Syndrome was soooooo much more brutal and cunning of a villain than any of us realized when we first watched this as kids. Systematic murder just to get back at one man for denying him a role as sidekick. Pixar went unapologetically dark here and I love it.

We get treated in the first 10 minutes to a couple having a miscarriage, the wife getting so weak from age and disease that she collapses trying to climb a hill she was able to climb on a regular basis, and then dying on her husband's arms and leaving him a book of memories, and him being all alone in her funeral only with balloons as his company. In the next 10 minutes, our grief stricken old man is threatened to be evicted, slapped with an assault charge over legit property protection and informed he would be sent forcefully to a nursing home, making him literally uproot his house and flee to the jungles of f**king Brazil. And finally the villain is so obsessed with his pray he's willing to kill one of the few men who actually remember him over the bird, when our hero doesn't even want the bird. And it being the first Pixar film to show blood for more than two frames (I know the Omnidroid cuts Mr. Incredible in their fight but the cut is seen for about a frame and we don't see the wound, just the hole in the suit) and show gun violence as well... I loved Up, but it did earn the PG rating rather than just G.
The sigh of relief and his expression when discovering Syndrome doesnt know of his wife's location is such a huge acknowledgement of how dangerous Syndrome really is.
Yeeep. I also found it very touching that as soon as Bob realizes what's happening his first instinct is to check to see whether Syndrome knows where his wife is (followed by his best friend.)
Imagine how Bob felt when he was captured, and knew Syndrome would go after his best friend, all while his wife and kids were all in Syndrome’s crossfire because of the homing signal
Mirage was searching for Frozone at the beginning of the film but when she found him with Mr Incredible during the fire incident she chose to switch targets. The Omnidroid X8 version had extreme temperature resistence so Frozone would surely have been killed by it if Mr Incredible hadnt taken his place.
These people were his friends. Imagine not being in contact with your friends for 15 years only to find out that they were all systematically murdered by a single person
It’s crazy that Frozone was actually the next one who was going to be killed. It’s why his location is marked as “KNOWN” and it’s why Mirage was spying on them in the car earlier on in the movie before she decided to switch targets. Knowing he can’t use his powers when there’s no water in the air… and the fact that the Omnidroid purposefully tried to push Mr. Incredible into lava… it kind of gives that earlier fight a bit of a dark context.
Yeah if Frozone was the one to fight that Omnidroid he definitely would have died. Makes you wonder if the other Superheroes were forced into a situation where the Omnidroid put them in a similar state to where they are powerless to defend themselves.
Yep. Syndrome moved on to Phase 2 the moment his Omnidroid could beat Mr. Incredible. That was the point of Phase 1--going through Supers and evolving his robot enough to outmatch him specifically. Frozone would've been next on the chopping block if he hadn't dragged Mr. Incredible along with him for "Bowling Night".

This is by far Pixar’s darkest scene, as a kid you don’t really fully comprehend it, but as an adult, it slams into you like a freight train. The realization that Syndrome had every superhero lured onto his island, one by one, so he can build the perfect droid. One by one, they came to the island, lured by the same offer that was fed to Mr. Incredible, a chance to relive the glories of being a superhero and make good bank on the side. Only to be killed by Syndrome’s Prototypes. If the hero survived and destroyed the prototype, they were then killed by a more adapted and deadlier prototype. It really hits you hard, despite that ridiculous looking outfit and hairdo, you really come to reality with how much a total psychopath Syndrome is. He murdered dozens of some of the best superheroes, all because he wanted to build the perfect weapon that nobody could stop (except him remotely) and make sure the world would never need supers again.
Kids probably understand the gist of it (I did) but I didn't feel the same weight of that impact till now, didn't even occur to me when I was young that Mr.Incredible was probably close at one point to many of the deceased
@@thebdsyt Animators like to add adult or dark scenes to kids movies all the times. It's not that important to the whole plot, so it's fine if kids don't understand the essence of it. But it's also a fun easter egg to look back to years after, when said kids have already grown.
To tell you the truth it’s his own fault that he couldn’t become a sidekick to Mr. incredible. It’s never really told at all in the movie but the reason why Mr. incredible rejected him is because of the fact that Syndrome lacks the true meaning about what being a superhero really is. He thinks being a superhero is all about wearing cool costumes and beating people up when the reality and real meaning of it which he lacks is about protecting innocent people and bringing criminals to justice.
The darkest part of this scene is the fact that everytime a super managed to destroy a omnidroid, Syndrome* made sure that the next version can kill that super and continue its killing spree...
As a kid, I didn't realize Gazerbeam was the skeleton in the cave. I thought it was one of Syndrome's goons abandoned in the cave, left to starve and die off, or die from wounds from a rogue test from his robot tests. Since I learned that, and how many heros he actually killed, it changed the whole context of how evil and sadistic Syndrome actually was. Killing off all the supers on that line island. Also you will figure out that Gazerbeam was the first to infiltrate Syndrome's HQ. He discovered the code "Kronos" and wrote it on the cave wall just before he died from his wounds. Gazerbeam was systematically assassinated, and found out.
Fun fact: There is a half an hour video of all the heroes taking interviews, voice acting and everything. They all had mini groups and beefs among each other just like a normal group of coworkers. Makes this scene all the more chilling. PIXAR is really on a different level when it comes to storytelling.

