  • Food aggression in dogs can be solved pretty quickly when done right. It just takes some structure. You don’t need force or useless techniques like throwing treats all over your floor.

    These traits are seen in dogs from puppy mills where they have no human interactions when being fed. Thats why they feel protective about their food. The key is to let the dog know that you are the provider and not the taker. Feeding the dog slowly in small quantities while keeping the eye contact will help. This way the dog will trust you around food. Why people keep touching their dogs while they are eating? How would you react when people just keep rubbing your back and head while you are eating your meals?

    You have to show the dog who the alpha is of the pack. If the dog growls at you it’s because he doesn’t respect you as a leader. You have to punish his bad behavior by either taking away the food when he growls or challenging him like another dog would in a pack mentality. You have to show him that behavior will not be tolerated.

    I had fostered a 11 wk old puppy and was SHOCKED when I put a food bowl down and the little guy growled and snapped so hard when I tried to pick the bowl up. Know what I did? Smacked him in the head, screamed NO, and took away his food. I put the bowl down a minute or two later and he didn’t even approach it without me giving him permission. I don’t care what anyone says. I believe in negative reinforcement/even physical force. That’s what dogs do in the wild. He NEVER did that again with me or the next owner. And he was still a lovely, playful, clingy dog. This is why it’s essential to teach them as puppies they don’t get to bite you over toys and food. It’s muchhhh harder to train out when they are older.
    Hand feed and touch the food in the bowl. As a puppy they eat with their siblings so they will be more accepting or curious of sharing food rather than snapping at you.
    Also teach them the sit and stay commands so they have to wait a second for food. They don’t eat until you give them the go ahead.
    And the drop it command when the have a toy. Also touching it and playing with them.
    Obviously only do this for little puppies. If the dog is 2 years old and you just got it, don’t touch it’s food because unknown history.
    This training is a MUST if your dog will be around kids. Kids don’t know any better and may play with the dogs food, especially very young children or crawling babies.

    It’s a natural instinct That hasn’t been bread out of a lot of dogs yet. They have to be possessive of food because other dogs wouldve stole it immediately. Those dogs that got their food stolen from them would die off when the possessive ones would survive. That’s why we have to teach them that we are here to provide food and not to take it from them. Negative behaviors earn negitive consequences while good behavior is rewarded

      The problem all 4 of you are having is you’re trying to remove the bowl. Remove the dog instead. Has more of an impact on the dog this way. You can use a leash as a tool. Say leave it and come. If the ignore, give the leash a pop to knock them out of the mindset and remove them from the bowl. After, allow them to go back to the bowl, but only when you say so. Keep doing this until the dog realizes that your goal isn’t to take the food away from it and stops ignoring your commands. Unfortunately some dogs will simply get into that mindset when they’re at the bowl. That’s why it’s important for the dog to understand and follow verbal commands, so you can remove the dog from the dish if you ever need to, like if company comes over.

      What has worked so far for me to take their bowl away and put it back, or have them eat out of my hand or eat while I’m petting them, put my hand in their food bowl with a treat. But the trick is not to wait until they start growling to do these things, I do it from the second I get a puppy because the number 1 thing I won’t tolerate in a dog is food aggression, a dog that does that is basically a dog that is no good to anyone. Some people say that taking a bowl away doesn’t work but it has for me and I’ve owned some pretty stubborn breeds: a chow chow, a German shepherd, 2 huskies and a not so stubborn one a poodle and I have never been bitten or growled at by any of my dogs.

    My dog is 9months old and he does similar to this he doesn't bites the one giving the food but while preparing it's food if the other person comes he growl shows teeth and threatens us to back down I used to be afraid and I back down because I know how hard it can bite if it gets a hold almost take a chunk but he fears me and obeys everything
    So today I wore a boxing gloves(won't affect you hands and you can give uppercuts) and he did th same thing I just stood still and yelled at him the dangerous dog ran to other room in fear

    • @shanetruckdriver
      @shanetruckdriver 10 개월 전

      The problem with reaching for the bowl is that you might get bit in situations like this. You want to train the dog that getting the food is a reward only received after getting your permission. This way the owner becomes more valuable than the food. If you start by immediately going for what they find, most valuable, it’s only natural for them to try and protect. Even if that means biting you. It’s instinct.

    you know wats the best way to deal w that? hopefully its only food agression and when no food is around the mutt is ok and has love trust and respect… if so belly rub the mutt snd scratch then gently scratch the paws showing trust and if its all around aggressive to the humans then they need to euthanize the mutt if not grab small police handcuffs for women and slap em on the front paws then add an extra pair right above the paw cause the mutt struggling it might wiggle out then repeat for the hind paws then use this punishment as a reward for urself and ur family for growing a pair and bbq all week long as u place the mutt right outside by the grill right outside the backyard door and make sure u always give water cause mutts can get their own water its the food that they need to learn that without the human and his family it would starve so it needs to learn to be grateful and humble u cant become domesticated because of being a beta wolf after thousands of years then the moment u channel ur inner wolf its not to hunt snd get ur own food but to attack the person who does feed u anyway then proceed to grill everyday for intervals of at least a week before giving the mutt anything but water make sure u prep ur meat outside in front of it and drop a piece of watever meat ur grilling everyday (watever u drop is gonna be the mutts meal at the end of the week anyway) and make sure ur always nice and act normal w everyone walk up to it and pet it and even tease it by acting like ur gonna give it a chicken leg or a steak then tossing it right before it hits its mouth…. after the meat drop a cooked piece and repeat that step of teasing it everyday its gonna struggle tryna to get out but handcuffs it wont get out dont tighten it until it harms the mutt just tight enough and prep, grill, and eat with ur whole family right outside infront of it all week itll make it better if u have an obedient mutt that will eat w u all in front of the tough mutt let it whine snd wimper snd scream who cares u provided the nourishment id be damned if i pay someone to train my dog to stop that behavior i ignored and allowed no sir ima just show it the consequences and dont just do it for week after 7 days feed it a leg and try to grab it from its mouth as its still pawcuffed snd if its still aggressive snatch that food back and continue the training if its not let it finish the leg and go again for a week knowing ur making progress
