I commend Pat for talking about baseball even when he doesn’t like it. He could just not talk about it like most of the sports shows do but he realizes he might have an audience for it so he goes with it. Cool guy

Pat might be the best personality to have come out of pro sports in the last two decades. The guy deserves to have a wider audience if he wants it... can you imagine him color commentating a Super Bowl?
@Zah Hall i mean as a game it's interesting... a great catch or brilliant base running decision is as exciting to watch as any athletic play in any sport.
The biggest problem with it is all the time wasted in between those moments.
Don't get me wrong I find the battle between pitchers and batters fascinating from a television perspective... but then again Im someone who actually enjoys chess so I'm fully aware of why people find it to be dull.
I rarely comment on youtube but here we go.. Him mentioning baseball and all the other different sports he does is one reason this is one of the few sports shows I watch pretty much on a daily basis. I'm a baseball fan and know its not gonna be a baseball show. But I still get updates on baseball news and get to hear an interesting perspective on it. I'm also from Pittsburgh so i can relate 100% with his frustration with the Pirates, and them being a reason it's difficult becoming a baseball fan in Pittsburgh because of the team.

Facts. That season he killed it. Still had over 1000 yds. On just over 60 receptions i believe. The following season he averaged over 20 yds per catch. Simply unstoppable
I think it really depends on the sport and the people covering that sport. The media basically makes up the stories it wants, and makes anyone a hero or a villain
No one cared that OJ simpson had 2k yards in a shortened 14 game season. Extrapolating his aav ypg (148) he would hold the record at 2300 yards in a season. Thats why this 17 game proposal sucks. Its again going to shift all the records in favor of new players.
Baseball holds those numbers in such higher regard

I’d rather have those guys that hit moonshots then guys who know what pitches are coming. They still had Sosa and McGuire still had to guess which pitch is coming and where.
I agree...and for anyone who thinks (steriods) were the #1 reason why balls were getting hit out of ball-parks the way they were back in those auspicious years, one only needs to do some basic research and find that even w/out *roids* , unexplained changes in performance are the norm, not the exception.
Writer Nate Silver, who wrote the book *Baseball Between the Numbers* ~ noted that 36 of the 76 pro players suspended for PEDs in 2005-the first year that MLB players were subject to suspensions, and also the year that minor league violators’ names were publicly disclosed-were pitchers, and he tentatively concluded that among hitters, “the average performance improvement from steroid use is detectable but small."

Nope. He always stayed skinny. One of the prettiest, if not prettiest swings ever. Him and my favorite player Barry Bonds just had that seeet swing one can only dream of.

Was at the 69-70 home run game, it was my birthday weekend, born and raised cardinals fan, GREATEST SPORTING EXPERIENCE IVE EVER BEEN A PART OF!! Still have my ticket stub, leaving old Busch Stadium that day, people were trying to buy our stubs because they knew it was history.
This is why I 100% support those guys and they should all be in the HoF. When I was a kid I remember how exciting baseball was with all the homeruns and all those stories it was awesome that's why I always miss that baseball.
The reason I love this show, is because they talk about all sports even if they may not be a fan of a certain one. Best sports talk show on KRplus. Hands down.
i remember as a kid watching mcgwire hitting 62. it was a tuesday night, the game was on fox and they only had playoff games on weekdays. and i think they were playing the cubs ironically. his first at bat, hit to left field, barely went over the wall. i started watching baseball during the steroid era, and even tho it is not looked at very fondly, the sport was awesome.
I remember that day, he broke Roger Maris record. It was electric and amazing. Roger got one extra game, and Roger broke the Babes record in the last game. Roger has a few World Series rings.

MLB was dead in the water after the 1994 strike. Mark McGwire gave it life in the ‘97 season when he got close to Maris. Then, in ‘98, he and Sammy Sosa saved baseball and sent it into the stratosphere!
I remember going to a game in Arizona. We were in the third deck. When Mark came to the plate he looked like a giant compared to everyone else. No one needed the jumbotron to tell who was at the plate.
Its kinda amazing how little Pat know about other sports.

I get that these two essentially saved baseball and provided a “feel good” moment that transcended sports. But, for a statistic-driven sport like baseball where numbers are so important when judging a player’s performance, it’s hard to judge one player’s numbers who uses PED’s vs. players that didn’t. Especially those who played in the non-steroid era. I understand why they probably won’t ever be in the HOF. I’m a huge McWire fan too, as a St. Louisan who saw him hit BP up close a few times. It was an jaw-dropping event the first time. I was totally in awe.

You mentioned record in the NFL and going from a 16 to a 17 game schedule. Remember the NFL used to have a 14 game schedule until 1978.

Last game of the season in 2004, Sammy walked out of the stadium and left while the game was still in progress. Despite security cameras clearly showing this, he denies that he did so. That is likely the biggest sticking point between Sammy and the Cubs organization.
I’d rather have the biggest, baddest guys on steroids hitting 600 foot bombs than having a 5’8” guy hitting home runs that barely clear the fence with the juiced balls that MLB is now supplying.

That was an amazing time for Baseball. I was a fan as a kid all through it. Also steroids don't cause guys to hit more Home Runs, how do you know this? Because a few years ago, across the MLB, a record number of Home Runs were hit
The biggest thing with steroids to me is sure it gave them power for the home runs, but you still have to hit the ball. Doesn't matter how big you are if you can't hit a curveballor time a fastball you won't hit. Bonds was a great hitter.
Funny thing is that they regulate now and people are still huge. So, it makes you think they may have not been on stuff.

Me too I remember when he came to chase field in Arizona in 1998 we watched his bp practice and he hit a hr so far it shattered and broke the sign on the front row grill restaurant that was like 5 stories up in the outfield, nobody had ever seen a diamondback let alone any other player hit it there before it was nuts.........

You keep two leagues, NL and AL. But NL is Natural League, and AL is Artificial League. All NL players are forbidden from taking PEDs, with frequent mandatory testing, et cetera. All AL players are REQUIRED TO take PEDs. Tell me that wouldn't be awesome!!! 🤣

I think you missed the point of the 30 for 30. It was supposed to put people in the moment and show them how important this was for baseball. It’s easy to write it off as “oh they were all roid freaks” but it showed people what it was at the time and how it reinvigorated baseball.
