The opponent's Gastrodon was +3 in special defense, so it would require several fake tears to start doing any real damage to it from a special attacker. Sylveon was only able to dent it via a crit (which I don't think ultimately mattered). By using drain punch into his own Pokémon, Marco effectively kept the Conkeldurr in a position to deal heavy damage to Gastrodon at the trade off to weakening his Sylveon heavily. It's not a strategy most people would think of, but it was extremely effective. I think he would have won without doing that, though, as it would have come down to a nearly full health Sylveon next to a nearly full health Whimsicott vs just a Gastrodon. After a few fake tears, Gastrodon would not have been able to keep eating special hits, and would likely take 3 or so hits to bring down sylveon and 2 more to bring down Whimsicott. Ultimately misplaying the Tyranitar and playing far too aggressively with Arcanine (letting it take effectively a +1 Draco when he had a dark-type special tank in the back) was what sunk the first game.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. What it is that makes competitive games worthwhile will probably be different for everyone, but the only specific answer I can give you is mine: Competitive games are worthwhile when (and only when) they're games that you personally enjoy, and when said games have a competitive platform to work with. Going from that logic: Pokemon VGC is only worth pursuing if you like (and I mean *like* ) the most recent games, the direction that GF is going with future titles, AND are willing to drop 60+ dollars on every new release, just to stay in the game. If any of your answers to those is "no", then believe me when I say: You are NOT missing out.

Newbie here. Why did he do that instead of attacking the opponent with the same move? Was it because conkeldurr gains more health attacking Sylveon than gastrodon?
I see a lot of people making fun of Eduardo because they don't like how he acted at the beginning and I can see why but to me, it just seems like he was having fun and not like he was actually being a douche. I think it adds a lot of character to the matchup and makes it more interesting to watch. Let competitors have a bit of confidence in themselves, have energy and goof around. All that said, I don't actually know anything about Eduardo besides this so if he really is a douche, fair enough. But I don't think you can judge and justify insults merely based on this video.

Coming to pokemon sword from Hearthstone. I love the strategy, RNG, and competitiveness of this new Pokemon Era. Gen 8 was the first Pokemon game I've played since gen 3, and it was amazing. I just completed the game, and luckily also got Pokerus! I think I will start trying some online battles now, but will everyone be getting Diamond or Pearl for the next new game?

Tbh dynamax is more broken as well. Megas may have been a permabuff to many mons but with dmax giving stat buffs increased stats AND health most importantly it was alot easier to work around even mega mewtwo or rayquaza. A well time dmax is a win condition for sure. Especially with prior set up theres just nothing to do
