If it was any other year, I'd agree that we fucked up not going after Newton.
But Drew Lock went 4-1 as a starter with his only loss coming against the Chiefs in snow.
As soon as Lock stepped into the lineup, the Broncos immediately became a better team, and with every game except for KC, he showed progress and the ability to get it done under adversity.
Lock played so well that he actually elevated the play of his offensive line, Garrett Bolles as any Bronco fan would know is borderline a liability anytime hes on the field, but Bolles went from having a overall grade of 62 something to a massive jump of 83% overall grade when the season ended with Lock.
In short, no. This year, we finally have our QB, we dont need to go out and sign these washed up big name guys. (No offense to Cam)

The key word is 'health'. Nobody is denying that healthy Cam Newton is one of the top NFL qb's. He's had a long recovery but the shoulder injury is the kind that very few come back from without noticeable drop in performance.

Even with the injury concerns, it's a smart play by the Pats. Competitively it *can't* be worse than an utter unknown in Stidham who had a rocky few snaps--for all of one million. Is he being overhyped? Time will tell. I'll say this, though--were it not for covid, this move would definitely sell tickets.
Assuming there are no serious health issues, he's 'just what the doctor ordered'. He's pretty much a perfect fit.

Cam needed another chance to prove he's still a franchise QB even if it significantly reduces his annual salary and Belichick wants to keep his legacy at bay post Tom Brady without giving up a lot, it's a win-win situation. Pretty simple

I think (because of how good he is) Bill had multiple QBs in mind for who he could move forward with. Bill knew there were more QBs then spots on NFL rosters. So his plan was to wait this long so their value essentially goes down. Then he was able to hit up one of his remaining options (I believe his realistic options were Jameis, Cam, Andy Dalton). And he got his wish. Cam on a 1 Year Deal for 7.5M. Cam can either do really good and Bill will make trades to strengthen the team to make a playoff push... or if he's doing alright but playoffs aren't in order this season he can trade Cam to a team who maybe is in the playoff run but loses a qb / having qb struggles. All I know is Bill will win with this signing no matter what. Also you inspired me with your consistency and growth to start my own youtube channel. And I thank you for that 🤞🏼🔥

This is a no risk deal for Patriots. The best offensive line he's had, best coach. Don't look too deep into the late signing. Cam was headed to New England all along. Amazing what can happen when you are injury free.
Remember, too, that they still have to play defense, run the ball, have good offensive line play, and specialty teams. There are many ifs, even with Cam.

The defense will be top ten atleast. Patriots running game will do better than they have in years due to the mobility of CAM. I look for HARRIS to bust onto the scene and miller adds another good back .cam likes his TE:s so we will see who emerges . pats are strong at possession wrs. Harry and byrd will get every opportunity to succeed. This team should win the east as usual. A strong defense with a strong running game plays well in december a home victory in the wildcard round puts them in the divisional playoffs. Anything could happen from there

The Colts went with Rivers because of his relationship with Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni. They were both his coaches in San Diego and ran basically the same offense. Less for him to re-learn and makes the transition easier. Not to mention, no one knew if Cam was going to be healthy?
The Patriots reached out to Cam and his people at the beginning of Free Agency to find out what his number was...it came back a bit too high so they waited. They wanted Cam all along, but they weren't going to hand him some huge contract, that's not how they operate. They waited until all the suckers made their moves and it just so happened none of them even considered Cam, which worked out even better for the Pats numbers-wise. Now they have a relatively young, hungry, immensely talented QB on their hands who's eager to play, prove himself and has a bone to pick with ever other team in the league. I'd call that a win...that's the only "REAL REASON" the Patriots organization makes all of the moves it makes, including this one....to win.

I can understand Jacksonville not grabbing him. They have an interesting talent in Gardner Minshew and if he doesn't work out they'll likely have Lawrence or Fields next season. Colts I can understand too as Phillip Rivers is a very good and healthy qb. He provides much more stability at the qb position than Cam would have. It's the Bears and Chargers I don't understand.
As a Panthers fan the way I see it is if we signed him it would have to be a giant contract knowing what he did in the past but with the injuries and the lack luster comp% it was hard to sign him so I'm ok with the Panthers letting him go but now with a full season off and a ton of rehab I think cam got the BIGGEST chip on his shoulder to prove himself and I wish him well but I just hope we don't have to face him in the Superbowl because I think he lights us up if it came down to it.

TPS needs to do better research. The Patriots did not have 'Plenty of Salary Cap to throw around.' In fact, prior to the settlement credit they got yesterday, they were dead last in available Cap. Even with this credit, they are still in the #27 position for available Cap.
