- ISRAEL and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire to end the 11-day missile blitz across the Gaza Strip which has left hundreds dead.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced the truce with a statement from his cabinet calling it "mutual and unconditional"
Hamas also confirmed that a "mutual and simultaneous" truce with Israel would begin at 2am on Friday (midnight UK time).
However, others say the two sides are still negotiating exactly when it would take effect.
The agreement - brokered by Egypt - would close the heaviest round of fighting between the bitter enemies since a 50-day war in 2014.
The fighting began May 10, when Hamas militants in Gaza fired long-range rockets toward Jerusalem after clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, a flashpoint site that is known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount.
Heavy-handed police tactics at the compound and the threatened eviction of dozens of Palestinian families by Jewish settlers had inflamed tensions.
Netanyahu's security cabinet approved the truce on the basis of what one official reportedly called "quiet in exchange for quiet".

Thank you for showing the real Gaza after two weeks of bombing, good to see the people back on the streets. I watched some shocking things. you showed what Israel does to Gaza with it's so called mighty force, I have watched over the years as Gaza has got smaller and Israel has got bigger, this has to stop. I stand with the people of Gaza and the Palestinians. Bless you all.
