It quite literally is down though, less crimes than decades before. The thing is that social media and news do report on crimes more often and also more and more criminals are unafraid of doing their crimes in broad daylight because the justice system fails to really punish them (something that cops did better in the 70/80's than now). The problem with crime now is that repeat offenders are being released on bail and seeing little to no jailtime.

I have come to the conclusion that many of these crimes aren't about people being mentally ill in the traditional sense - just people feeling like they have the opportunity to do a bad thing and they do it if they believe they can get away with it. Used to come to NYC for business in the past and always tried to stay 1 or 2 extra days - not anymore! Feels like a 3rd world country in some areas, shops boarded up, prices insane, staff missing or totally unqualified, established businesses moving out if they can. Whenever I hear the NY Governor or the NYC Mayor speak, they seem to be totally disconnected from reality...
Repeat a lie enough and people will begin to believe you. The bigger the lie, the easier it is to believe the lie.
They know crime is on the rise .
Maybe some of these New Yorkers are starting to understand where conservatives and/or Trump supporters are coming from. We saw this stuff coming a mile away. We also know it can and will get worse unless people wake up.
