Punt returners have to be CRAZY... This is a clip from The Pat McAfee Show live from 10am-Noon EST Mon-Fri. SUBSCRIBE: / @thepatmcafeeshow MERCH: store.patmcafeeshow.com
Facts lol big FACTS. He doesn’t have it in his blood to not at least try. He was that kid where his parents would say “don’t touch that, it’s hot and will burn you”. He’d 100% touch it the second they turned their backs.
Returned punts my senior year in HS, no other feeling compares to when that ball is in the air and all eyes are on you. Never broke one, but never fumbled one either. Great topic!
Freshman year in HS my coach at practice had me as punt returner. I was a receiver , I was the skinniest guy on the team. I got under one, and got my bell rung before the ball was even in reach.
Former 5A High school punt returner/kick returner. Loved the job. Secret to having any success is to pick which way you are going to go before you get the ball because that .1 second you look can be the end. Always aim for ways you can go straight, and lastly, if you're about to get hit, use those shoulders. I was a skrawny, but quick guy, that was shocked when some folks bounced off me simply because my speed was able to beat their 'tackle.'
I remember Tim Dwight (aka “The Human Missile) on the Atl Falcons. Little guy was NUTZ. Probably weighed around 215 but would lower his shoulder on linebackers.
Pat's dad kinda sounds like mine. At a very young age I remember asking if I could be a fan of anyone but the New York Giants. He said he would give me a cardboard box and I could sleep at the end of the driveway. We had a very long driveway. The Giants could suck for another 2 decades. To this day I'll never stop watching and praying lol.
The hardest hit I ever delivered came off of a block on a kick return. Went totally out for a second, came too and I was on my feet cheering with my teammates about the block.I can only imagine what some of those hits that the gunner delivers feels like. I was 13, these are fully grown mega athletes.
Chiefs returners dont fair catch the ball either. Annoying as hell lol. We get it yall are fast but they are right in your face and still no fair catch
That is how they are taught. Dave Toub is probably one of the best ST coaches of all time and the Chiefs get athletes back there that can make those first moves.
It ain't nothing like it use to be when they use to form wedges on returns and people got clotheslined. They join hands and form wedges. It was awesome back then.
Yea returners are off for sure. Hey let's run into each other as fast as possible while being as big as we can physically be as human beings. Yea no thanks lol
It actually got common for kickers in the 90s to try to draw penalties on flops so they made it illegal and gave a punter a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty so no one did it again for years
I remember in HS junior year I was the kick returner I broke only 1 that year but senior year I remember going in for a punt and getting absolutely obliterated trying to field one at the 10, it’s night and day from kickoff to punt return
When you said your dad with throw soccer balls at you for flopping. I tried flopping in jr high basketball and my mom got so pissed, she was yelling at me about me falling down every time anyone bumped me and she pushed me when she said bumped, I fell right into the corner of our coffee table. Smacked my head off it and split my head open. Needless to say I’ve never let her forget it.
You have to take into consideration Josh Cribbs was a returner in the headhunting era of the NFL too Pac Man was a returner just about when the headhunting era was ending
i feel like alot of these "i dont fair catch"-types also bank heavily on the gunners more often than not pulling up from what would be a potential kill shot precisely out of fear of getting a huge penalty. but every now and then a guy just gets blasted like that.
Was a punt returner I did okay. I remember well not really remember more been told. I was looking up to catch a punt and I got blasted. Saw a blue sky then black then blue sky again lol.
May be a silly question... Why not take a receiving team lineman who would rush and get nowhere near the punter anyway, and put him 5-10 yards in front of the punt receiver, to protect him, so the receiver doesn’t have to worry about some guy barreling down on him?
So what makes catching the punt so hard, is it because of how high and how much velocity it has coming down, along with the dread of getting your cheeks clapped while waiting for this ball?
Nice kicks Hawk. By the way Hawk I always took you in madden fantasy draft because a couple good seasons you would be a 99. Always took Aj. But Pat naw bro.
Who Was The Best Punt Returner Of All Time?
Devin Hester or if he keeps it up tyreek hill
Josh cribbs.
Devin Hester
Hester
Dante Hall
They knew Pat would try to be a hero and make a big return 🤣
Facts lol big FACTS. He doesn’t have it in his blood to not at least try. He was that kid where his parents would say “don’t touch that, it’s hot and will burn you”. He’d 100% touch it the second they turned their backs.
He goes for the glory!! Always going for the gusto!!
“Pat can actually catch these things; yeah but he won’t fair catch”
1:06 “Top 3 in the specialist room for the colts”...AJ a demon
Bro that was so funny
"..with size 11 shoes, first name starts with Pat, last name starts with McAfee?"

