I had a teammate in HS get his opposite foot caught on the mat while getting cradled and twisted to his back and had both bones in his lower leg twist and shatter. He was in a wheelchair for the better part of a year.
His only move was to fart honestly 😂🤣😭🤦🏾♂️

Mendez is in his 2nd year. He should be a RS Fr, but got it pulled last year.
Hardy will be going into his 5th year next season. Wrestled '21, RS '22, Wrestled '23 and took 3rd this year.
One match at the Olympic qualifiers I was going to make a stand for ruby so I ate one of everything on the Arby’s menu. And I’m keystering like 2 hours before the match.
O ln fist bump I started squelching out sludge and we slipped all over it immediately
And they chose to eliminate from elite world level Olympiad.
This is 40 years ago and I have and still train Arby’s.
I will add I like hoagies a lot as well.
As someone who’s wrestled for 13 plus years I can confirm if you get caught in this move or a flying squirrel in a match you either have to quit the sport and get demoted to JV

I wrestled a guy from Portland state around 2004 and caught him in a spladle. Made the front page of our local newspaper.
Would love to see Pat in the room for a PSU practice or dual meet next season. Getting Cael on the program would be awesome.

Yes sir. Shocked some people just came to realize this though. Pennsylvania has FAR AND AWAY the best scholastic wrestling in America. Why would Cael come to PSU? Because the best in the country are in Pa. Dapper Dans since I was in high school…. Pa vs the country and we won all four years.
My highschool coach never wrestled a day but was an amazing coach with multiple state champions including me but I am embarrassed to say he caught me in a spladle once at a morning practice and I’ve never heard the end of it

I got spladled by Sam Turner after pushing him because he stood on the center line while I was getting into referees position. Worst move ever split my legs in half. Most humbling lesson I’ve ever been taught.

Carter Starocci wrestled for Cathedral Prep in Erie PA. When I worked for another paper nearby, I saw him a few times at the PIAA State Championships. He was an absolute beast against some of the best HS wrestlers in the country. I am not surprised that he won four NCAA titles for PSU. Also ... when you get caught in a spladle ... the more you fight to get out of it the worse it gets ... LOL
Not everyone is gonna be a wrestling watcher but I implore everyone to watch at least the championship night next year or at least just a few matches. It's so electric. It made me excited to be a wrestler the first year I watched

@@SHIFTKICK I remember watching it my freshman and sophomore years, seriously wanting to quit, I watched the tourney by chance at the end of it even Ohio St had that great team with Penn State still being insane. Being from Ohio it just pumped me up like crazy to see them win.

@@_shinigami_3507 roddy white was a 2 time south carolina state champ. ray lewis won a state title in florida, stephen neal was a national champ at heavyweight (beat brock lesnar) before playing o-line for the patriots dynasty. there's a lot more too.

Penn state has a long history of monster wrestlers (Pennsylvania in general too). Joe Humphreys who is in his 90s and is considered one of the greatest fly fishermen in history still goes to practices snd hits the mats sometimes. PA is very string in wrestling, soccer and fly fishing. Great state proud to live here

Except their department of Agriculture is putting small farmers out of business. There is an Amish farmer with a perfect health record that they are attacking. But he has good legal representation and is fighting back using the legal system.
Getting caught in a spladle is tough but sometimes you walk into it. A few guys at the HS level only use that move and bait you into it.
I've done this once at a State tournament, I didn't plan on it, just how the match went. I set it up from him shooting an inside single leg with a botched sprawl on my end and saw an opportunity. The ref pulled me to the side after and said that was one of the best pins that he had seen.
10/10 would recommend.

I hit dudes with the spladle so often in HS, that by the end of my senior year, no one ever shot a single leg on me out of fear of getting wrapped up.

The NCAA wrestling tournament is can’t miss each year. Love it.
This was my fav move freshman year. my best friend from that year tried to finish every match for the next four years with this move.
My coach hated it but we practiced this and used it quite often in high school. I even stuck a guy in college with it.
We need more Wrestling coverage please the sport is so small!
My Grandson wrestled at CASTLETON STATE and is now trying to get his foot in the door coaching.
So believe me when I tell you that this isnt even close to some of the moves and bodily impossible positions these kids end up in .

A spladle is just one of those moves that you always have to be aware of and you can never, never let yourself get close to being put in. There is nothing you can do once it's in.

I started wrestling in 8th grade. Our coach was a olympic wrestler, and he put some of us in this, in midair.......so embarassing but know what, knew we had room to grow.
Ohio State's assistant coach is J. Jaggers, he won 4 Ohio High titles, and 2 National Titles doing the Spladle.

One of the best parts of this show is introducing sports and figures that aren't mainstream and getting me into them. This interview was so much more interesting than taking Cowboys or LeBron....Pat doing more for sports than any other show...

I have been put in a banana split before, by surprise at wrestling practice. I had no idea what the heck was happening but I had never felt my groin do that before, it was a horrific few seconds. What's worse, the guy that did it to me was ranked #1 in the nation and is now actually Snooki (from Jersey Shore)'s brother-in-law.
Ouch for DC. Pat kind of savaged him in many ways, just not outright lol.
The old story about the guy who gets caught in this and suddenly he shoots up in the air, flips and pins his opponent.
His coach asks him how he did it and he says, "I looked up and saw a pair of balls so I bit them as hard as I could!"
The coach starts to berate him for unsportsmanlike tactics biting his opponent and he says, "No, it's surprising how high you can jump when you bite your own balls!"
Watched a kid get pinned in the first 45 secs at the Illinois State Championships in a leg cradle…that was pretty embarrassing
