This is only partially true. Yeah, a lot of the peleton were doping, however, there were a lot of clean dudes that got beat in that era that just refused to dope and retired or were harrassed out of the sport. Some of those also being "our guys" like Andy Hampsten who finished 4th in 1992, and was the leader of Lance's Motorola team the year pre-doping, pre-cancer Lance had to bail out of the Tour. Christophe Bassons had better VO2 stats than Lance and a lot of the other guys in the tour, but outspokenly stuck to not doping. During one stage of the Tour de France, the entire pack decided to slow up just to hold him back. When he took off, they picked up their pace and caught him, and then Lance pulled on his shoulder mid race, told him that he was a disgrace to cycling, he should shut up, and that he should quit cycling. In one of the best battles I've ever seen in the Tour De France, Andy Schleck battles Alberto Contador on stage 17 in 2010. (Armstrong was once again this year, and was 22nd before they kicked him out.) The two of them broke free in the mountains, and raced the final 15km against Contador each attacking and counter-attacking up the mountain climb. Schleck was clean and won the stage. Contador was on drugs and was stripped of the overall win. I love cycling as a sport. It's tainted to all hell, but there were some phenomenal performances laid down with heart and god-given talent that go for nothing because of these guys who just wanted it bad enough to dope.

@HitlerActually really because the % of people that survive cancer has drastically increased in that time so maybe spend a little more time on Google and less being a tool
HitlerActually first of all that’s just wrong cancer treatment is constantly changing. A lot of cancer research focuses on non invasive drugs that are used in tandem with chemo. Just because chemo is still used doesn’t mean cancer treatment hasn’t changed. Also, every dollar that goes towards research that doesn’t produce a successful drug is still useful.

The cycling sanctioning bodies LOVED ignoring steroids until the press caught on. Just like the NFL loved ignoring headshots until CTE lawsuits started. Hating Lance for doing steroids in cycling is like hating mid 90's NFL players for headshots. He came from an era where it was widespread. All the most competitive humans will do whatever their sport tolerates until the sport doesn't tolerate it anymore.
If you read all of the comments on here, most people don't hate Lance for cheating. They hate Lance and think he's a dirtbag because he tried to ruin people's lives to cover up his cheating.
Armstrong's fiercest competitor Jan Ullrich is a nutcase as well. Pretty sad actually. Anyone who hasn't watched The Armstrong Lie and Icarus on Netflix should change that immediately btw
One thing you think should be talked about is the fact he had Cancer won 7 tour de France titles and oh ya, beat cancer and kept lean body muscle up, energy up etc. No cure for cancer, don't do steroids yet they've helped people beat cancer..
Lance still doesn't sound sorry for anything. He's just sorry he got caught, which is why he won't forgive Floyd Landis because Landis' testimony is what led to Lance's downfall.
It's one thing to be ultra competitive on the playing field/track/whatever, but it's vital to keep it there. Otherwise you're basically gonna be an asshole. It's likely that Brady or Manning are very well grounded by others who can call them out on their BS when needed. We all need a little of that in our lives!
Been following Lance since he was a 17 year old junior triathlete, always liked him. A fierce competitor who beat cancer and raised hundreds of millions of dollars for cancer research. I make no excuses for him he doped like everyone else in cycling at the time. I don’t think he should be stripped of his victories. But all things considered Greg Lemond was vindicated and he is the greatest cyclist America has ever produced.
Killer instinct, that's what made him win. Just like Jordan, a once in a lifetime athlete like lightning striking. This is what made them the best. The willingness to do whatever it took. They trained harder and performed better than all of them.
Damn all that! I never got into watching pro sports to watch the average compete! Put them on every performance enhancement substance you can possibly find!
The amazing part of lance armstrong is his recovery from cancer. It sounded like he was on his death bed for a while. SO whatever he did to recover from that should be the focus.
I never gave a crap about cycling until Lance Armstrong. I still watch because of him. Doping in cycling seems to be the norm rather than the exception. I don't hate the guy. At times I pity him. The greatest Tour de France's I've ever watched involve him and Jan Ulrich. I couldn't have done what he did if the gave me every steroid that was ever produced. Floyd Landis same thing. Sorry I'm not a hater.
Armstrong had an entire team 8 other cyclist which only had the sole purpose to helped Armstrong win the tour. If you have followed cycling you know this. Other teams have different goals and are only there to win a stage or two. Others might have a captain which the hope can win but the team has other plans as well. Armstrong was there to win but he didn't do it by him self. Far from it.
good point. Lance (despite the doping) made sure the team had the BEST of everything and trained the longest and hardest. He was maniac when it came to training and preparation. I think that's why he won 7 Tours in a row! Look at Team Sky the most recent dominant team, while they have won what 7 Tours with Wiggins, Froome,( Benal the young guy) and the guy that won 2 years ago. But not consecutive and different guys won due to injury etc.
