I am sure that even though Colbert makes fun of it, people go on to her website for curiosity and end up buying stuff ,so this is why I think she agreed with this segment anyway.

As "gracious" as it seems that she's her taking part of the joke, the joke is actually at the expense of her clients, not herself. It's like she's saying "lol, yeah, my products are stupid and overpriced, but there will always be dumb enough people to give me money, even if I say it in national TV"

We had a research partnership with a small company in water supply for industrial use. At our first meeting I asked him about the odd web site mentioning of crystals and magnets and other odd stuff on his site for "enhancing" water. He said this makes him more money than the legit part of his business and we should just disregard it. In his defence, I could not find any false claims or anything regarding the products he sells to this day. Apparnetly. people want to fall for this stuff. You can judge them on the morality but Gwyneth apparently does not believe anything other than selling idiots idiot stuff (long tradition of snake oil salesemen in the US btw). I could not do that and sleep well but that is apparently a genetic disadvantage.
I have been looking forward to this! Stephen Colbert is my favourite because he is not scared to face the people he rips into! Class act.
Yeah, this was pretty uncomfortable. He's pretty much telling her how insincere the whole thing is, and her participation is an acknowledgement of that.

For those of you that don't understand why she is making fun of herself, it's a marketing scheme that she, her publicist and lawyers all agreed on. This will inevitably get her more customers because she was "relatable" or whatever you want to call it.
Hammad Ali This is definitely well-thought out PR. Colbert was probably paid a lot for it and thought that so long as he is mocking her and her brand, then he is absolving himself of any blame.
From her point of view, what’s she doing is the equivalent to “it was just a prank bro”. By openly allowing herself to be mocked it invites people to take pity on her and it’s a good way to deflect blame and criticism.
Ultimately she’s still an irresponsible fraud.

I get the impression that gwyneth really does believe at least some of her stuff is beneficial and not a scam (or at least, she figures that it's all mostly harmless and people want to buy things like it, so why not), but is also perfectly aware of how hilarious it all sounds to people who aren't so... whole foods-y.
If it is a scam, it is targeted exclusively at rich idiots who should know better. Noy saying that makes it okay, but I can hardly hate her for that.
This video gives me the vibe that, yeah, there may be a level on which she understands the inherent dishonesty within most of Goop's inventory while feeling at the same time a potential benefit. And the meta feeling that this clip positively exudes is a testament to the thought that maybe she IS specifically targeting gullible rich folks with faux-homeopathic supplements. It's too weird though I've confused myself even more in trying to understand it....
To me it seems like she's not at all in on the joke, but someone told her it would be good PR. She doesn't seem to be having fun with it. Maybe it's just something about her personality, but I get a smug "My brand isn't for YOU people anyway" vibe from the video.

She is admitting that her persona and brand are the same thing, while asserting a validity of commerce pursued through brand management.
Also there's currently an accepted paradigm in PR that skill in responding to negative press is a also a valid practice (and endeavour). Let's call it "spin". In this case it's brand management by being a good sport about the past lampooning by The Late Show.
Yes, there is a tacit admission there. She's in effect saying that so long as people are willing to throw $900 down the toilet in a form which won't block up the pipes (because one of GOOPs products is $900 toilet paper, which I hope is per carton rather than per roll, but might not be) if they want to do that, they can.
The internet is full of instances in which the optics (and I say this advisedly, not the underlying conduct) of something a company has said or done has been faulted, and their response has made things worse. Somehow that has become the sin now.
People get more bent out of shape of a Nestle executive coming off sounding high-handed while speaking about the purchase of water rights and whatever the company intends to do with them than the fact fact that a company has aggressively been acquiring exclusive rights to water sources, for some reason.
I think that there has been a surrender to the power of corporations, so that it is accepted that they will act in their own interest in whatever way they choose now. The battlefield has shifted to insignificant stuff which amounts to people critiquing the corporations on style. Sucks to be us.
I'm going to quote the comment which was immediately below this at the time I wrote:-

I think Tyler isn't actually unhappy for aesthetic reasons, though on the surface he's grading it as comedy, performance in other words. I think he at least unconsciously aware that this is just the way it is going to be from now on. That there's an underlying and unsatisfactory reality which is revealed here.
These times are worse than the 1950's when people paved their driveways with compacted asbestos fibre and attempted to enhance their appearance with face creams and lipsticks which contained radium (that was a deliberately added ingredient in 1955 and 1956). A lot of those people should have known better maybe, but they didn't, so they had some kind of excuse. We do know, so we don't have that excuse.
