1. Why not build full-scale?
It would cost more than buying a real one -- remember, mass production is the only reason cars cost less than 100k. If I had to guess, I'd say the real prototype Cybertrucks Elon revealed probably cost 500k-1M each.
2. Where are the _____?
It's not done yet. There will be windows, a tow hitch, lights, bumpers, wheel fenders, the interior, an iPad dash and more.
3. Are you sure it's halfscale?
We divided the dimensions of the real thing by half. It's half the width, half the length, half the height -- but that also means it's only 1/8th the volume. To me, that's half scale. To model toy companies, maybe not. I dunno.
4. Hurry up and finish it!

I fully understand the amount of hours these guys put in making this thing. First Robotics is very close, high schoolers design, fabricate parts, and build robots, then have to wire and program them in roughly a month and a half. It’s intense work all packed into a short time.
You should make it road legal
As long as it does under 45 kilometres per hour I'm pretty sure you're good with turn signals and brake lights you can take it in public but not on the road

Depending on what state that can manage to register it in. It can absolutely become road legal. Ive seen my state register a minibike after lights mirrors and a vin was added. Custom vehicles are absolutely a thing. And the minimum size is smaller than you think.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes. I always daydreamed at a child having a half sized scale car to drive around. Not a gocart, but a car with windows trunk etc. Imagine driving your mini Rx7 to your friends house with some games and mountain dew in the back. Freaking epic. There is a void between gocarts and pedal cars, SEND IT!
It would be a bit expensive though. Like I would think about the price of a John Deere Gator or maybe a Polaris UTV.

You guys TIG weld surprisingly well for first-time TIG welders. Probably an over-exaggeration with the whole "50-100 linear feet = 50-100 hours of weld-time", though, right?

Project looks great! One of the things I love is the wide variety of things you guys put together. Sometimes it's a simple one day thing, sometimes it's something time consuming and massive like this. And it always seems like you all have a pretty good time while putting it all together, which makes it fun to watch.

So I’ve not seen all comments or vids in the season yet but loving it so far and I’m a new sub but just wondering if the scale is 1:2 then should you source a driver 50% the size?? Apart form that loving the content so far and think I’ve just found my new favourite channel and only took 3vids to reach this conclusion. It’s a great showcase of skills lads 👍🏻

In the end it costs more than an actual cyber truck
@J G I would say the biggest expense will be all of the man hours put in to build this.
The steal is only a few thousand (10 k maybe) and the motor systems would be another 5k with the battery packs, then the glass and lights maybe another 2k and the drive train 1k lightly used.
So material around 18k and the rest in labor, of course this is all just speculation, but it sure would make a nice little vehicle for tooling around in even without all of the extra ammenitys.
I still think 3/5s scale would have fit the existing drivetrain better with the wheels tucked in under the fenders.
