandom communities online, and why some gamers get hate for what games they enjoy. I feel like it also forced its way into media, but I digress.
I am so freaking happy that Amnesia was in the video. Clicking on it I wasn't even expecting it having it's title shown.
I'm still waiting for that gameplay.

No, it didn’t. It was an average indie horror game that created KRplus, not the horror scene. That credit can be attributed to Slender, which revolutionized the horror scene.

2. Minecraft would be a good contender bc it wasn’t mentioned yet, and, have you seen some of the merch for that game?
3. Undertale, reason already given, and he made an entire video based around the influence that Undertale had on the gaming world, and the world in general. To paraphrase what Matt said, it showed that violence wasn’t the only answer to conflict, and it sparked a wave of pacifist playthroughs of games like Call of Duty and stuff like that.

Could probably do a video on the enthusiasm and excitement level people like you were at in December 2019 before the news of the pandemic went public and then worldwide. A video on how we get so excited and hopeful at the end of the year, looking forward to the next year hoping for the best and then discover the harsh reality in the middle of that year. 20/20 was not what we expected at all. is that news broke just several months earlier, you likely wouldn't have been able to do that St. Jude's event with so many people in the same room. I feel like this thing has really changed people, it's made us so much more wary and cautious of our surroundings and everything we touch. It sucks

The Game Theorists hi I’m just casually watching and I noticed how you put put battlefront2 in your top 8 games of the decade in there for a negative reason which would be the pay to win mechanics but you should have mentioned the complete rebirth and recovery that has happened. I hope that you can do a video in the future about it I stuck with the game from launch and loved what it has become of it.
