The war has been incited and guess what we’re all invited 😉
Nope. Just stop beings simps. The singer said in an interview that the lyrics are total nonse. Put together with the only intent to provoke and make people talk about it. It's kinda a desperate attempt of how to write....as writing is expression, this song only expresses that someone desperately wanted to be heard.
Very boring. Very typical

Almost 3 years later, this is still one of the most emotionally moving songs I've ever heard. This song is so much bigger than just The 1975. In my opinion, no piece of art before or since has so accurately articulated the anxiety that my generation feels at the current state of the world and the desperate, hopeful desire that we'll survive as a human race. It still moves me to tears every time I stop and let myself fully experience it.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels this way!!❤
thank you so much for this comment
I’ve compared this song to we didn’t start the fire by Billy Joel, an unbelievable representation of how a generation feels
If all of you love this song
Really you should listen "what's going on by martin gaye"
I could not sincerely agree more.
“Modernity has failed us” is such a strong lyric.
Yaretzy garcia true
There is some truth in this but i would add that this is only because modernity was made ill by a disease called capitalism which is the real cause of global extinction.
There is some truth to that idea but it was caused because modernity was infected by a parasite called capitalism.
People need to embrace a hopeful vision of our future on/in this world with technology and modernity used to help save us from global extinction. The only way this will happen will be to totally destroy capitalism and create a new human form of living in our society which is loving & caring & sharing & compassionate and fun and which makes individual human life/rights the most important thing this world has as its most basic politics and the most basic and important human right is the right to life and this means the right to a world which will continue to have life including ours upon it's surface. Greed which is capitalism is inherently anti-world and anti-life. Capitalism is a form of insanity.
@@lisabelamarschild6995 You might actually be insane.
@@lisabelamarschild6995 yes!!! I'm 100% with you and anti-capitalism needs to be discussed more. Song of the decade. This, for me, is like the voice of a generation.
@@cbot375 I'm really sad that we were this close to having him; someone that we can actually feel like is truly good and deserving, who would actually give us the vision of the future that we all thought we were headed towards. Instead, it's 1 step forward and 10 steps back. This isn't the future I (or anyone else) wanted. Imagine that we are in the year 2020 and THIS is what we have; the minimum wage is unlivable, people are committing suicide over medical debt, and we're quaranteed indoors for 2 or more months because our "leaders" didn't care enough about doing something earlier and now we are paying the price. Thousands in the US alone will die. It's just bleak that we are in this circumstance and this unadvanced and unprepared in 2020. Modernity really has failed us.

Thank you Matty for getting clean…for being alive to give us more wonderful music with your bandmates. I’m 70 years old and I’ve seen so many young people die from drugs alcohol and mental illness it’s really sad. Every once in a while there is a success… And Matty that is you. 🙏☺️😉😎💖
Right?? I saw them in Michigan almost 10 yrs ago. Matty was super addicted to heroin, and my $14 ticket at a small club was still a train wreck. I loved them but it was hard to watch. Seeing him in AZ yesterday made me so happy. He faked stumbling and falling because I saw the real thing. It was bitter sweet. I'm so happy he's in a better place! I was worried for like a few seconds then realized it was an act. They literally were just on a black stage with lights in the past, lol. What a different show!
He must be very very proud ❤️ I am catching up, and he is looking so good. So glad he has had such support from his family and best friends xx

I guess since he tweeted out the song with *the words that he actually wrote himself*, it's promotion, but when someone else quotes those words that he wrote, it's relevant to what's going on all of a sudden.

It's a song about uncertainty. And the nature of uncertainty is it can fill with possibility, but those bright futures can burst in a moment leaving you with sorrow. I'd love it if we all made it, and I can imagine a future where we do. But it's not certain. That's the source of the filling and draining feeling.

I feel it too, man. There's no way to not feel angry about that.
and during "I moved on her like a bitch"
It's to emphasise the point. Matty literally has to scream it to get people to understand what is going on in the world.
Its a reference to inmigrants with Kids...
@@yb9302 Yeah I didn't understand what was going on until some guy in a band screamed about it. Yes that is sarcasm. I mean it's great that this song is trying to show displeasure with the state of the world, but come on, if you need someone to write a song about it in order for you do understand how crappy the world is then you are not terribly bright. This is nothing new though, artists have been writing songs about our messed up world for ages.
To all the people making prejudicial comments and accusations about Matty, here's a bit of context. Love it if we made it was written during Trump's presidency (to which the 1975 was not in support of) and some of its lyrics are direct quotes from Trump ("I moved on her like a bitch"). Calling Matty "racist" conflicts the message of this song as he directly addresses the brutality against black men ("suffocate the black men"). As for their live performances, everything is planned.. The band addresses controversial social issues and Matty incorporates them into their performances. The only reason why he's getting hate is because he is one of the few people with the guts to openly highlight these social issues without the sugarcoat.
I wonder if Matt knows that he created a lyrical masterpiece that will transcend himself and be relatable to every generation to come. He may have written this based on the 2016-18 events but as time goes on, this song continues to have new meaning given current events and the changing landscape. May be the best song written in the last 20 years if you ask me.
People saying that this is a lyrical masterpiece need to watch some interviews of the 1975. This song has mediocre lyrics. It's quite far from a masterpiece. It's just so fffing generic that anyone can see something that simply isn't there.....the singer said: they only put lines together of ugly things that are meant to provoke and tied it together with something cheap and cheesy to make it even more provoking. But really...it's ffing basic.

