You are right. We now know that they shared a history in that Ik-jun liked Song-hwa when they were freshman in college. He had bought Song-hwa a birthday present. He may have planned to confess to her as well. But, Seok-hyung beat him to it and got rejected because Song-hwa liked someone else (whom we don't know yet). So, he didn't meet with Song-hwa, gave he birthday present and confessed to her. Recently, we've been shown of their closeness. But, those scenes may warn us not to read too much, instead they may foreshadow that Ik-jun and Song-hwa are not end game.

there is a consistent pattern with this writer-director team though. i think the (guy) that loves the girl first / the childhood friend usually gets together in the end. for instance:
reply97 - yoon jae loved shi won from when they were young, and ends up with her
reply94 - trash oppa loved na jeong for a long time but never showed it until the end - he ends up with her
reply88 - even though they teased jung hwan-deok seon for a long time, it turned out that taek loved her from the very start (when they were little) and also he is the first to acknowledge his feelings.
prison playbook - idk if this counts bc there is no love triangle/guessing game but jae hee loved jun ho from when she was a schoolgirl and they end up together in the end + jae hyuk and ji ho were childhood friends
so i have hope that ik jun - song hwa, who noticed each other from even before the 5 became friends, will be end game!!

I too am his fan. He is a natural actor & understands his craft well. I am catching up with the drama now. His keen sense of observation is reflected here. His action is so like a parent. I have heard quite a few young parents humming nursery rhymes or mimicking some actions. Mine was Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes :D

It's obvious Song Hwa and Ikjun n had a crush on each other when they were younger. IkJun bought her gift and most likely were going to confess to her on her birthday. But his best friend Seok Hyung confessed first, and he don't want to upset his friend, thus throw the gift away and buried his own feeling. (he wouldn't have drunk beer alone and throw the gift away if he took Song Hwa as mere friends). There is some love chemistry in the air too when he gave Song Hwa a hair tie. Song Hwa is either has a crush on IkJun or Ahn Jung Won as she looked at them and purposely followed them out during the orientation camp where they first know each other. But so far there is no interaction between Song Hwa and Jung Wong alone. While there is alot of scene with just Song Hwa and Ik Jun, he gave her the hair tie, IkJun accompany her when she's getting the medical result, Song Hwa helping to wash his face, Song Hwa helping to wrap his fingers into frog finger etc.
So the official love line should be Song Hwa and IkJun. Hehehehhe Imma bet on this ship~~~let it sail~~~~~

I also want them to be endgame. I want to believe that the PD and writer won't troll us this time around. But, so far we haven't been shown whom Song-hwa liked back when they were freshman that she rejected Seok-hyung. As you mentioned, we have seen scenes showing Song-hwa being together with Ik-jun only, but none with Jung-won. However, some fans are very sure that Song-hwa and Jung-won are endgame.

i have theory that Songhwa wrapped the bandage that tight just to spend more time with Ik jun, she even wrapped the fine healthy finger too, just like she spent 5 years to learn bass from Ik jun, there's no way smart intelligent SongHwa would do that if it's not to spend more time around lee Ik Jun, and it's honestly the cutest thing tho
