  • This video demonstrates how to install car interior led lights hardwired into any car which I've done on my current project a Volkswagen Polo the car interior LED strip lights I used in this video I bought on Ebay for a sweet price and the quality of the finished product really impressed me. The aim of this video was not only to show how easily you can improve the look of your car but to also show how you can wire upgrades such as these LED strip lights into your car fuse box correctly using a fuse adapter safely I hope this video is helpful to any of you who might be thinking of an improvement project.

    Can you put the same gauge(?) or amp fuse in the fuse tapper? Like if I'm plugging into a 7.5 amp can I take the original 7.5 and a new 7.5 and plug both into the tap?

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  6 개월 전 +2

      Whatever fuse you calculate is needed to run your lights that fuse needs to be smaller than the original fuse in the circuit your tapping into I touched on why in the video 7.5amps is far too large for small lights like this they should be a similar size to the fuse I used in mine typically for small lights like that thanks for the kind words 😊

    So Im wanting to add footwell under glow leds and door panel trim leds to my truck. I already installed a starlight headliner, I connected 2 different projectors and ran them to one of my fuses with the wire tap (I used speaker wire to lengthen the wires, don't know if that's a no no) it's been running for almost a year now with no issues. Im wanting to do the same thing with the footwell leds and door trim leds, I want to connect them together and run them to one fuse. Do I have to worry about overloading my fuses with this type of install and should I swap the speaker wire to something else? I don't know a lot about electrical but so far the stuff I have done has not blown up in my face but I don't want to end up making a mistake

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  2 년 전

      Personally I wouldn't do it because there's a risk of it playing up at some point because both items are pulling on the same load but in theory as long as the fuse your plugging into is enough for both accessories it should be fine, the headliner sounds like such a good shout I bet it looks so good

      Hey Fluxy98 I had the same issue when I first started trying to install mine especially whilst the panel was attached to the car door I believe the gap that's there is tiny and completely seals up when the door card is on
      I discovered it by accident when my door card was off if you push on the top of the door card a little it exposes the area after that you don't need to push on it just slide the fibre in.

    For people worrying about the fuse inside the "lighter" switch you cut off, don't.
    You'll be attaching it to a fuse regardless. So if a short happens it'll just fry that fuse anyway.

      Hi David I'd not seen anyone commenting on the fuses in the comments must have missed it but yeah agreed if your keeping the original lighter wire switch you don't need to worry about adding a fuse as that already has one inside

      Hi there Amir, its much easier to see what fuse ports are always live if you've a multimeter
      If you don't have that you'll just have to try each one until you find one that doesn't stay on after your ignition goes off
      When I did it in the video it only took me a second because I've a multimeter you can pick up a cheap one for between 6-10 quid online or in Halfords hope that helps mate

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  11 개월 전

      To be perfectly honest I wouldn't know I wouldn't be able to find the problem without diagnosing it myself in person. There could literally be multiple things that could be causing that if I was fault finding this I'd start with the obvious things like is the battery working at the correct voltage, then I'd check why I'm getting 14.4 volts which much higher than the 12 volts I'm looking for at the fusebox possible issue there what's causing it?, next after that I'd check my wiring on the ambient lights but that wiring is simple so I can't imagine that would be the issue but always worth double checking. The ambient lights your using are designed for 12 volts like most accessories in a car and your fusebox is putting out too much voltage that will cause those lights to play up as their not designed to be working at that voltage your issue is probably not uncommon for your car have a look online someone may have experienced it already and put the solution online good luck

    So if I’m putting this in the back of my car, that’s where the fuse box is, where do I put the crimp terminal part? Does it need to be on the fuse box or on any metal bolt?

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  9 개월 전 +1

      I'm not sure what you mean by crimp terminal? Do you mean where do you put the earth? The process for connecting to your fusebox will be exactly the same as shown in this video the location of the fusebox doesn't change the process once you've plugged in the power supply into the fusebox the earth can be connected to any bolt that's connected to the cars body which is grounded or any other earth wire have a look online to find where your earths on your car are if your not sure how to spot them hope that helps ☺️

    • @THECUBER108
      @THECUBER108 9 개월 전

      Yeah the terminal part that’s the ground. My fuse box is in my boot and there isn’t really any bolts to connect it to except some painted screw ends, I’m guessing I’d need to sand off the paint and add a nut to them for the ground to work correctly?

    • @The_journeyy
      @The_journeyy  9 개월 전 +1

      Hey Alex, mine still work perfectly. That does sound rather odd to be fair unless you just got unfortunate and got a faulty set. @@The_journeyy I actually tapped into the power wire from the light switch so that when my lights are on my interior lighting is on as well. I just got a new set in. Higher end Govee RGBIC lights ($40ish CAD) and I’m going to try to keep the cigarette adapter attached cause it’s got a few resistors and such in it so maybe having to pass through that before it gets to the lights will protect my lights a little better. There’s also a fuse built into the cigarette adapter so that is probably a little safer.

      Hi Carlos thanks for reaching out, what car do you've? Its hard for me to answer your question without seeing your setup but judging by what you've said your wiring is not done like mine
      I didn't want wire up to an interior light which from what you've said is what you've done? I wired up mine using a fuse adapter to a spare fuse slot on the car that comes on and off with the ignition being turned on
      With the way yours is wired because they're always on they can drain your battery If your trying to wire up to the interior light of your car you'll need to use another method.

      The radio circuit in cars typically stays on in most car manufactures I've not seen one that differs from that yet you chose a circuit that is always on so the lights will stay on easy solution is look for another circuit that comes on and goes off when the ignition is activated the answer to how you can do that is at 3:10 on this video without a multimeter it will have to be a plug and try until you find one
