@@BrotherTheory You sure about that? I haven't even watched Shad's video yet and I already have major issues with a bunch of what he' said. The very first point he asserts is that you can't be offensive with more than one weapon at a time when dual wielding which is just factually wrong.

Yes, they began as cultists but were killed mostly by Alexios/Kassandra but him/her stopped being told that letting the cultist leader will actually led to the Cultists randomly attacking again and how She saw that in Egypt the Assassins will form, so they hid to egypt where the cult associated with egyptians to the point of the culture becoming Egyptian and renamed themselfs as Order of the Ancients, and plan to find another artifact there since the one in Greece was destroyed but like sayd, Bayak and his wife start the Assassin order in egypt and rome after themself being hybrids, were able to track the cultists after they revealed themselfs by killing Bayaks son, then the order spread, i didnt play or spoil Valhala yet so il say the Ancients spread and during the HOLY times, renamed themselfs Templars
@President GlowSquid The order of the ancients existed even before Alexios and Kassandra were even born, and the order of ancients had ties with the cult of kosmos so they weren’t the same thing. Also the order of ancients was created in Egypt it didn’t go there after Alexios and Kassandra’s time. Finally the order was created to worship the isu as gods and when King Aelfred of England was made head of the order of ancients he actively tried to have it destroyed so he could make a Christian order. His idea of a Christian order eventually became the Templar knights, so the order of ancients didn’t rename themselves it was completely torn apart and replaced.

@@foolslayer9416 From the entertaining perspective MatPat can make theories of everything he wants. However, when the theory touch some historical facts, MatPat should request advice with creators more versed than him. Otherwise the theory falls down. MatPat is not humble enough for that.
All investigations need a conceptual framework that supports the theory. Without that the result is just nonsensical conjecture.

being wrong about something doesn't mean you can never talk about a similar subject. He made some historically inaccurate claims in both videos, but he was correct about some things as well. I think he should keep making attempts. That's the only way to get better.

I also have no clue what that kid-watching-a-samurai-movie analogy is about; that either went completely over my head or didn't make any sense. MatPat makes a lot of scientifically based content, and with those, he is incredibly accurate. He dropped the ball in the For Honor video for sure, but the For Honor video was historically based and it doesn't mean he shouldn't ever make historically based content again. I also have no clue what you mean when you say he straight up forgot about everything in that vid. . . he was wrong. . . are you saying that he should remember that he was wrong about stuff and not make videos about history?

Yeah. I didn't like it. It wasn't fair. The knight could have won since he should have a shield. The viking was fair. The samurai was overestimated.

I’ve been playing the game for about 3 weeks and I’ve pretty much only used duel wielding axes and it works really well. The shield doesn’t do a lot because of the dodging mechanisms

The problem isn't that he doesn't do research, it's that he's sometimes extremely lazy with his research (more and more lately, it seems) and he completely ignores any evidence that goes against his crackpot theories in the process.
Fun fact: back in ancient Rome, an arrow with a crescent arrowhead was used for entertainment to cut ostrich heads off
Crescent arrows were used during the same time as the Valhalla game and throughout history and all across the world. Modern day hunters use them for turkey hunting. But there is a lot of questions on how they were used because they're also found on Indian anti-elephant arrows.
I like this entertainment.

Matt, based on last time you did a video on this subject I was gathering wood for the burning, but you surprised me this time. You made some valid points and actually referenced some historical sources. You still had some bizarre takes but that's too be expected for someone who doesn't study this stuff. Overall keep it up, you've made some substantial improvements.

When I was a kid I nearly always played "Vikings" with foam weapons and shields with my friends outside. I remember that I would always go for the dual -wield shield "strategy", mostly because I thought it was cool and because I had knives at the top and bottom of the shields in my imagination..

Gauntlet Shields are the answer you get a small shield and you can still hold something although you'd lose dexterity so no precision weapons.

That IS a Knight Hospitaller. I study the crusades and the fact that Mat got that wrong is offensive. The armors don’t even look alike.

You guys check out the video Shadiversity did in response to this, pointing out all the other, rather egregious historical errors. He makes really good content about midieval facts and misconceptions.
Like in most AC games you have a sword and dagger set, plus hidden blades.
Which is DEFINETLY an advantage.
If you manage to get a left hook in, might as well make it count.
Plus if you need to off hand block, best not done with your wrist.
Also your off hand blade could have notches and curves to catch your opponents blade.
While this works best with a smaller secondary it also applies to short swords and hatchets/axes, but historically most people would go for an off hand shield (edit: if shields were in fashion that is)

Well he did significantly better this time. Good? Not really, but better for certain. While his for honor was definitely worthy of mockery, I feel like mocking him for this one is like booing someone off the stage at karaoke night. Did they perform well? Most certainly not. Was it at least a bit entertaining? Sorta but not really. Was he trying his best? Besides the William the conqueror thing, yeah he was. Was he in his element or claimed to be a specialist at this? No. Big no.

Philipino Kali Stick Fighting is largely compromised of dual wielding 2 sticks in order to have constant attacks to different levels. The Heaven/Earth Six is the attacking of all levels of the body with use 2 weapons. You also go into 5-10 count striking with any 2 handled weapons. So dual wielding is VERY practical if you know what you're doing.

Imagine setting it in any part of the Mongol Empire, whether its the Golden Horde on the Russian front, the Ilkhanate with the Islamic world or even Mongol China proper on the conflicts between the Yuan and the remaining Song (though that might be a bit touchy, it could either make China angry or become a propaganda piece for China...) .
With how massive the empire was, one could set several games in that area.

@@electro3438 i don't think they would disagree with him on much, honestly. shields can be weaponized, but they're not very effective weapons compared to swords. axes are not good defensive weapons. i think matpat might have watched a few shad videos.

technically it is useful to have two weapons so then won't lose time it might be slow if your only right or left handed but maybe he is left and right handed to make it fast.
