If he's recovered from his two surgeries, I don't really see how things would be drastically different from 2015 EXCEPT the schedule then was laughable and this year is the toughest on paper.
Of course this all assumes Cam can learn the playbook in time, is the starter, and the season actually happens...

Can Newton does still have it. He is a great QB. Sure, untimely injuries have slowed him down, but the subpar blocking in Carolina didn’t help. In NE, he will get a first class O-Line and he will have a solid defense to stack the game in his favor. I wish Cam nothing but the best. He laid it all on the line in Carolina.

@@joshjohnson2753 he was...he had a great arm and good accuracy ran when he needed to but mostly stayed in the pocket which is good for longevity in the NFL and the numbers he put up were insane compared to the other QBs ..the only concern is the hip injury he sustained but even then he still holds the most potential

I'm actually less worried about winning the division. We have McDermott that coached with prime Cam and knows exactly how to contain him. Anytime he faces good defenses he crumbles. With Stidham there wasn't as much known making him a wildcard.

Before the draft season this year I thought it was going to be a 50/50 split between the Bills and Patriots with the Bills getting their division. With the signing of Diggs the Bills go 100% on the Pat's and the division. Brady leaves and the Bills are an easier go in the division. Cam gets signed to Pat's and we are back to a 50/50 split but with the Bills getting their division. I think Diggs makes a bigger impact for the Bills than Newton does for the Pats

Cam's rookie season Smith landed 79 for 1394 and vaulted back into the discussion of top 5 receivers. I agree. 11 championships in the 13 yrs Bill Russell was playing plus 8 in a row. That is incredible. But the Patriots teams under Bill Bellichick from 2001 till whenever is a very close second.

I think you have a solid argument when comparing championships alone. However, when you look up how many teams were in the league back then the 11 championships doesn't seem as impressive in my personal opinion. I am pretty sure in those 11 championships they played the same team more than 3 times in the championship game in a league with less than 10 total teams. Of course they won a ton of championships. With that said the Pats have been consistently at the top longer than the Celtics were with way more competition. 18 years. Almost 2 decades. 32 teams. Brady and Bill have been to 9 SB's. The Pats evolved through the different eras on top of everything else. Ground n Pound, West Coast, Wild Cat... they did it all and dominated with it all. I think all of that needs to be taken into consideration, not just championships alone.

@Harish Karunakaran I do not know much about other sports in the world but can you provide a team in another sport that is comparable to the 2001-2019 Pats? 18 years, 9 Championship appearances, 5 Championships won, 4 loss. I do not know of many other teams in the world that have gone through as much as the Pats have and still remained on top for as long as they did. They didn't just win every championship in a row. They won 3 out of 4 then 10 years later won a mother two a year apart from one another. I honestly do not think there are other teams in any sport that has done something like what they have done for 18 years. I am open to what you have to offer though!!

@@aldenbayless7954 definitely. and the NFL is organized in such a way to prevent dynasties from happening. with only 8 teams in the NBA back in 1956, the Celtics were able to snatch up three future hall of famers in the first round including Russell (tho one was a "territory pick"); that would be unheard of these days - too many teams, too many scouts/coaches, drafting overall just way more serious than it was back then. not to take much anything from the accomplishment, it's just way different. as an aside, even how the games are played makes it harder IMO - you can have a bad game in the NBA and win the series or championship (1956 championship went to game 7 after the Celtics dropped the first game at home), but in the NFL winner takes all. that's why we can point to flukes like the helmet catch for making or breaking a championship game, not really comparable to the NBA in that respect.

The Celtics in the late 50s and 60s were more dominant and dynastic over a shorter period but what the Pats have put together with nearly 4 times the number of teams in the league, free agency, roster fluidity and player movement, fielding 53-man rosters instead of 12 and the modern structure of drafting positions that is the inverse of the team’s prior year record, make what the Pats have achieved and sustained the far more impressive accomplishment.
