Commenting on the prize, Stewart said, “I am truly honored to receive this award. I have long admired and been influenced by the work of Mark Twain, or, as he was known by his given name, Samuel Leibowitz.”

The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor recognizes individuals who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th-century novelist and essayist Samuel Clemens, best known as Mark Twain. As a social commentator, satirist, and creator of characters, Clemens was a fearless observer of society, who startled many while delighting and informing many more with his uncompromising perspective on social injustice and personal folly.
As a recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Stewart received a copy of an 1884 bronze portrait bust of Mark Twain sculpted by Karl Gerhardt (1853-1940). Previous recipients can be seen by scrolling down this page.

The 23rd Mark Twain Prize for American Humor is under the direction of the creative team from Done + Dusted, the Kennedy Center’s producing partner for the Mark Twain Prize since 2018. This year’s ceremony marks the 23rd year that the Kennedy Center’s marquee comedy award will be broadcast nationally.
The event was created by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Bob Kaminsky, Peter Kaminsky, Mark Krantz, and John Schreiber. The Kennedy Center is grateful to Cappy McGarr for his steadfast support of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor since its inception in 1998.

Jon took on EVERY news channel-probably criticizing CNN almost as much as Fox. KUDOS, Jon for trying to keep them all honest.
I dunno.. I as I remember the show was pretty much focused on Fox News. CNN wasn't really criticized for its "fake news" until Trump and at that point John had left the show.

When i was about 18-19, I seriously farted into a glass jar and put the lid on immediately after. Me and one or two other friends pretended like the jar just still smelled like the food that was in it previously. So the person not in on it was asked if they thought it still smelled like food...he opened it and it definitely was my contained fart unleashed in his face. Somehow I'm proud and not proud. I forgot about this until Kimmels story 🤣
Adam Carolla recounted in one of his books that he did something quite similar to I think Kimmel. Carolla's innovation was to fart into an empty coffee can because of how deeply and enthusiastically people smell coffee. Jimmy was always on the lookout for pranks, but "smell this coffee" was so natural, that he fell for it immediately, filling his lungs with the vile flatus...

Jimmy Kimmel is the only one giving a speech at this event who didn't personally address John Stewart at least for a few seconds and share how much he loves and respects him. Even though he's known John for longer than many of the others, he swushes the whole topic away with "You were never my boss, so I have nothing to say about how great you are as a human being or not", and then tells a mediocre story about himself, garnered with a lot of envy about not getting the award himself.