As a kid I didn't realize how bad this was but now I realize Mr. Incredible probably knew all those heroes that died. They were all probably his old friends.
You can see the shock and sadness Mr. Incredible feels when he learns that the supers were being killed off one by one this whole time. They weren’t strangers to him or simple acquaintances. They were his FRIENDS. A good number of them attended his wedding. They KNEW his and Helen’s secret identities and vice versa. Truly one of the most (if not the most) dark moments in Pixar movie history.
The moment when you realize that, once you strip away the whole supervillain thing, once you look past the fancy gadgets and killer robots, Syndrome is basically a goddamn serial killer. He systematically targets a certain group of individuals, stalks them through whatever means he has available, lures them in with false hope, and then straight-up murders them. All the while self-justifying it to himself because of his perceived “slight”, because of one bad incident that happened to him as a kid that he’s more at fault for than he’ll ever admit. He tries to play it off as him being the sympathetic one, as him doing the right thing in his eyes, because he feels entitled towards “revenge”. He truly is Pixar’s darkest villain, when you get down to it.
Devlin the periodic dominator well in the very beginning of the movie when buddy was a kid he said Mr incredible took away his future, which probably haunted him for the rest of his life growing up, because mr incredible wasn't letting him be what Mr incredible was when he was young.

He looked legitimately heartbroken when he saw Gamma Jack died.,You can tell from the picture that he was one of the young ones, and popular too. A radioactive man, just missing out on the golden age of heroes. He probably learned from Mr Incredible, then was retired as all heroes were. It’s regret over regret over regret with this scene.
In one of the deleted scenes it's shown that Bob, frozone and gamma jack used to hangout togather. They were the ones that got gazerbeam into being a supe, so it went from Bob finding out that one out of his 3 best friends dying (gazerbeam) to two (gamma jack) with only frozone left. It might be a coincidence but jack jacks name could be from gamma jack
I think he was also one of the most powerful next to Mr. Incredible. I may be wrong but the first omnidroid Mr. Incredible fought was the one that killed Gamma Jack and went undefeated until Mr. Incredible destroyed it
@@MenagerieOfMadness501 in the top right corner is a "threat rating" for every Hero. Gamma Jack had a 7.9 which was the highest that we could see (aside from Mr.Incredible with 9.1) so Syndrome did consider him to be quite dangerous
Another interesting think about Syndrome is that he was perfectly fine with killing off Mr Incredible without explaining his evil plan or even revealing himself. It’s only after his former hero defeated one of the omnidroids and faked his death that he became so impressed he had to confront him.
To be fair I think syndrome knew that Mr incredible would win the fight, considering he waited for him specifically to be the last to fight the omnidroids.

It would've made the actions of Syndrome feel that much more atrocious had Frozone disappeared before Mr. Incredible went to the island only to find out he was recently killed... We don't really know the other heroes so them being dead didn't feel very impactful.

Not just him, but the government had failed to properly protect these hero’s. They banned them from working which made them desperate to get back the feeling Mr. Incredible had when working again. Syndrome knew this and exploited them for his own gain.
The fact that we don't see how they die but they just have a big "terminated" over their picture is hauting. And the fact Syndrome created all these machines just makes him such a dangerous villain.
This scene is absolutely brilliant. As a kid this just blows straight past your head but as a teen or adult you see just how horrifying it really is. The score in the background slowly building up as he finds out the truth is immaculate. This my friends, is how you do death in a pg movie. 10/10 scene.
Actually, Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe has an insane kill count, over 150 (source: Carnage Count) if I'm correct. They balanced it out with little or no blood.
Angel of Sarcasm There’s some heavy carnage count in the Original Trilogy Of Star Wars (it was rated PG at the time), with people dying on the Death Stars 1 and 2, the Battle Of Hoth, Alderaan, and during the Battle Of Endor (Space Battle).