I do understand not wanting to keep yourself at a competitive disadvantage and I probably would have done what Lance was doing if everyone else was doing it too.
There's some part of me deep down that lets just say I wouldn't be surprised if Phelps was on something if he ever did an Oprah interview in the next 5-10 years
Possibly, but I met him when he was 16 in Orlando beating adults. He has abnormally large feet, limbs and even hands. He was a dick even at 16 yrs old.
I learned that Lance forged a birth certificate to be able to compete as a 16 year old, so the moral of the story is: He's been a CHEATER all his life!! Did enjoy the first one tho, looking forward to the next
I’ve never had a problem with Lance Armstrong using steroids. Dude raised hundreds of millions of dollars for cancer research, perhaps more than any athlete ever, and also put a spotlight on a sport that Americans and, probably a good majority of the world, could careless about.
I believe they looked into one tour de france final results to see how far down you needed to find someone ‘’clean’’. Clean in the since of no positive drug test in their career. I think they went down to the 11or 12 placed person with no dirty tests ever.
Some people are mad he cheated. Most people are mad because of the lives he ruined in extending his lies. He was the best cheater in a room full of cheaters.
Lance is the greatest cyclist ever PERIOD. It’s the fact that UCI hated the American who was destroying the field who was also cheating and exposing and banning him was the only way to beat him.
I watched the Greg LeMond 30/30 they showed earlier that day and LeMond tells of an incident in the early 90's where Lance's mom asked him if he could help Lance by not making him be such an asshole. As I was watching it I think Lance came across as being a narcissist, not caring about anyone but himself.
U oughta watch greg lemonds doc, only american tour de france winner now, he did it clean too. He shouldve had another if his teamate didnt back stab him
I competed in triathlons in Texas years ago, and saw Armstrong competing as a teenager at the time. He was what they called a "phenom", even back then. You can just tell he had the 'gift'. Too bad he ended up taking the road that he did...he probably didn't need to do so. Then again, with others cheating and doping...
It is fair play, and it isn't fair play at the same time... Having "dirt" on people, requires those people to have gotten in the "mud" with you at least *one* time in their past. The more often, and less opposed to getting in the mud you become, the deeper and deeper you sink. Lance was simply smart enough to swim to the bottom, and eat up ALL the rewards, as more, and more people jumped into the mud-pit.
Cadel Evans wasn't a drug cheat, don't know who he was ? he was the 1 clean rider in the top 10 , Lance and his doper buddies stole his prize money his endorsements and more importantly his glory, the fact you don't know who he is , just proves what an arsehole lance Armstrong was, Lances team mates felt so bad about screwing over Cadel Evans , they helped him win the 2011 Tour de France.
What are we learning from Lance, Michael, Tiger, etc.? You gotta be a jerk and you have step on others to get to the top. In the words of a wise person, "Be careful who you step on getting to the top, they're the same people you'll pass as you fall to the bottom".

It's likely that Brady or Manning are very well grounded by others who can call them out on their BS when needed. We all need a little of that in our lives!
And ray guy was great.
Man this is the best show out right now ! I feel bad whenever I forget to like or comment just to show support
I have to say I am enjoying this as much as the Michael Jordan Documentary
Been following Lance since he was a 17 year old junior triathlete, always liked him. A fierce competitor who beat cancer and raised hundreds of millions of dollars for cancer research. I make no excuses for him he doped like everyone else in cycling at the time. I don’t think he should be stripped of his victories. But all things considered Greg Lemond was vindicated and he is the greatest cyclist America has ever produced.
What people don’t get is what separates Lance from other elite athletes is he has all the signs & symptoms of a psychopathic narcissist.
Bingo...thats what it's all about. He's a vile evil human.
Killer instinct, that's what made him win. Just like Jordan, a once in a lifetime athlete like lightning striking. This is what made them the best. The willingness to do whatever it took. They trained harder and performed better than all of them.
Wow a discussion of super competitive people and no mention of Romanowski? I'm actually really surprised.
Pro cycling IS a team sport!
Damn all that! I never got into watching pro sports to watch the average compete! Put them on every performance enhancement substance you can possibly find!
I thought his story was that he just walked out of a bar and started running at first
The amazing part of lance armstrong is his recovery from cancer. It sounded like he was on his death bed for a while. SO whatever he did to recover from that should be the focus.
I remember most of the Nike stuff my mom bought me was from Ross and was always “livestrong” gear. Makes so much sense now
Armstrong was a fuckin gangster.
How do I get one of those masks?!?!?
He played the game better than the rest
The best sociopaths, use "philanthropy" to hide behind their intentions
I never gave a crap about cycling until Lance Armstrong. I still watch because of him. Doping in cycling seems to be the norm rather than the exception. I don't hate the guy. At times I pity him. The greatest Tour de France's I've ever watched involve him and Jan Ulrich. I couldn't have done what he did if the gave me every steroid that was ever produced. Floyd Landis same thing. Sorry I'm not a hater.
