Lets be serious here, we all needed The Strokes to drop a new album to make this horrible year a bit better. The world is not the same anymore.

This is definitely a song you need to listen to with headphones to fully hear the beauty in each instrument, especially the bass outro.
Totally agree!
I'm not much of a headphone listener but I tried this song with them and man was it beautiful. Small parts I've never really heard while in the car. The ending instrumental had me very introspective

Lyrics :
Verse 1]
You're not the same anymore
Don’t wanna play that game anymore
You'd make a better window than a door
Oh, the strangers, they implore
It gets so easy to ignore
Just like the girl next door
[Chorus 1]
Uncle's house, it was noon
Sorry, boy, I can’t employ ya
You are strange, but I like you
Sorry, this is overdue
I promised I would do it right
Her and a boy on a Saturday night
[Verse 2]
And now the door slams shut
A child prisoner grows up
To seek his enemy's throat cut
(I'm on and on it, on and on and on it)
We're on the way, fuel the jet
Can see that what he wants, he gets
What does your sworn enemy regret?
[Chorus 2]
I didn't know, I didn't care
I don't even understand
Did somethin' wrong, I wasn’t sure
Stay on top of this, or else
I was afraid, I fucked up
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I couldn’t change, it's too late
Verse 3]
And now it’s time to show up
Late again, I can't grow up
And now it's on me, they've given up
[Chorus 3]
Uncle’s house, I forget
Violent tendencies I get
Your timing sucks, she went overboard
Don't forget, you are insured
I didn't know, I wasn't sure
Can't remember all that well
I couldn't change, was too late
Yeah, yeah, yeah

You’re giving me the feels dude lol 😭
4:08 and on - the MOST BEAUTIFUL ending to a song I have ever heard. Between the guitar, and keyboard (organ or whatever it is), there is just sooooo much damn emotion. Then the sweet and soothing baseline hits, and it’s just pure heaven. Don’t forget that nasty drum line too, those opening high hats into the crash are just gorgeous. Hauntingly beautiful.
Can only agree.
You should listen to ode to the Mets bro it’s ascension level
It's a guitar with tremolo and probably a slapback delay
You forgot that sweet bass
Try Reckoner by Radiohead
This is the best song on the album imho.
Selfless
And Ode to the mets
after listen many times i agree with u
Did you all forget At the door or something?
This song is just a chill generator
Selfless is close to this prob #2 maybe #3
"you make a better window than a door"
Something about that line, when i heard it - it made this album, on it's seventh out of nine songs, so much more important! it might be my hype for my favourite band, just on the second listen of the album, but I'll forever remember my morning jog after quarantine hours listening to this
What do you think those lyrics mean?
In the UK you say 'you'd make a better window than a door' when somebody stands in front of you and blocks your view.
I think he means in the sense of having it/her. Think of it like window shopping, he likes what he sees but he knows he's probably better off not cashing in, which is why he chooses, to want from afar than to actually have it/her?
Or like an aesthetic, good looks from the outside[window] but a piece of hot trash on the inside[door] could be could not be, that's just how I see it.
I interpret it similar to what JAWKNEE said ^ if someone would be better off as a door, then you would enter the door to dive into that person. If someone is better as a window, then you want to glance into their person from afar and not enter
this man obsessed with doors
Never thought they would put out an album that compared to room on fire or is this it ever again
Hate to say it but this is it
They didn’t
@Michael H. true and Room on Fire too imo
I've been so disappointed with music lately that I kept my hopes down for the album even if I loved the singles that had been released, but I am so thankfully surprised
@@MichaelGrey11 The New Abnormal has grown significantly in critical and Dan circles. It’s sitting as the best record of 2020 and the best record of the 2020’s thus far, via tons of critical consensus reviews.
It’s a masterful and Grammy award winning work of genius that is every bit as brilliant as Is this it? and possibly superior.
Julian: sorry, boy, i can't employ ya

Wow. One of the best Strokes songs ever right here.
No doubt
I think it had the potential to be up there but does anyone else find the chorus a bit lazy/dull? Flat beat, kinda boring chords, vocal melody kinda predictable, not much going on with bass or second guitar. Sorry I find the other bits really cool though

I just LOVE Nick's lead guitar line on this one. The guitars ring out so warmly. There's even a part where you can hear him slightly fluff up one of the bends, and it's still in the mix!! Perfectly flawed - the production is just DELICIOUS.

This whole album seemed super heartfelt, like this is what they completely wanted to do instead of making any compromises.
The chorus Wouldn’t sound out of place on room on fire at all
This album came out a week ago and I heard it more than 20 times, some of them in a row.
I feel like it's a modern classic for the strokes or maybe their last huge hit (hope not). I Def think this is the end of this is it trilogy, second being room of fire.

I was 19 when "Is This It" took the world by storm, including myself as an impressionable young man. Now I'm 38 and am not easily moved by music anymore. However, this song (and album) are really hitting me in just the right way, nostalgically, mentally and emotionally. It's really helped my mentality during the COVID era.

Perdón chico, no puedo emplearte
Hice algo mal
No estaba seguro
Mantente al tanto de esto, de lo contrario
Tenía miedo
Lo arruiné, sí
No pude cambiarlo, es demasiado tarde
Y ahora es tiempo de mostrarse
Tarde otra vez, no puedo crecer
Y ahora depende de mí que hayan renunciado
La casa del tío, me olvidé
Consigo tendencias violentas
Tu puntualidad apesta
Ella se fue por la borda
No te olvides que estás asegurado
No lo sabía
No estaba seguro
No puedo recordar eso muy bien
No pude cambiarlo, era demasiado tarde, sí
