I hated those years the colts would come off the gas and then lose the edge I hated that

@@Nevano12 the colts had several seasons where they would rest their players the last week or two and that would come to haunt them in the playoffs, we saw it this year with the ravens because after a week of rest things don't go as smooth as they should

Colts did that regularly in that Era. If the colts had a guaranteed spot in the playoffs, they were loosing the rest of the regular season

I was always viewed Mathis being a better pass rusher than Dwight, but idk. They're both really good and need to be in the Hall.

Mathis should be studied by all defensive players for his ball stripping abilities, alone.
Definitely feel like Mathis was a little more versatile than Freeny and had a little more strength as well.
If memory serves me, Dwight sprained his ankle before that game, the Colts just couldn't pressure Drew Brees.

Hell, you know what's better than 16-0, 17-2. Had a chance to beat the Saints, Hank Bassett misses the onside kick catch, and drew Brees completed like 80% of his passes. Hard to win when that goes against you

RANDOM THOUGHT BUT: I believe when you chase some sort of objective and tell yourself “I’ll be happy once I get this or once I have this or do this” you’ll find that once you get that thing you’re no different than before. I believe the path to happiness is within, not some external point to run to, so look within and find a perspective that allows you to be happy in the present. And I think we should spend most our time in the present because happiness is maximized when you’re lost in the moment and not thinking of something else while you’re doing whatever it is that is bringing you happiness. I find meditation helps practice being present and being in your body more than your mind. I also find that while meditating the mind is put at ease, making it easier to find a healthy perspective on things. Peace and love mis amigos eternos :)

I can't tell you how much I hated seeing the Colts not bother with the final game or two in those years. As a football fan, it's appalling. I mean, sure, I get the idea that you don't want Manning having his arm snapped in half in a meaningless game, but fans still pay full price to get into the stadium.

It was stupid for Jim Caldwell to choose to lose those last games. The tide of the Super Bowl was so close to being different I bet it they were 16-0 in their mindset they would have beat the saints not that it helped the patriots .

As a lifelong Colts fan I have to say it is such a disappointment that we were able to build something so great with Bill Polian but that his experiences in Buffalo caused us to be too cautious which cost us the chance to go undefeated.
We paid for that later. I feel like the karma of that followed us to the Super Bowl just like the karma of getting rid of Peyton Manning after he got hurt for the first time in his career after starting 227 straight game is still following us today.
I love Andrew Luck but I wish we would have traded that pick and stacked the deck for the last few years of Peyton Manning's career and made a run for it. That might have changed the trajectory for the Colts and for Andrew Luck's career, Andrew might still be playing today.

Colts roster included hall of famers like Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeney, and Dallas Clark. Saints had Brees and... yup. Seriously though, Tracie Porter and Johnathan Vilma were out of the league five seasons later and Colsten was no longer relevant. This was Drew Brees and the 25th ranked defense against Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne.

Caldwell was a garbage coach who wrecked the colts greatness . He wouldn’t let the team do what they have done for like a decade , he wanted to be the boss when everyone knew it was manning

I agree. Minnesota had no weaknesses on their team, they could run the football unlike Indy or New Orleans and their defense was top 5 in the league in every category. Too bad the Vikings turning the ball over 6 times and New Orleans hunting for Favre's head were just too much for them to overcome in the NFC title game.