Get me on those Lance Armstrong supplements
Blood transfusions... have fun
@@hamilt55467 thanks 🙏
Lance is a God
LONER - YES - Endurance athletes are driven, not always a great thing...
But not consecutive and different guys won due to injury etc.
the guys probably could not even name other cyclist. They should stick to football talk.
I mean they literally drug test before almost every race at large meets.
All these athletes are on something. A 300 pound man running faster than the speed of light cough cough *NFL PLAYERS* is defo on something.
Kenneth Polvent the guy has feet like flippers. It was the same for the Australian, Thorpe. He had a size 21 foot. They were built for swimming.
Phelps is a natural phenomenon. He was just on weed.
What he said about Betsy Andreau was bad enough. And she was telling the truth.
Lance is the goat
I learned that Lance forged a birth certificate to be able to compete as a 16 year old, so the moral of the story is:
He's been a CHEATER all his life!!
For me he showed that you don't have to be 5 3 130 to ride a bike fast
I want to see how you feel about the undertaker: last ride docuseries seems pat loves wwe so much
I believe they looked into one tour de france final results to see how far down you needed to find someone ‘’clean’’. Clean in the since of no positive drug test in their career. I think they went down to the 11or 12 placed person with no dirty tests ever.
If by savage, you mean cheater and destroy the life of anyone in the way who wants to do it right, then yes. Savage he is
So the entire core of cyclers are savages. Sure but Lance was the best of em
I’m waiting for Pat to break everything around him with that bat...........
Ppl always forget those couple of years in Aj Hawks early career where he was just a complete boss then he fell off and wound up in Cincinnati
Some people are mad he cheated. Most people are mad because of the lives he ruined in extending his lies. He was the best cheater in a room full of cheaters.
Lance played by the same rules as EVERYBODY else. He was simply better than All of them.
Lance is the greatest cyclist ever PERIOD. It’s the fact that UCI hated the American who was destroying the field who was also cheating and exposing and banning him was the only way to beat him.
We need to see pat in road cycling race
I watched the Greg LeMond 30/30 they showed earlier that day and LeMond tells of an incident in the early 90's where Lance's mom asked him if he could help Lance by not making him be such an asshole. As I was watching it I think Lance came across as being a narcissist, not caring about anyone but himself.
He basically has Jordan's psychotic will and competitiveness in a sport that is one giant feedback loop for that behavior
Bro people need to bring up Kobe when talking abt competitiveness
U oughta watch greg lemonds doc, only american tour de france winner now, he did it clean too. He shouldve had another if his teamate didnt back stab him
Lance was a Champion in every field, even lying
one nut Lance back at it again
Dude even if LA lied about his age.... he was beating Pros in triathlon. It really didnt matter his age.
Stop inhaling that cigar
Ryan Jenkins He’s not inhaling it.
He needed to use EPO. They were all using it. No EPO, no TDF and by that I mean you can't even ride in it in last place.
Is Lance putting cycling on the map again?
It is fair play, and it isn't fair play at the same time... Having "dirt" on people, requires those people to have gotten in the "mud" with you at least *one* time in their past. The more often, and less opposed to getting in the mud you become, the deeper and deeper you sink.
Lance was simply smart enough to swim to the bottom, and eat up ALL the rewards, as more, and more people jumped into the mud-pit.
Its wasn't "fair" because not all the riders were doping
Cadel Evans wasn't a drug cheat, don't know who he was ? he was the 1 clean rider in the top 10 , Lance and his doper buddies stole his prize money his endorsements and more importantly his glory, the fact you don't know who he is , just proves what an arsehole lance Armstrong was, Lances team mates felt so bad about screwing over Cadel Evans , they helped him win the 2011 Tour de France.
“Tom almost had a divorce” what, after running out on his first?
He was never married to Moynihan. He found out she was pregnant shortly after they broke up and was already dating Gisele
Lance has the same mindset MJ does.
Pat mcafee is the only man ill stop wacking it for to turn his videos on. Go vols love you pat
What are we learning from Lance, Michael, Tiger, etc.? You gotta be a jerk and you have step on others to get to the top. In the words of a wise person, "Be careful who you step on getting to the top, they're the same people you'll pass as you fall to the bottom".
The Oprah Got Him--haha haha
Henry cejudo is on that league
Lance tested as positive for HGH as AJ would for Nicotine.
Most everyone one forgets how many lives he ruined. Reputations lost, and every little bit of it for his ego...
Lol it’s bike racing.... anyone who doped their blood did it themselves.
@@michaelw234 but he is still popular
IF HE WAS THE NICEST GUY IN THE WORLD, this never would have happened. All would be forgiven
