fun fact: for the first few seasons, only the leads (michael, dwight, pam, jim, and ryan) got actual functioning computers with internet, everyone else’s only had one function. solitaire. so although we only see meredith’s in action, all of them would just quietly play solitaire while pretending to be working. idk why but i find that hilarious

Ryan thinks very highly of himself and probably saw Jim as someone almost on the same level as himself. And once Jim proves he's more than capable of besting Ryan, Ryan takes a dislike of him.
I think the peak of Ryan's hate for Jim happened after Jim criticised Ryan's website while talking to David Wallace at Christmas party. He got Jim reported to Toby and when he fell from power he resented Jim

Fun fact: the scene where Jim popped dwights ball wasn’t planned. John krasinski just thought it would be funny to pop the ball. (You can see how shocked and unprepared rainn was when he fell lmao)
It took 12 takes to get that shot. The ball kept slowly deflating instead of popping.
Jim Hayes technically both of you are wrong bc jenna fischer (pam) said on a podcast that the plan genuinely was for the ball to deflate and for dwight to slowly sink to the floor, and they did the shot 13 times with it going perfectly but on the last take it just completely popped which is why he looks shocked and in the full scene you can see john in trying hard not to break character as he leaves