Returned punts my senior year in HS, no other feeling compares to when that ball is in the air and all eyes are on you. Never broke one, but never fumbled one either. Great topic!
It was kinda easy to me (kinda). I was pretty hard to tackle.
Freshman year in HS my coach at practice had me as punt returner. I was a receiver , I was the skinniest guy on the team. I got under one, and got my bell rung before the ball was even in reach.

"Not even on the podium" 🤣🤣🤣
Glad they uploaded this part but sadly nothing about the bengals practice situation
What they say about it?
Mike Hurt I think something about an indoor facility
Mike Hurt probably something about them still not having an indoor practice facility

Daniel Nikel bro...you good? All he doing is giving advice to people that might be a punt returner
@@slimmyhendrix94 punt returners is important he sets up where the offense starts
Daniel Nikel only clown here is you pal...
Glad most folks saw I was just posting. Haven't been in HS in nearly 10 years. It was a fun time. I apologise if I struck a nerve.
6:41 that huge thing of gummy worms lol
You gotta get an interview with Devin Hester, mans was a beast at PR
Ran a opening superbowl kickoff, and overall a better kick returner than a punt returner, I think you should put more respect on his kr game
@@smallpeaker3957 he’s a great returner overall but he had 14 punt return touchdowns compared to 5 kick return touchdowns
Punt/kick converge was my favorite back in the day. Nothing like blowing up the return man.
I remember Tim Dwight (aka “The Human Missile) on the Atl Falcons. Little guy was NUTZ. Probably weighed around 215 but would lower his shoulder on linebackers.
One of the GOAT takes
Chuck knowing there's no chance you fair catch hahahaha
The random bag of trolis on the table outside 😂😂

AJ Hawk throwing heat full cylinders 🔥🚨🔥🚨
They gotta do more in person stuff with aj. Their dynamic in person is even better.
Damn the Ravens punt returner just suffered an injury to his legs on the practice field he was limping off
Ha Ha! Not even on the podium 😂
"Joel Embiid" haha I hear you Connor.
Funniest part of this clip is having random Connor off to the left😂
Sheeeeesh top 3 hands?? My boy was playing the wrong position 😂😂
Chiefs returners dont fair catch the ball either. Annoying as hell lol. We get it yall are fast but they are right in your face and still no fair catch

Y’all did D-But dirty with that lighting man.
Im just gonna call pat a Swiss army knife cause this dude is talented at everything I wonder if he got offered a ufc fight would he do it 👀👀
Lol... I had the same fence experience as a young kid.... Grab the fence and don't flinch and the 35 year old coach blasted balls for 15 minutes.
It ain't nothing like it use to be when they use to form wedges on returns and people got clotheslined. They join hands and form wedges. It was awesome back then.
I returned a couple in practice my senior year, until my best friend knocked my ass out cold, and they had to wake me with smelling salts
Yea returners are off for sure. Hey let's run into each other as fast as possible while being as big as we can physically be as human beings. Yea no thanks lol
He was waiting to take you out for a while
God bless everyone.,

Props for the J.Will jersey.
Best catch I ever saw dorsett make was when he caught the game winner in Tennessee
U got top 3 🙌