Billy Con My guy are you telling me that racism and the brink of nuclear war is not real?
Billy Con yeah because racism and corruption isnt a thing nowadays
I'd say it's more the modern version of 'The Way It Is' by Bruce Hornsby and the Range. 'We Didn't Start the Fire' is simply a biographical listing of what happened in Billy Joel's lifetime. It doesn't offer meaning other than 'history continues'. That doesn't give Healy the recognition he deserves for this. This song talks about injustice, about social failures to adapt. Like Hornsby, it denounces moderates who pretend the world's destiny is predetermined. Even the double meaning of "Oh, but don't you believe them" is echoed in this song's title. Give it a listen, see what I mean.

Thank you. Thank you for writing songs that stress how fucked up the world has become and we're only getting worse with modernization. It needed to be said.
TakeLifeBack don't even try to generalize what my life is. Most Americans are extremely closed minded people because they think reading about a third world country's woes makes them entitled to belittle everybody else. I'm speaking from a third world country that's so corrupted it drips filth. And 'modernization ' has caused economic crunches and human power crunches where literally every single youth has no future here and has to immigrate out for a future. Ever heard of these terms? And dont accuse me 'cranking up ' something that the middle class of my country can hardly afford.
Not technology, no. But modernization drives powerful people to the top. The political and socioeconomic aspect of modernization is fucking harrowing. Think about that.
TakeLifeBack Thst doesn’t make the “fucked up” any less fucked up. You’re just deflecting but trying to sound intellectual. And so many people are fighting for those don’t have what you just explained which is many places in the world. Everyone has AC apparently and lives happily every day. 🙄
And the world has always been fucked up. I know you mean well. But the farther back in time you go the worse it was for many communities. We’re just going they newer times with more complicated (and some not as complicated obstacles). Things like global warming is def worse of course.
Duck yeah!!!!!
But did they actually do anything about it tho?
This song is such an accurate and moving depiction of the anxiety and terror that the knowledge that our time here on this earth could very well be drawing to an end sooner than we think and the message i feel behind the entire song is that not only do we as the human race have very little time left on this earth because of the damage done to it , but we also face far to many sociological , political and religious fences to climb over before we as a planet can face the fact that our young adults will probably not live to see their elder ages due to the irreversible damage that we as a species have caused
🤣🤣🤣another paranoid enviro cultist that’s drank the climate alarmist kool-aid🤣🙄🙄go back to the drawing board piss-ant, the planet is going to be just fine….Jesus this generation has its head up its own arse. The climate apocalypse is NOT a thing, stop believing all the propaganda or you’ll just become another activist political pawn. Keep your chin up kid, things will get rough, but it’s NOT the end of the world….
Almost every generation has thought/feared this through the centuries. But we’ve muddled through…❤
I agree with you. However I refuse to despair because it’s the one thing I can control and the future- come at be bro!
Just had a moment.
You have the same name as both of my dad's middle names...
This song hits on so many subtle and glaring issues we face. Its a beautiful ballad of brokenness. Since I first heard it til now I can reflect on moments in recent history and my own life were I feel like we and I made it. But it's a continuous uphill battle. Great song!!

Thank you Eric Andre, very cool.
If they wanted to say something very risky/controversial, they should have made a song about Israel VS Palestine.
the fact that people can watch this and not be pissed off by the fact that these problems exist in our world and we're doing nothing to fix them boggles my mind.
I'd donate to the groups at the end but I can't read their names because of youtube ads
It's nice to help with stuff, but no one is obligated to do it

Today is the 24th of February. Modernity has failed us. Once again.
Humanity doesn't deserve the Earth. Land, land, land, land, land, land. We're no different than the dinosaurs.
@@meg-k-waldren We re much worse than the dinosaurs. All they did is feed, eat and sleep for survival. Humans just want power and money.

Don't believe that everybody in the West hates Iranians. We're on one planet and live in one world. Now we have to make it a just world for all.

By far one of my favourite songs these guys have produced..
There is SO MUCH POWER in this one song alone. Straight to the core of everything I am , Everytime.
I absolutely love this video and how brutally honest it was. Thank you so much Matty and crew for helping us become more aware of the truly scary part: ourselves
In an interview, which I thought was quite interesting, he talks about how he hopes listeners see the positive in his messaging because it wasn’t intended to be depressing.

Thanks for keeping the memory of this legend and building him a monument through this song 🙂
This song is amazing, but the music video just elevates it completely. I haven't felt this way about music in a long time. Wow.
