I love this clip, she comes across as so natural, and Jimmy Fallon`s reaction when she tells him that she really liked him all those years ago, is priceless. His face...when he realises that she would have gone on a Date with him, is a picture.
the reason why i think this interview is so popular is because it doesn't look scripted, i think they genuinely didn't rehearse this story
Jimmy doesn't rehearse the interviews w/ his guests (w/ anybody, really). On this show, a producer is in charge of talking w/ the guest way in advance of the appearance and asks them what's up/what's new/what do they want to talk about/do they have an interesting story? (here, they also ask if they want to play a game or be in a sketch or they think if props are going to be needed). The producer takes notes, does some bullet points for Jimmy and the day of the show they discuss it a bit for Jimmy to know the general idea and be able to steer the discussion in that direction and also, maybe if Jimmy doesn't like a topic they let it go or if he can relate somehow/has a funny story, then they see if it is really needed (guest doesn't have much to say/is the shy type) or they let Jimmy play it by ear.
In this case, Nicole told one of the executive producers about this meeting w/ Jimmy the day of the show (maybe she thought about it during/after the initial call, but had to discuss it w/ her husband so that's why she didn't mention it ahead of time?) and just before Jimmy was going to walk out on stage and do the monologue, the producer came to him and told him Nicole has a story about the two of them meeting, Jimmy sees his producer being excited and he said ''if it's good, don't tell me'', Jimmy sensed the potential and wanted the reactions to be genuine.

@@johnmcsudden3176 The Nicole part he mentioned in some interviews made around that time b/c wherever he went ppl kept asking him about it :))) He didn't brag about his own presence of mind, but I think Howard Stern was interviewing him, and said smth. like ''I've seen you, you have a knack for what works best on these shows and what can make an impact and it was genius of you to restrain yourself and keep it for the tape''.
The part about how the show works, I know b/c I was really into the Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon, they were doing lots more skits, spoofs, parodies & such of very high quality & very well written and they were the first show to have a presence on social media and actually put major work into it. Among the things they would do to interact w/ fans and make a fan base for themselves, they showed lots of behind the scenes stuff - they even had an interactive tour of their floor w/ all their rooms & offices & staff...anyway, I digress, *they also had video w/ a day in the life of Jimmy at the office and explained a bit about how the show works.*
Even at the beginning of the Tonight Show, Jimmy talked about his daily schedule and he has done several live feeds w/ what he indeed rehearses daily in front of a live audience, and that is the monologue and whatever desk piece he has (thank you notes, hashtags). Based on this control group's reaction they may take out some jokes or modify them or tell them in a different order. They do these w/o Higgins b/c he's busy working on SNL, so the interactions you see between him & Jimmy are mostly improvised...I say mostly b/c Higgins does receive cards w/ the jokes as he is getting ready to take the stage and sometimes he may have a few minutes to check them out and think of some puns.
They also kinda rehearse the live skits when they have them, but not for an audience...it's more for them, to make sure that the props set up runs smoothly and everybody knows what they have to do & when & where to go...prop ppl pull the fake walls, furniture & whatnot together, substitute ppl stay where the actors will be (if they don't have the time to be there), lights ppl check to see if the lights are set to land on the important stuff, the camera ppl check out what space they have to work w/, the director gets an idea of what angles he needs and what to focus on & when etc.
And they rehearse stuff like lipsync battle as well, for the same reasons, but here, the guests must really be present to let know the staff what they plan to do and also for themselves to get used to the space they have for the performance...but if it's some kind of contest, then Jimmy doesn't see the guest & the guest doesn't see Jimmy and they don't know the songs etc. :)))
And also the musical guests rehearse their performance.

I have never heard one bad thing about Nicole. Too bad Nicole and Jimmy couldn't have at least dated. But it's a little understandable that Nicole's not going to want to pursue someone who she thinks isn't interest in her.
