  • Bill Gates believes that innovations in technology, medicine, and public health can better the health of the world’s poor within the next 15 years. As our February guest editor, he outlines some of his immediate goals: to halve the number of children who die before age five, reduce the number of mothers who die in childbirth by two-thirds, and eradicate infectious diseases like polio, guinea work, river blindness, and elephantiasis.

      what a joke. do you really think the pharmaceutical industry wants a cure for any disease. Companies like Pepsi, Coke Cola, Kelloggs, KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut advertise junk food to the public and then the doctors give you pharmaceutical medicine.
      millions of people who live in countries like USA, Canada, UK, France and Germany are suffering from diabetes, skin problems, obesity, cancer etc.

      Monsanto isn't the only entity that does RND with GMO's. Don't rope in Monsanto's shady practices with the good scientists who put out great seeds. That's like everyone in Alabama is racist because the KKK exists there.
      Ingo Potrykus developed the Golden Rice Grain in order to combat nutritional deficiency in poorer countries. It proves higher crop yields and requires LESS pesticides to grow.

    I like the optimism of this video, and I like the goals of the organizations involved mentioned here. But it's a bit Pollyannaish to say the diseases mentioned to be eradicated by 2030 will actually be eradicated by 2030. We don't know that'll happen. It's within our power to make it happen, but it doesn't take into consideration some regressive forces that will try to prevent it from happening, be their motivations ignorance or malice. Be realistic. We CAN eradicate those diseases by 2030. We don't know if we'll succeed, yet.

    Metabolic Theory of Septic Shock
    Please do a search for the above
    Core tip: For decades septic shock has been attributed to an over-active immune response. However, immune modulation has failed to reduce mortality, casting doubt on a direct causal role for the immune response in the development of septic shock. A closer look suggests that septic shock is the result of a generalized build-up of hydrogen peroxide, a toxic cellular by-product generated as a consequence of the hypermetabolic state that accompanies a systemic immune response. This finding points to the systemic accumulation of hydrogen peroxide as a significant risk factor for the development of septic and non-septic shock syndromes.

      Don't fall for the overpopulation fallacy, there's room for many many more. All we have to do is demand less for ourselves and not hate those with less. Who needs another gold-plated toilet in their 3rd uber-yacht?

    • @KamZero
      @KamZero 8 년 전 +2

      +Kam Zero by uber-yacht I don't mean a yacht that picks up passengers for a few pennies using a shitty app before anyone asks where they can hitch a ride on a yacht. I mean those disgusting monstrosities so beloved by the uber-rich.

      While saving lives is imperative, more people in these very poor environments means more lives to save. I hope political correctness and white guilt are not stopping his and other foundations from educating and providing Africans with contraceptives.

    • @haruspex1-50
      @haruspex1-50 7 년 전 +4

      The best way to control the population is increase their living conditions. The richer a nation gets the less children on average they start to have. Even places like Saudi Arabia has seen a dramatic fall in children born per family. I think it's two now on average, before it was 5. So education, better living standards, more medicine and crop growth and more opportunities all around will definitely help. With all these things will also see a sharp decline in religious superstition. Again a good thing because where religion ends, philosophy begins. Saudi Arabia has seen a jump in the amount of people renouncing Islam. It's almost 20% of their population and this is in a relatively short period of time. Less dogmatic and problematic beliefs means more dialogue and the chance to make the world more connected and safer. The new issue will be how to manage resources efficiently as there will be a big spike in population before it starts dramatically going down over the next 100-200 years.
