Truth Behind the myth was "playthrouhged" almost a year ago. Fisrt - myth, after that - historical just to try out pure historical experience. However, myth will dominate campaigns and custom battles for me. It`s been about 20 years since age of mythology, and 17 yeasr since rise of nations: rise of legends. So, RTS with mythological units in earth-like, but not warhammer setting, are a few and very old. Troy will take this post for the next decade. Besides, it will be nice to see battles with monsters on the places no too far from my homeland (eastern borders of amazon territory is exactly where I am). P.S. I have seen 3000-years old scythian daggers with gold pictures on them< depicting dragons fought griffins for dominance in the air above Crimean and near-Caucasian steppes. Just a suggestion for future mini-dlc.
Iโll play Historical Mode, assuming it has dynamic and upgradable bodyguards, and other unique mechanics. I donโt want another stripped down Records Mode.

I'm SO glad you all decided to go all in with the mythos angle.
I would throw down SERIOUS money to get a total war game where you had Greeks with their Minotaurs fighting Egyptians with their Sphinx, only for Germanic raiders to come in with their shapeshifting werewolves etc.
Would be beyond epic.

@@francoisbernard4118 I dunno much about traditional Celtic mythology (though I know not much was written down). But I think Kelpies (demonic water horses) are Celtic, and you could probably pull a lot from Irish mythology.

The campaign map really feels like a wild untamed land where around every corner you can encounter a tribe of centaurs or a band of marauders. At least it did in this showcase
As a hardcore history fan I love a good historical mode grounded in pure reality, but also the mythological mode is badass.
What players love the most is options, good job CA!
This will be just like 3K. No proper balancing, the historical mode is just an unbalanced mode. The mythological mode will be the real focus
@@aranighosh3945 3 kingdoms is more like the "truth behind the myth" mode. Let's hope the historical mode works like old school historical total war
@@Milo_Reacher Actually the 3K's records mode did work exactly like historical total war but only the old school fans will enjoy it, while the upcoming mythological mode for Troy is made to attract Warhammer players.
@@ReviveHF Historical mode is kinda pointless, as long as they dont significantly improve the battles. Monsters, magic and ridiculous units are what make those arcade battles fun, but the basic unit interaction is super boring.
Medieval 2, a 15 year old game, has still the most believable and deep melee mechanics in Total War. And its not like the game was even perfect.
The dreams of a fully fledged lotr total war keep getting stronger...

Liking the more light-hearted voice overs of late in the battle reveals.
Looks like they took some aspects that make Warhammer so popular. Cool, unique units instead of just slightly different types of humans everywhere.

Looking forward to seeing how far down the rabbit hole all this Mythological mode stuff goes...I think there's a real opportunity for some great dlc down the pipeline...

@Ian Yoder Yeah, I think they are teasing something like that with the Egyptian gods on the horizon. That going forward may depend on how well this DLC sells, but I think it would retroactively boost sales for the whole game if they make a clear path towards more mythological expansions.
Iโd love to see a โtrails of Odysseusโ campaign line where you have to take on the same task as Odysseus did in the odyssey. Being able to recruit some of the monsters, witches, and nymphs from that story would be awesome.

Spears are anti-infantry in this game.
The Phalanx is an example of it being used historically, alexander used it against everyone then, and it's used like that in pretty much every other total war game.
@@ryandelgaty5793 The Macedonian phalanx is anti-everything. It takes offense at the fact that you are alive and as such, peace was never an option.
@@skyehoeflich55 As they should. Reach is the most important factor in melee combat. Fantasy fans cant cope with the fact 'dwarfs' with hammers and axes would do nothing.
@@zecanas1 which is about as wrong as it can get. As someone who does historical fighting with actual historical weapons for 25 years now, ill tell you: shields and formation are much more important than any range. Go ask the Roman legion about it. They fought with *short swords* (the gladius) in melee (the pilum was mostly used as a javelin). Alexander was only that succesful with his Phalanx because he mostly fought light infantry.
When the Macedonian phalanx later fought the Roman legion with much less melee range they lost pretty much *every single time*
And lastly: who the freaking hell is telling your folks all the time that axes or hammers have to be short? Ever heard of the danu axe? Or the bec de corbin??? If not: Aunty Google has pictures for you!
What fantasy fans will never get is that two handed swords were a short lived experiment in army warfare and survived only in south Germany (the "Landsknecht Doppelsรถldner") for any significant amount of time (with the expetion of Japan of course, which for some reasons never used shields in melee).
I hope we (all players) will be able to bring all characters to custom battles.Also it would be nice to have separate quest battles like in historical titles and warhammer: player chooses legendary lord, and battle against monster begins.

You really have to be a Neanderthal to say no to free games just because the launcher is a bit scuffed lmao. Worst case scenario you can just download a crack for the game so you can launch it without the launcher.

@@marchewa999 I found the radious mod and a few others helped with this, definitely not the best total war but it was I nice change if pace to me, hope they carry the diplomacy forward though, if only they could carry that and everything from the Dei mod for Rome 2 etc forward it'd be the perfect Tw.
@@marchewa999 the only total wars I truly enjoyed were Napoleon and Fall of the samurai. I like guns. I would pay double if they made Empire 2 or a Victorian Era one.

It is actually a pretty solid Total War game in it's own right. Probably a little lighter combat wise, but still fun.

I have to admit it... I'm hype. One of the most interesting time periods (Bronze Age) plus the TW: Age of Mythology I've wanted since I was a kid.

Oh also some good ol' medieval mythology stuff would go well too! I'd really like a Cockatrice, Basilisk or even a Wyvern or Dragon would be pretty awesome too. Buuut I am sad that they seemed to exclude the Chimera in this dlc. I would have actually rather have had that instead of Cerberus, as it would make more sense for someone to actually sort of tame and not a literal god's pet. Oh well still very much looking forward to this!
well there are some Egyptian gods shown in the sky of the new map so they could be a future DLC. I could picture them having their own set of mythological beasts to fight instead of the Greek ones (I could imagine the Egyptians having Ammit as a counterpart to Cerberus)
the Norse and Chinese never really got involved in any Greek stuff as far as I know so it's probably not going to be them

This was needed, Greek myth was legendary! The narrative expeditions are a serious step forward, brutal job.
Truly impressive!
Everything about the monster hunt was exiting! The decisions, the multi stage battles, the quest locations themselves!
I love that thereโs a full quest chain and battle to recruit the best monsters. This convinced me to buy Troy when I get the spare cash for it
The hunting expeditions look neat, but did the army you built via the expedition not actually join the fight? What was the point of those centaurs and such if you replaced them with Hector's army?
I think it was said during the latter part of the vid the hunting party joined as reinforcements. So maybe it's a 40 v 40(60?) match-up? One can only hope.
at 4:47 they mention that the adventurers take up the rear so they are present, the video just seemed to focus more on the main army
Playability definitely increased, yet, how cool would it be if each unit had a naval equivalent ship as their transport in Mediterranean battles.

A part of me wants them to do a mythological mode of Shogun having legendary heroes similar to three kingdom with a improved duel mechanic.
Quests for special and rare world wide unit(s) should also be included in Warhammer.

In campaign no the man minotaur is only available in the mixed campaign maybe they can be used in custom battles

I think this is best version of Troy, give us full blown Greek mythos, including world ending cataclysm campaign quests which can be averted
