      @@THGMR-ox7sd I want to preface this saying that Davide Carrer most likely knows more about competitive pokemon than I do, but I am not sure why they decided to keep bringing the Venusaur Torkoal lead even when Incineroar on Wolfe's team was putting in major work. That doesn't even mention the fact that Weezing doesn't really synergize well with the Torkoal or the Venusaur itself in this matchup as you want that chlorophyll to go off and you need either the sun or the chlorophyll ability itself to use that combo. Felt really weird to me but hey they are the one who makes it to finals and I am not so I am sure they had their reasonings

      He did a really nice play at 14:56-15:18 ish where his Dragapult was yawned, where the human play would've been to switch out (which he did) and Taunt the Torkoal (which you can see him consider as he did select Taunt first) to pretty much render him useless into Coal/Incineroar; but he predicts Davide would taunt his Incineroar with Weezing to prevent HIS own taunt into Torkoal so he could essentially get a free Yawn into Coalossal potentially, so Wolfe just went aggro and demolished with Incineroar with sun up. I guess what I'm trying to say is he did predict and analyze, just very quick/accurately, while at the same time thinking exactly what you said; Strong move op lmao

      A lot of showdown people like to hate on the main game meta if it doesn't incorporate stuff they want. But it has a lot of great things as well if you just give it a chance and also makes it different in the same time. For me, that's what makes the VGC entertaining.

      It's an inside joke from Wolfe's community. The joke is that he has plot armor because often when it looks like he's done he wins. And it's not always his amazing skill, sometimes it's mind boggling luck that even he laughs at. As someone who watches his videos regularly can confirm he is an anime protagonist.

  • @AV6Q
    @AV6Q 2 년 전 +23

    Ok, so I just finished the video, and I'm starting to understand that I am a casual player and that much of this is going to fly over my head, but there are a few things that confused me; 1. Wolfe's Dragapult's moveset seems odd, I'd love to hear the strategy behind it, because it's not something I would've brought along just as a normal player, and 2. Davide's repeated use of yawn and protect seemed like stalling rather than doing anything truly meaningful, and because the perspective of the match was from Wolfe's, it almost felt like watching Wolfe battle an AI. The decisions that Davide made confused me, and I don't see how those decisions were meant to give him a path to victory.

      I realize it's been 4 weeks since you posted this comment, so you might have gotten an answer from your own research. But in case you haven't and were still wondering:
      He runs Breaking Swipe for multi-target damage as well as a way to debuff the targets' Attack by 1 stage. Will-o-Wisp is for burning physical attackers, like Regigigas and Urshifu who are both popular in this meta. The Burn status halves the Attack stat, which is why Regigias was doing such little damage after being burned. Light Screen is for reducing damage from Special Attacks, which are pretty popular compared to physical attackers in the Players Cup II meta. Both Moltres and Coalossal are Special Attackers, as well as Davide's Weezing, Torkoal, and Venusaur. And Surf is for setting up his Coalossal. It deals super effective damage, which activates Weakness Policy, raising Coalossal's Attack and Special Attack by 2 stages, and because it's a water-type move, it activates its Steam Engine ability, giving it +6 stages to Speed, making it faster than other Pokémon on the field, and allow it to attack first.
      Davide's use of Yawn was fine, since landing a Yawn on a Pokémon who just Dynamaxed means they'll be asleep on the 3rd turn of it. But his biggest mistake was bringing Venusaur into every game. Its best matchups were against Coalossal and Urshifu, which it hardly ever saw, and had a losing match up against every other of Wolfe's Pokémon. He needed to bring his own Urshifu to deal with Coalossal and Incineroar. No Venusaur also means no reason to bring Torkoal, since we saw how it was really only good for Yawning and setting up sun, but that also worked in Wolfe's favor. Regieleki would have been his other Pokémon and can outspeed most things and get Reflect or Light Screen up, which would have really helped negate a lot of the damage Wolfe was dishing out.
      Last thing to note is Wolfe provided commentary on most of his battles for the Players Cup II over on his youtube channel. So if you want to better understand the moves he makes and the reasons why he made those moves, then you can watch those as well. He sadly didn't commentate the finals, but these battles were pretty straight-forward I'd say.

    • @eravar2831
      @eravar2831 년 전 +3

      I’m a few months late, but Dragapult is run as support against physical attackers, burn halves attack (physical) so will o wisp is good to have as a defensive option, breaking swipe lowers attack for both enemies, light screen covers special attackers by halving their damage, and surf is to enable Coalossal.
      They tend to be run as a pair because surf hits your own Coalossal, procing weakness policy and steam engine simultaneously, giving him the stats to immediately dynamax and ohko somebody with GMax Volcalith.
      The protects and yawns were fine, even if the strategy looked spotty in hindsight. Yawn is the typical answer to Dynamax, because Sleep is absolutely crippling in doubles (and in general), forcing your opponent to either switch out and end dynamax early or stay in and tank damage from the enemy