I like how the noises represent how really sadistic Syndrome was, when someone was terminated it made a positive/valid chirp, as if the progressive of it made the situation bright to him. And when it reveals that elastigirl’s location was unknown it made a low buzz. simulating his frustration when he didn’t get his way
This scene was truly something else. While thrown into a child's movie, it's something not only the parents could watch and see for what it truly was, it's something we could watch again later in life and understand how dark it ACTUALLY was.
Yeah, as a kid you just know Syndrome is really bad. As an Adult you realize that this is the trophy wall of a serial killer who see himself as the hero.
I remember not getting this scene as a kid. My sister had to explain to me how sad it was because it was saying Syndrome killed all those supers by testing his robots on them, honing his craft until he had the right machine to kill Mr. incredible. It's super fucked up. Syndrome might have one of the highest kill counts of any Disney or Pixar villain.
Tombocartoons I was about 10 when this came out and was a little clued in, but didn't fully get it until a few years later. But even at 10 I understood that this was not good, that Syndrome had done horrible things to people. This movie is so well balanced in themes.
As a child I used to just think of these as a "oh, they were defeated" But when I rewatched it as a teen, I literally let out a gasp. Considering how Bob himself struggled to fight the robot, I could only imagine how much torture those heroes went through, specially considering how the machine was literally about to slowly rip Bob in half and slice him to death. It leaves so much horror to the imagination and even worse, you come to understand his deep loathing for heroes was strong enough for him to build these huge robots, find the secret identities of all these heroes, and lure them into his island just to enjoy watching them get mercilessly killed. He's killed around 20 heroes and he seems to be in his late 20s-early 30s. Imagine how much of a menace he could've been had he lived longer.
Now I see why he had to be killed! This man have the mind of a genius and all he wanted to do was destroy super heroes. Most were of old age maybe that’s why their powers weren’t strong enough to defeat whatever bots he made and Syndrome knew that, have Mirage to sweet talk them and they never met Syndrome. So they could never find out if he was genuine or not to these super heroes.

Blazestone's death is hella ironic if you read the Elastigirl Prequel Novel. She tried to kill off all the Supers only to get killed off herself in someone else's attempt to kill off all the Supers.
Honestly, This scene as a kid makes it look like the heroes were beaten and you're just sitting there confused not understanding but as an adult you understand that Syndrome was a psychopath who *KILLED* almost all of the heroes over the years while being undetected until Kronos discovered and gave Mr Incredible a chance to find out the more horrifying truth about the kid who once believed in superheroes..
You don't really notice how unsettling this scene is until you watch it as an adult. Cause as a kid you don't really notice the impacts of certain movie scenes, you're more focused on seeing the action. But now you watch this and realize how messed up this is. I mean Mr. Incredible was like the best hero, he never stopped wanting to be a hero and save people even after being forced to go into hiding. And he just figured that all the big bad villains left after that as well. But now he's seeing that this dude had been killing off other heroes for years. All those years he has been raising his kids and having a family, while his friends, former heroes were being hunted and slaughtered by a bad guy that he didn't even know he created. It's ironic, the dude who wanted to save people the most unknowingly caused the deaths of multiple former heroes.

I kinda did. I was ten when this movie came out and as someone who grew up on horror movies i was pretty clued in on death. That said, it was still a very dark scene for me, and i genuinely felt the same dread and pain mr incredible was feeling. Still do actually. This scene is great.
What's worse, you realize that the biggest thing that kept them hidden was the fact that they had to move dozens of times because Bob was so bad at his jobs. They only found him because he was with Frozone, who they were tracking at the time.
It's even more twisted when you realize Syndrome _watched_ each of these heroes die, via the robotic birds throughout the island (assuming each scenario was the same as Mr. Incredible's).

I always believe he tricked all the heroes the same way he did with Mr. Incredible in order to test his strong omnidroids, but also to kill them because he had this crazy grudge against every hero for Mr. Incredible rejecting him years before. What actually amazed me is that this kid managed to build such powerful robots but also hide himself and the corpses from police once he had the heroes come to his island.
I quite like the touch that the employee on the phone states that his employment was "terminated" and then it switches to the heroes being labelled "terminated".
Shoutout to Macroburst, Downburst, Hypershock, Gazerbeam and Gamma Jack for being the only ones besides the Incredibles/Frozone to take out an Omnidroid.
Everytime they took one down, I bet you Syndrome designed the next one specifically to take out whoever took down the first one. Man, this is by far the darkest part of the movie.
The music, the dark themes of genocide, and the claustrophobia at the end... what a tense scene! Always loved it as a kid but now as an adult I appreciate the level of detail and passion that went into making this film.
Bro Gazerbeam carved the password of the computer into the wall as a final act. Fifteen years before this shit happened. That's such a huge detail in a kids movie

