That she couldn't make it through the routine because she was so exhausted? That her coach had her do the routine OVER and OVER and OVER again in the warm up gym until her brain was so exhausted it shut off? Can you imagine how dangerous it is to be out there doing a beam routine with your brain shut off? And her coach was one of the "good guys." @@DTB1995 “times got tough”...she literally had a twisty in the air. Are you thick in the head? A twisty is when a gymnast’s mind and body are not in synch and they get lost and/or confused in the air. This has led to past gymnasts with recurring injuries, like Simone’s ankle injuries, breaking bones and in rare cases ending up paralyzed. It usually occurs due to extreme mental/physical exhaustion and is one of the most dangerous things a gymnast can go through. If you knew anything about gymnastics, you’d know she did the right thing and got extremely lucky she didn’t break her legs or neck on that vault she did. People are praising her for knowing her limits and pulling out before harming herself and the team by extension. She was consistently making mistakes for the last week and yesterday she had a very bad moment. She got lost in the air on what is usually her easiest vault routine and she under rotated one full twist. If she had stayed she would have probably continued to make mistakes and jeopardize the chances of team USA making on the podium. This is the opposite of selfish.
Do you have any idea what can happen when you are performing the hardest acrobatics EVER done by a female in the wrong headspace. You can literally get paralyzed if you make one small mistake and land wrong. This isn’t soccer or basketball where you having a bad mental day may cause you to trip or not make as many baskets. She can possibly injure herself for a lifetime.

Sure, everybody wants top "Gold," but in each contest only one team or one person can win it. I love their attitude & support of each other. They are ALL winners in my book. Congratulations to them ALL!!🎉🎊🏆💐💥

Phelps is simply doing his duty and going along with the script provided to him by his handlers. Wow, this is signs similar to what my daughter had after concerts. She would do great at a concert and then have a mental meltdown after almost every concert. I think it was a sign of lack of "support" either within the band community/and or team or with someone in the family where the child is looking for support; but doesn't receive it. Over much time, she started to tell me stories of what happened within the "band community" and it started to unravel. How it's all support for the "show"; but not so much when your in class.

While my heart breaks for Biles, but I'm happy for her she is surrounded by love. duni is so wise beyond her years "we didn't judt get silver we WON SILVER". In this generation placing second is worse that placing dead last. I've bern told 2nd is the 1st loser snd no one wins the silver they lose the gold. It sucks the competitive culture I was raised in. I commend them all on how mature snd supportive they all are. 1 day Simone was being thrre for Mykayla Skinner when she sadly didn't wualify for event finals and 24 hours later she's there for Simone when she wthdrew herself. After Sochi they better have 2 labs test Russia no matter how clean thrir gymnastics programs will do anything to win, especially with the coach saying (paraphrased ) if we csn get rid of Bilrs the US can't beat us

I love Simone. But I’ve always thought, can you imagine working your whole life for the accomplishment of making the Olympic team, only for the media to place all of the responsibility and expectations of winning gold on one team member? Every single one of these women is a powerhouse in her own right; this has got to be arguably one of the strongest Olympic women’s gymnastics teams I’ve seen since 1996. Put some respect on their names. Oh, and when one member decides she needs to tap out for her own safety AND to ensure she doesn’t cost the team a medal, don’t treat her like all of her accomplishments are now null and void because of that one decision.

Stars come and go, each has their point of no return, that day when they quit. Just because she was young and small doesn't mean she would do it forever. Cut her some slack, the number of years in competition or number of competitions are not a real measure. The mind and body can only take so much, and when a person at the peak of physical ability competes it would seem that the candle burns at both ends. When they say they are done, it not only is an important day for that person, but an important day for all the rest of the competition, one person quits another stands up for the challenge. Cut her some slack and let her bathe in her successes, that's what we enjoyed about her time in the limelight.
