There has been a controversy brewing on the Minecraft side of KRplus centered around well known Minecraft creator Dream. He's been accused of faking his speedrun and it has caused a lot of stir. I'm not here to point fingers or accuse anyone. What I'm doing today, Theorists, is going over the facts of this situation and why it is a lot more complicated than people are making it out to be.

I unironically agree with this. All “arguments” against him only shows how hard it is to believe and not how much he cheated. They fail to acknowledge that rounding probability to 0 is never good.
This is what happens if you ignore the existence of the small possibilities.
Now that Dream confessed to cheating, I think it's clear why MatPat avoided making a conclusion: He knew the math said that it was very likely that Dream cheated but didn't want to conclude that since he knew Dream.

@@Commando_scylla it’s a theory, if you didn’t know LOL. But if you changed a necessary drop to 50% drop rate. You would have a higher chance at submitting a ru whilst getting 0% of the drops than 100% of the drops, even though they have EQUAL chances of dropping. In the stream the SINGLE moderator (who is coincidently banned from the speedrun staff community) erased over 100 failed runs that dream used, which makes his drop rate the same as illuminas, 40%. BUT that mod cherry picked the targeted runs on 1.16 which came to a false conclusion of a very high chance (7.5 trillion). It’s also verified that the moderator DID cherry pick all of Dreams suspicious activities and removed all of his VERIFIED information and runs.

Anyone who thought MatPat of all people would even have any clue what he was talking about when it came to this topic anyway is clueless to begin with. All the experts on the subject say Dream cheated. So Dream cheated. That’s really all it comes down to.

At this point people just accusing dream cheating because they hate him, no logical explanation anymore. They just use that 1 of 7.5 trillion number whatever as arguments, there is no other proof that he is use cheat in form of object. and you see here people just say he is cheat because they hate dream, let me tell you this just because some speedrunner who don't have any mathematical certificates and run a random simulation with wrong mechanics say dream is cheat doesn't mean that dream is actually cheating. @@FabricOfReality73 Nobody forces anyone to speedrun MC 1.16. Some speedrunners enjoy RNG, some hate it. Those who love it play games that contain it, those who hate it play games that don't have it or where you are capable of manipulating it to a reasonable enough degree. Piglin bartering may ruin speedrunning, but so did bugfixes in other games, which is why speedrunners play on earlier versions of those games. I really don't get why people make so much drama about stuff like that...
Disappointing, but what else could he do? If he takes a side he gets jumped by the other side, and both sides are ravenous now. I suppose he could have just not done the video at all, but Matpat actually makes a great point here: Maybe 1.16 speedruns as a whole need to be thrown out.
Don't get me (or Matpat) wrong, RNG can be really fun, and test the skill and adaptation abilities of the speedrunner. However, not all RNG does that; and a good example of the bad RNG is piglin bartering. No amount of skill or adaptation is going to help you if you're just not lucky. Since the bad RNG is so instrumental in the speedrun, that calls the validity of those speedruns into question. After all, speedruns are supposed to be a display of skill and mastery, not someone getting really lucky.
So things like throwing out all the runs and putting in a "no piglin bartering" rule would be a more accurate reflection of mastery.

Yeah and also what was pretty funny was the exact idea for a tournament he pitched at the end was already happening. They use special datapacks that make all their piglin trades to the same to eliminate rng and then they run the same worlds.

Honestly. Not just disappointing but downright disingenuous for someone who talked ad nauseum about his passion for statistics to not just come to a conclusion but almost entirely brush over the mathematical meat of the subject at all.

actually playing after nether update makes it harder to speedrun because it added bastions so the chances are low to find a fotress compered to previous seedruns

All the Speedrunning Team did was decide that the luck displayed in Dreams Speedruns are over the threshold they find "acceptable", which is why they are labeling that he cheated. But they themselves don't actually know, and we will never know because Dream will, most likely, never say that he cheated and so we're at a stalemate and you either "play the game" and pick a side to believe or you just put the whole thing away and acknowledge that nobody can actually tell and they the status quo is simply "The Team decided he cheated" and that's it.

Wait, I’m in college and have a lot of statistics background. What Mat describes as p-hacking is actually called post-hoc analysis: the practice of coming up with a hypothesis after getting the data. P-hacking is when you run data and tweak the statistics you’re running until the numbers come out the way you want them….

The problem with his last topic is that how many do you consider as variables. The main 2 variables to cheat would be easily pearl and blaze rods drops easily. Because you can find a god seed in 2 or 3 streams but you cant ensure the good rng of pearls and blaze rods. So, if iron golem drops 3 iron, not 5 that can be solve by only wasting like 10 sec. But if you dont get pearls and blaze rods early, this can take you 5+ mins easily.
He pretty much said validating speed runs on tamed rng numbers (which do get out of hand since it's rng) will always result in controversy
