Bleed is my absolute fav Meshuggah track ever. Excellent video and the accents on the wall? Brilliant. I have been studying Bleed for a long, long time and this has helped meundrestand the accents more clearly than any other video. Peace.

Ice Gray wow I've been trying to figure out that second phrase for so long and I never realized how simple it was, it's easy to overthink stuff like this. Thanks!
I hope you read this comment. I'm 69 years old. An old metal fan. But I also have taught myself the CLASSiCAl repertoire. .I have thought that BLEED was exceptional, beyond that. It has kept my attention for years. I would never have thought to listen to bongos, but OMG you have improved it for me . I love this version . thanks
holy shit!! I always thought Bleed was one of the most "hard to play" songs of meshuggah...and now I think it is one of the hardest songs to play...period!
Okay, I'll be honest, I saw this in the suggested videos and thought "haha, this will be funny lololol", but having watched it... Goddamn, this was actually really awesome. And interesting to see it being broken up into different patterns. Good job, sir. Bloody good job. :)
Awesome. Now lets merge the bongo track with the Sitar track and go mtv unplug (just joking, great work on this cover. Bleed is bleed. Best track ever from Meshuggah and this cover is serious stuff)
This is insane to listen to. It's like your Bongo is showing us the actual tempo-scaling of the rhythm section. I've listened to this song so many times, but this just reminds me of how crazy it really is percussionally. All hail the Bongo!
Your bongo tabs allowed me to see what Tomas Haake conveyed through this song and just how technical this masterpiece is. I appreciate your talent, friend!
I've always felt that Meshuggah was better appreciated if you thought of the guitars as percussion instruments. It's still monotonous, but I do appreciate it.
Don't know how I just stumbled across this now. Been listening to Meshuggah for like 15 years, your notation with the accents is extremely helpful. DRUM ON!
Thumbs up and much respect dude, I play drums and percussion as well and for the ones that never tried to keep this "herta" feel steady and clean for that long I can assure you it is even harder than it looks.
what pisses me off is i can do the really long one with no error (x-x-xxx-x-x-x,xxx-x-xxx-x-x.....and so on), but my brain hasnt clicked with the xxx-x-x-x one yet. logic/10
My brain is struggling with the XXX-*X*, but i've got the hang of most of the song, but the accent on the 4th note is just impossible for me to get. On the 1st note ? Yeah, but 4th ? Heck no.
That xxx-x-x-x pattern can also be heard in Tool's Lateralus during the bridge on the hi-hats. That is a great reference for learning this particular rhythm!
I've wanted to get more into music, I own some instruments (two guitars, and a set of bongos). But never really had the motivation to get good at any of it. It's videos like these that are a good kick in the pants to get myself together.
This...was...actually real awesomeness :) Excuses the weird hair cut; 10/10 for that cat interlude! The bongos actually fit soundwise, supporting the attack of the guitars and bass. Good job!
Sweet this helped for when I need to do air guitar to this track, I can finally play along with that fucked polyrythmn timing after the bridge thanks to the rythmn score u have goin on, it was awesome!!
been trying to play this song on my drums for 5 years already, I can do all the bass drum work just playing the cymbals with my right hand, if I add my left hand it don't last long until I get out of tempo, but I almost got it!
+medved Actually, if you wanna get nerdy. Meshuggah hardly ever plays polyrhythms ( Not even Haake)... I hear people say it all the time and it's actually not true. Meshuggah mostly plays something called ' poly-metrics'. It's different time signatures layered on top of each other. 7/8 over 4/4, 5/16 over 4/4 etc... Polyrhythms would be if they played quintuples over 16thnotes, or triplets over septuplets. But almost all the patterns Meshuggah play are derived from straight 8th, 16th or 32nd notes. I've actually only ever heard Meshuggah play one polyrhythm. It happens in Future Breed Machine before the coda starts. It's quarter-note triplets over straight 8th notes... There you go... Now you can go be a real nerd, even to the super-nerdy Meshuggah-fans. =)
+mjollner23 they actually don't even really do that many polymeters. they do mostly synchronization to 4/4. Closed Eye Visuals for example is 4/4 broken down into three bars of 5/4 and then a bar of 1/1 to make it the same as four bars of 4/4. Really they just mostly play 4/4 with a few weird bars thrown into a long cycle
TheMeatballMen Polymeters doesn't mean that both meters has to stay constant. There just needs to be two different meters happening at the same time, which Meshuggah has most of the time. But I get what you mean... Meshuggah usually lets the 4/4 dictate where the polymetric cycle restarts. The second pattern is always subordinate, and they will always cut it so that it loops with the 4/4. I think they mostly do this to keep some kind of song-structure. I imagine things would get very long if they had to wait for all patterns to loop.
The pattern at 2:34 is actually Xxx-x-x-x-x-x Xxx-x-x-x-x-x Xxx-x-x-x Xxx-x-Xxx-x-x-x Technically you have it notated right, you’d just have to start on the last line.