No you have to be a Madman to Play for a team without a Indoor Practice Facility
Cough cough Bengals
I’m so distracted by those trollis in the back
I mean you’ve def dropped snaps lol
When you said your dad with throw soccer balls at you for flopping. I play basketball with his dude at the gym, he’s nice
i feel like alot of these "i dont fair catch"-types also bank heavily on the gunners more often than not pulling up from what would be a potential kill shot precisely out of fear of getting a huge penalty. but every now and then a guy just gets blasted like that.
I fuckin love teams that draft best player available instead of drafting for need. Damn the draft is so fun
Who remembers Brandon banks. For like those 2 seasons.
Dudes wrecking it in the cfl
Jordan Wolfe those 2 seasons he left the cfl. Still doing his thing.
Martin Borgonia ikr
He is a beast in the CFL
Jamal Agnew on the Lions is the best Punt & Kick Returner in the league!!!!! 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Mel gray Lions
That’s is 1000% the truth.

New York just won the lottery in the nhl, it’s fine
tristen gomes I’m happy about that, but it was obvious the Rangers had a future before they won the lottery. The Knicks needed the first pick
tristen gomes who tf cares about the nhl lmao
Punt returning is insanely hard
Can you get your dad to be on the show? I feel like that would be a great segment lol
Uncle rico from napoleon would have 99 short pass accuracy if he was in madden
You don't have a returner so you cut josh Cribbs...lol worst move ever🤣
I like Dante hall as a punt returner
They called me a madman

black undershirt with a gold watch. Pat should do Gentlemen's Gazette
My finger is the same from punching someone on the side of the dome.
Guy made too many why didn’t ya run the ball jokes huh? 😂😂

Can’t do that
Didn't think returning punts would be THAT different than returning kick offs. Interesting.
Ball comes down different, you have more space to catch. You have more blockers in front of you. Sometimes, you can get a better running start.
Andre Roberts is going to return a punt for a TD against the titans this week...just a random prediction idk
Andre Roberts is literally the worst . He’s just annoying to see on the football field, the guy does nothing
top 3 for Punters 🤔 maybe lol
For the brand
Yessir
Pacman Jones? Right!
Went years without calling a fair catch!! Kind of a madman among madmen....
lmao "McAfee won't fair catch though" jup, that's what i thought
"yup"
Its definitely not something u can do easily without practice catching punts. Especially when they turn over and are seemingly coming straight down
Joel Embid💀
Panthers STILL trying to replace Ted Ginn Jr. If you got a functional WR who can return punts AND KOs you keep him until he wears out.
Ginn sucked returning punts here in carolina. Still trying to replace michael bates and steve smith yes
Best punt returner is d Jackson! Best return man in general is Hester.
Known as abuse these days, taping your kid to a fence. Old school, Gale Sawyers. Was like waiting for the gunpowder to ligh off.
Pat's stories so often reveal how bad the Colts' coaches were.
So what makes catching the punt so hard, is it because of how high and how much velocity it has coming down, along with the dread of getting your cheeks clapped while waiting for this ball?
It's not hard
Two words Dante Hall..
Hester and pac man
European dude new to the NFL scene here. My apologies, but who's the guest here? Have not seen him on the show before? I like his vibe.
I can barely see dude on the left
Being a 6’5ish PG in Asia. I can only get foul calls if I flop.
If I don’t I will never shoot a free throw.
Shitsrediculous!!!!!
I love you
Deonte Harris
cuzzy when you coming back to the birg?
dafuqs the birg lol? real people from pittsburgh know its da burgh lol.
WyomingPTT my bad ya right and i live in the burgh
Nice kicks Hawk. By the way Hawk I always took you in madden fantasy draft because a couple good seasons you would be a 99. Always took Aj. But Pat naw bro.
Sponsored by Trolli Gummy Worms
how many people have asked you if you’re in AB because of that shirt? lol
I hate flops as well. Play the right way. Mr. McAfee didn’t raise no wuss!
Is that AJ's brother?
DeSean Jackson
Is that Darius Heyward-bay?
Don’t watch this with your brightness down you can barely see the black guy...it’s ok I said that I’m black....
