Cams not that good of a thrower of the ball. Maybe because they have no real receiving threat except for Edelman, who is in reality just a very good slot guy but past his prime, maybe they thought that they could do something with a more mobile QB.
But I think they're still tanking for Trevor and the reason they got less of a fine for getting caught spying the 2nd time than the 1st (3rd round pick instead of a 1st and a $1M team fine), albeit with a bigger team fine which is meaningless in the big picture but none for Belichick this time, is because they worked out a deal with the NFL to not have another high profile black QB not get a job. I think it was a PR move. Or it's possible anyway. Why else would they get off lighter for their 2nd Spygate infraction than their 1st?
@@Relayer6a The team wasn't found directly at fault and even when it first came out everyone predicted it wouldn't be as harsh of a penalty this time around. They're definitely not going to tank on purpose. You cant do that in their division. Both Jets and Dolphins could easily be the worst in the division. Its easier to beat their record than try and be worse.

The backup Qb "serves the starter"? That may be the traditional way of thinking, but traditional thinking is often wrong. Remember when basketball coaches told players take a step in and take the higher percentage shot? Now the 3 ball is (and has always been) the mathamatical best shot. In baseball it was just make contact and put the ball in play. Now it is swing for the fences. Having more options at Qb is always better. This rationale sounds like justification to me. What happened to "Qb competition" or "no spot is safe" or "earning your spot"? How many throws does Mahomes routinely make that traditional coaching says are bad throws ? Lamar Jackson should be a wr. Ijs.Adapt evolve or get left behind.

He's not saying the backup is always going to be the backup...when he says the backup QB serves the starter, that's talking about a position, not a person. So if the 3rd string QB works his way up to start, the former starter, now backup, is there to serve the starter. Sometimes there may be 2 QB systems, but at all times there is still a backup, even in 2 QB systems one of them is to change things up and supplement the other QB. It has nothing to do with taking the 3-pointer or swinging for the fences, it's about the non-starter supporting and making himself useful to the starter. This isn't a radical outdated idea.

The job of the back up QB is to prepare the team for the starter, in a 16 game season the QB can't throw every pass in practice, your job as the back up QB is to help the offence be ready to practice with the starter and the defence prepare for the oppositions QB, its really not to prepair to start every week, that's why Jimmy G and Brian Hoyer were great back up QB's , they prepared the team for Tom , who prepared for the game on the weekend.

Cam has a high risk, high reward situation right now. He's on center stage of the Patriots as the follow up act to Tom Brady to show the world he still has it. The only stage bigger is "AmEriCa'S TeAm" the Cowboys. If he does well, he'll get a new contract but if he doesn't this might be it.

Dude this is insane. How was the rest of the league not able to pick him up before New England? Throw a little more at him and get it done! You're telling me, with ALL the teams struggling with quarterback position, not ONE team saw more value in him!? What a steal, this is like BUYING a number 1 draft pick. As Pat said a few videos back about this, shame on the other teams for allowing this to happen. The AFC was looking forward to a shake up and new faces. Now in all honesty, I think Cam is a solid QB and they have a shot to take the AFC once again. They had nothing, now they have something. So forget all the freebies teams thought they were going to have against New England.

He still has to beat out Stidham for the starting job. Not saying he can't, just saying Stidham isn't going to lay down and give him the job.
I think Stidham has everything it takes to be a great QB in the NFL. As long as he doesn’t get injured and has a fantastic worth ethic. But there’s still nothing wrong with letting these guys compete for the starting position. And holy cow, one explosive back up quarterback you have With either one of these guys.

You could be in a spot were your about 200 million into one and keep em around because they're drafted top 5. Stafford and the Lions being an example. Nobody wants to be wrong and lose their job. Scared money don't make money. Unfortunately we see the same retreads over and over again. How many back ups could be easily replaced with a rookie and the team wouldn't miss a beat but perhaps better in the future. Rivers is being over paid by the colts. If it fails the gm gets to say i tried to be safe and keep their job another season.

I've been a Pats fan since the Boston Patriots played at Fenway Park!! Letting Brady walk was a monumental blunder and Cam Newton is a talented head case/Belichick reclamation project. Historically, the majority of those projects have failed miserably, as will this one.......and I am now a Tampa Bay Bucs fan! Robert & Jonathan Kraft are totally gutless and, with the money they've made on the team, probably couldn't care less at this point. It wouldn't even surprise me to hear that the team is for sale. Dynasty over! Take the money and run!!
It's not shad Khan fault as much as its Dave Caldwell's fault. As much as I like Minshew, Caldwell has missed on so many pics that he will double down chasing the "genius" status for selecting a QB in the 6th round that MAY become an elite starter.

disagree, (my input is) he signed for 1mil because he absolutely could not throw the ball to the right side of the field last year. He literally could not complete a pass to the open side of his body with his shoulder and throwing style. Its unfortunate but true. Cam has always come off as a team oriented player. Always.
