Awesome! I got a chance to meet him at a reds fest one year when I was little as well. They told us he wouldn't sign anything besides the stack of small pictures that were on the table he was sitting at. He would sign for kids only & he went against what they said & signed our hats or whatever stuff we had. He was simply the best!

@@evxnhouse as a kid I got to meet a few players and they were always above and beyond. I think it was because they were struggling, looking back, I prefer a bad team with players who appreciated the fans. I don't have memories of a world series, but Dave Valle challenged me to arm wrestle, and I say that's WAY better.

Growing up a Reds fan in Cincinnati furing the 90s and early 2000's, this was my team. Reds have had some great teams and some really bad ones, but nothing will ever replace the dynamic Griffey brought to the club.
Sure, they never won big while he was there, but it did not matter. They were a blast to watch, win or lose.

Having Griffey Jr. and Sean plus and the rest of the super entertaining guys that played on that team those years was sooo fun to be a part of if you were a Reds fan. The list of incredible players was endless, even though we couldn't pull anything off it was a great time. I live 10 minutes south of Cincinnati and it was truly the most fun I ever had watching baseball.

Being from Seattle and growing up with JR, I’m also left handed but the guy was the greatest. Like you said never an issue with him off the field. On the field he tried to make the catch to many times and ended up hurt which also hurt me a a kid. So I’d also like to say Steve Largent is right up there as my all time favorite Seattle sports heroes. Not that anyone asked. Keep up the good work.

I remember going to see Ken Griffey Jr. as a kid when he came to the Ballpark in Arlington to play the Texas Rangers. It was like going to go see Babe Ruth! In little league they went out of their way to tell us NOT to swing like Ken Griffey Jr. He was that big. This was before the Mark McGuire / Sammy Sosa home run race. Had his video game for Super Nintendo and everything! (Was the most expensive thing I had ever purchased at that point, $50). Even during the home run race of 98, I thought Griffey was going to win for sure. Didn't know what steroids were back then... Welp that's my story. Good times. Love the 90s

Me too. Im a Rangers fan but I went to as many Mariners games in Arlington as possible. He's still the only player to this day that I would cheer for from an opposing team.... even my stupid account name "Bones12x2" ive used that since I was a kid before youtube even existed because I made my first email account and 24 was already taken so my dumb kid brain was like... well... 12x2=24 so close enough. I had to use Griffeys number somehow. I still use 24 for everything because of The Kid.

Lol I remember when I valeted at this high end hotel and the video game The Show was doing some promo in the hotel. Many MLB players were coming in to do their promo. I don’t watch baseball but some high profile names were coming in. Now I know the name Ken Griffey Jr but never seen a pic of the guy I could remember. Sure enough Griffey comes in around 8p and he looked like a baseball player so I asked “Here for The Show?” He said “yeah bro!!” And I grabbed the valet ticket and was like “last name?”, he was kinda confused and shocked but then said “Griffey!”. I instantly recognized the name and googled him after lol. When he came back out I told him sorry and we chatted about how funny the situation was. Anyways he was an awesome guy and I’ll always have that memory.

"Junior" showed up at the EAA Fly in here in Oshkosh a few years ago. He was a "VIP" so was carted around the grounds but was SO cool. Most of us there are pilots(as is he) and so it was talking flying...a little baseball...but mostly airplanes. Anyhoo...I met him while he was out in the campground at his RV one night. Just a super nice guy....Same for a player on the Brewers named BJ Surhoff...a friend of mine grew up with him and while we were living in Seattle we met up with him after a game and got a few beers. Super nice guy as well(this was late 80's/early 90's ish)

Griffey's swing was ELECTRIC. When we were kids we'd always try to imitate it. I lived in Washington for a year in the early 90's so I got to see a lot Griffey that season. The following year Ken Griffey Jr baseball came out on the Super Nintendo and I played the ever living crap out of that game, and of course I had to have the Mariners, even though I am a Pirates fan.

  • @wesflash1

Griffey and Dunn had a totally different sound hitting the ball when Griffey was with the Reds. The crack of a hit was sooooo different to everyone else in BP, and that was just batting practice. During the game, with all the extra crowd noise, it was a little harder to hear the difference in the crack of the bat, but it was there too. Griffey's swing was so deceptively powerful, but there was no denying the power with how the ball lept of the bat.

Except LeBron is an ignorant tool who happens to be the best basketball player and athlete most have seen, but griffey was amazing as a person too! Griffey was on my wall as a child and I bought his swingman cleats every year. I used my lawn mowing money in like the early 2000s to buy the Seattle mariners package on satellite cuz I lived in Minnesota. I loved Ken Griffey jr. I Still love Ken Griffey Jr!
