The greatest comeback from Dwight to all of Jim's pranks was not falling for the biggest and most expensive and elaborated of them, by just being happy about his life.
The biggest way to beat a hater is to be happier than them.
Dwight didn’t know this was a prank. And he was unhappy for a lot of the show. He always wanted more for his life. And he finally got what he wanted and put aside his grudges and resentment of Jim. He chose to live his life and be happy. Dwight doesn’t know he foiled Jim’s prank and likely thought this was his test to see if he could choose to actually accept the happiness he feels

Love that the full theme of the office is there’s a cameraman following them around. That means Dwight just deadass let the cameraman follow him to this secret meeting and record the whole thing. Nice.

Not sure if it’s the worst thing that they filmed, the documentary crew filmed a lot of unrelated stuff and people that they shouldn’t have.

The moment "we will make ourselves known" disappeared from the screen would have been the perfect place to end the cold open and the rest of the episode there would be little hints that Dwight suspects hes seeing "them" make themselves known but trying not to let anyone know what he thinks is going on, not making the prank the focus of the episode but letting it live in the background as a B-plot...taking the prank THAT far is a great example of what went wrong in the later seasons

That this never aired at least shows some awareness that it didn’t quite land as a full piece. You’re right that it could have been an excellent B plot and the reveal of how elaborate the prank was only to fail would really payoff after the audience has spent time with it developing throughout the episode.

this kinda writing is why i still watch the office past season 7. the good writing is all still there, its just missing a key character to bring out the best of its qualities. of course seasons 8 and 9 arent nearly as good as the rest, but they arent “unwatchable” as many people like to say

That portion was a little over the top and hammy, even for Dwight.
It's because that is how the actual scene went in The Matrix. Neo flees through a bunch of cubicles.

Early season Dwight would have kicked out the window in his office and jumped out.
Fun fact is that in the original Matrix they stated the reason they don't wake older people is because they always end up wanna go back or choose not to wake up at all. So in a sense Dwight made the right choice.

My favorite part is that Dwight and the “agents” at reception both look directly at eachother, but he still drops to his knees and tries to stealthily crawl away.

In case no one know this cold open was meant to be for the first part of the finale of the series, they recorded the last table read of the last episode and this was the cold open but for some reason they changed it to the 1 year later cold open
Jim's pranks evolved so much with time he can easily make a feature length movie at this point.

Hi guys, i dunno why i never seen this amazing show before, started 3 weeks ago and today i just finish to watch it, the last chapter makes me cry for a special reason, im near to retirement in my job after 28 years of service (one of my life goals), and when Andy says "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days, before you've actually left them" was a shocking moment to me to realize how many good memories i had from my colleagues , from celebrate new babies, to even face death together in México City earthquakes. This show pictures perfectly the bonds we make between coworkers and how much they can go outside "the job". Thanks for all. Salutes from México.

Hank’s greatest screen time episode. He was probably sad this never aired.
I knew he'd choose blue!! And that'd be the upset. Dwight is one of those characters that just loves the small things and can see beauty throughout routine, and doing similar things everyday. Like the story of the lad who pushed the stone up the hill everyday. I feel like Jim should've seen that choice coming.

@@marlinlenchanteur4260 But it would have solidified his character arc. Dwight from Season 1 would've never chosen to stay in the Matrix over fighting the machine army. But since he's grown and realized how happy he can be, that happiness outweighs his desire for action and his hatred for machines.
It is way too over the top, some of the pranks Dwight falls for are unbelievable but just about pass, but this is too obvious that it would seem silly.
It is funny to watch as a standalone clip, but putting it in the show would have been a mistake.

@@Kuraakka It was kinda out of character and a bit long. But idk. Season 9 was already a little all over the place, so maybe it would have worked.
@@ASeed17 in a way I’m glad they cut it out actually, it was kinda weird. I mean, did anybody else notice that Jim and Pam were not acting like Jim and Pam? Jenna and John are amazing actors, but that was not it. they were really out of character, especially when the were watching on the cameras😬
The acting was off and the sketch required too much time to get the point across.

Yeah, the acting is not very good and and the editing is not snappy, it lacks energy. It's like hearing a story that drags on and is not well told. Good idea but bad execution, basically. It's nice to see an entire new footage, though.
