I related a lot to what you said Sam. I’m a mum in New Zealand to a little girl (16 months) - life is all about her, everything else falls to the wayside. I work and parent her simultaneously until she’s 2, so it’s full on for me! So much stress and worry but when she does something weird or funny or smiles at me or calls out “Mum mum Mum” it’s all worth it lol. Thanks for sharing with us, it was touching!

Unreal video guys, I loved every bit of it, what a mature and realistic interview on how parenthood changes people. I'm so glad Sam makes William make his own decisions whether he wants to take pictures or not. That will instil confidence in him, I think. Definitely better than just protecting him against every threat. He will be able to vocalise his needs and establish boundaries from an early age. The sooner, the better.
This interview was so good, it went by like it was 5 minutes long.
Dave, please let Sam know he doesn't need to worry much about the kids' language abilities. I'm from Indonesia and at first I was bilingual since I speak to my family, neighbors, friends, and relatives in my first language, and then as I started school I learned a second language, which is the official, national language. At the same time, I started learning English by myself from TV shows and now I'm pretty fluent in all 3 languages. As do my 2 siblings. So, I bet he's right on track with the kids. Just expose them to the languages as much as possible and they'll do fine.
may I know what are those three languages you are fluent with?
@@yasminmuhsin2487 Javanese, Indonesia, and English. Javanese are also spoken by Suriname people of Javanese ethnicity. It is the language spoken by the people of Java Island, the majority ethnicity in Indonesia.
Bilinguals and multilinguals are very common in Indonesia. In that sense, Indonesia is similar to multi-ethnic/multilingual countries such as India.
@@lucthenerd i see, im more to a multi-language myself. im fluen in malay and english. and im learning arabic and mandarin, at the beginner level. its good to meet a neighbor in youtube comment hahaha ✋

Same here and I think from the interviews I see it's cause on tv they're are asking questions that can give them headlines
i think people who get interviewed in tv tend to be more reserved or careful with their answers cause you know it's tv. i guess sam could also freely answer the questions because he was talking with a friend rather than just some random interviewer

Sam is such a great father. I’m still 22 yo but I admire his parents skills so much, I wish I can become an amazing parent like him someday. William and Bentley are growing into polite and kind boys! Hope you always stay healthy and happy, Sam appa!

Sam is right. Kids take longer to verbalise themselves however after a certain age they do become better to process thing and they are more creative in their understanding and it is more effective that way. I say this as an English teacher living in japan and somebody who is born into a Chinese Cambodian family in Australia. Speak all the languages, as tough as it is. The kids will learn
I swear everything Sam is saying what I want to say to so many parents. Please keep saying this Sam especially with your public image. I hope you can change the minds of many to see the positive of teaching children more than one language

I really enjoy seeing videos like this where Dave has deep and thorough talks no matter the topic. You can tell he just tunes in and pays close attention anytime someone talks about their experiences and sometimes that’s hard to find. Dave is a really good friend and you can tell he cares. I love this channel, I have been watching for a few years now and I can honestly say that I will be watching until he stops making videos. You don’t get too many KRplusrs that are like Dave.
I grew up trilingual. My mother is Japanese, my father is Belgian , but they spoke mainly English or Japanese to eachother. I learned Dutch from my father's side and school, I learned Japanese from my mother's side, and English from both of them and from movies and such. I'm thankfull for my mom to encourage me to speak and learn Japanese when I was a child.
I used to mix them up a lot, now I still speak mixed languages with my mom (since she doesn't mind it) it's very interesting, but I'm gratefull, bec now I am proud of both my cultures, I'm not perfect in either languages, but I'm determined to work on that in the future. I'm sure Bentley and William will feel the same if I see how Sam is Passionate about bilingual households.

Yeah I grew up in California, USA and my mom is Filipina and my dad is Mexican. Growing up, I learned English and Spanish in school because California is mostly English and Spanish speaking. My mom tried to teach me tagalog but she gave up because she thought i was too stupid. I resent her for that but now I'm studying on my own to learn tagalog. Never give up! Languages are beautiful tools.

If you're somehow having troubles with learning, you can somehow ask for my help. As a Filipino, I'd be willing to help anyone who wants to learn the language I grew up with. 💖

When my family moved to America from Japan, my mom did exactly the whole “I only want you to speak this language & ignore this language”
She didn’t want us to struggle in American schools so everyday we were forced to speak only English at the house and not use Japanese
When I asked her about it, she did regret it. She was just trying to look out for us and I think it was more of a survival instinct as a mother. Mom wants the best for her kids.
Dude I agree. Sometimes the circumstances and environment immigrant families are in don’t allow for us to express our culture
My parents immigrated from Korea, but they didn’t make me speak only English at home. So I’m able to speak two languages, but my Korean is probably at a low level. I have some level of understanding the language tho

At the time my mom feared that it would hinder us from learning English if we used Japanese at home. I still have understanding of Japanese as well, but speaking now is a little hard since I forgot a lot of phrases and vocabulary.
If you don’t use it, you lose it.
That's so sad and messed up. People need to know that bilingualism is possible. Why have a child learn only one language when they can learn 2? Do these parents not speak to doctors about this? My parents did something similar where they only speak to me in our mother tongue (Konkani) but not in the other 2 languages they speak (Hindi & Marathi). As a result, I can't speak or really understand them which sucks because they're very commonly used in my country (India) while my mother tongue is not. This means I can't really watch movies or TV shows/serials from my country without English subtitles which totally sucks. I'm still upset at them over this. Learning a language from scratch/by yourself is very difficult but I'm trying. It would have been so much better if I was exposed to those 2 languages more.
