Remember 6 months ago when we were livid that Rob Manfred barely punished the Astros for cheating? If we only knew then what we know now about how much further he'd go.
I wouldn’t describe their punishment as “barely”. He couldn’t suspend the players because the MLBPA would’ve gone nuts. Their punishment is still the worst dealed out ever in MLB. But the fact he swept the other teams knowingly doing the same under the rug, he’s a joke.
DirtyD who cares if the MLBPA would have gone nuts, even if a commissioner doesn’t have the power to be the judge jury and executioner like the NFL’s article 47, what kind of league doesn’t at least have a collective body that has the authority to punish? Manfred at the very least should have done something even if he knew it would be overturned in court. Because then he’s at least win in the court of public opinion. Baseball still would have looked like a joke, but to not even try makes baseball and him personally look like the ultimate joke.The baseball owners are garbage, some of of the worst in sports, we get that, just look at the negotiations for the season restart, but at the same time Marvin Miller and co went too far. The strike killed baseball, the right to basically immunity it won the players brought baseball back thanks to legal steroids, then the steroids went away and baseball died. And now it’s become a total joke and farce. The new rules are ridiculous. A pitch clock could have solved all of baseball’s problems 15 years ago. But instead the baseball owners let it die. And now Rob Manfred in his passive aggressive cowardice shovels dirt on its grace.

The only way I can see the owners saving face on this is if they remove Manfred before negotiations start. The guy admitted that he's not even a fan. So he's 100% there for the owners and their money. It's scary how quiet the players have been about his "it was going to be 60 games all along" comment.

not likely, because the league is probably the one who gets to decide who the arbitrator is, and don't bet on them ruling ageist the side that picked them. This is why arbitration is a mockery on Justice.

Baseball has failed to capture a young audience like other sports. It seems to be stuck in the past, and this whole situation clearly shows that.
well that's because every other sport has basically said you can't play defense. The young audience can't sit still for more than 5 minutes.

A lot of people find baseball boring and I'm not saying Manfred could have changed that, but I can't help but feel like having ANYONE else as commissioner could have helped the sport win over some more fans. Literally anyone would have been better for the sport. The orangutan that replaced Pat at the draft would have been better.
I live watching Manfred destroy every bit of credibility he has everytime he opens his mouth. Each time it just one step closer to getting a new commissioner. Literally anyone could be better.

MLB botched this heavy. They could've increased interest in the game for the first time in years while nothing was going on for months. Now this season is basically lost given the MLB now has to compete with every other sport for views. The hardcore fans like myself will still follow the game, but many other people will be watching the NFL, NBA, even NHL.