To make matters worse is when it shows gaser beams face, they briefly mention him before this scene so you know he was a close freind of frozone and mr incredible, to think they lost contact with these supers, not becuase of how much they moved or grew up but they lost contact with all these supers becuase they were murdered and no one had any idea. Its a really dark scene and the more you think about it the more things make sense as too why Mr incredible only seems to have one friend.
Probably the only two he didn't see on the list of murdered heroes. We know that he noticed Gazerbeam's disappearance, maybe he noticed the others too only for this to be thrown in his face. I think Gazerbeam was actually in the front row at the wedding too, so that's probably why they used him.
The terminated scene might be chilling, but the phone call also is so spine chilling. Watching a woman find out her husbands lies to find out he’s more then certainly in danger must be a terrifying ordeal.
This was probably the darkest scene in all the movies. Not only did Syndrome kill off pretty much every hero in the world, but Bob probably knew most of these people, like he did with Frozone. These people we're his friends, and Syndrome killed them all.
What makes this scene even more intense is the fact that during the glorious days, the superheroes were probably used to fight a lot of super villains. They faced a lot of great opponents but always managed to defeat them... And now you have an ordinary boy who possesses only a great intelligence but was still able to kill every single of those heroes by creating powerful technology. Who can blame Syndrome for having so much confidence after that? But that proves how dangerous and terrifying he is as a villain.
But this scene also shows that actions have consequences. Mr. Incredible kept rejecting Syndrome, which made him snap and started murdering superheroes in secret and worse part is no one, not even their family members are aware that they died and no one even bothered looking for them. No private investigators, no search parties, nothing.
Jalen Ellis actually people were looking for them because on the news paper frozone and me incredible was reading it showed a guy in a suit they recognized as gazerbeam since he went to bobs wedding and on the cover it said the man was missing so it’s not like they didn’t search for the missing supers it’s because they couldn’t find him with lack of evidence because they probably didn’t tell anyone about the island and the only evidence of the islands details was the tablet which self destructs after you use it so yeah.
《 Woozee 》 yea there was a reason for all the high tech at the beginning and detail, how it was delivered, all that to, if anyone who looked in to tell people just how difficult it would take for someone to realise. I mean look at elastagirl, it took what. Two months? To realise his husband wasn’t actually said where? That probably happened for everyone else, but didn’t get as far as Mr Incredible so they just would’ve been killed off in a far away battle field with no chance to find them. But then again, I’m guessing they just declared them dead? Yes they were dead but guess the news just went on to assume once they couldn’t find them.
I think everyone underestimates him even after his death he still has technology on the island which if someone else got a hold of could really screw alot up it's like as long as the world evolved the more likely the chances of heroes losing becomes especially if they stay in retirement for many years, and you gotta respect the justice League and avengers as this could happen to them on any day it's mad to think That but... Well look what happened here all because of one boy
For people that had the DVD of the Incredibles will know that there was a bonus feature that actually had details such as powers and personality and audio files of all the superheroes. Once you read and listen to all the audio files, you get a sense of what they were like and a little bit of their backstory and realize that they’re all dead.
Can we literally give Gazerbeam some creds here? He’s the only one who destroyed TWO robots, he left Bob the password, and his secret identity is being a lawyer for superhero rights. WE NEED A PREQUEL SO WE CAN SEE MORE OF GAZERBEAM
The real genius of this scene is instead of showing a flashback of the heroes’ death, the audience had to imagine what and how it happened, which added a lot to the horror.
Honestly, it's a practice I wish more people would refer to. The tell/don't show approach can sometimes be more powerful than a flash back simply because it plays with your imagination. It's why I think the best horror movie monsters are the ones where, at best, you get a glance at a part or two and let your imagination fill in the rest. Your brain can potentially come up with scarier images than any sort of cgi or practical effect (not to say some haven't been great) ever could.
One of Disney/Pixar’s darkest moments. Seeing all the superheroes killed off by Syndrome’s Omnidroids was really dark. More than just an evil supervillain, Syndrome is way out of his head. Killing off real superheroes whose responsibility is use their powers to help people, so he can pretend to be one for fame and glory. Lame but evil.
Imagine the pain of having to search up your friends only to find out they're dead all because you rejected an obsessive fanboy who just wanted to be your sidekick.
Man I remember seeing this scene and then remembering that frozone saying he doesnt see some of the people he used to know anymore in the earlier act...
The music slowly getting louder and more dramatic as more and more supers appear with *TERMINATED* across them on the screen is what makes this scene so dark and so epic to me. It really highlights just how dark Syndrome as a villain truly was. The Incredibles is a timeless masterpiece.
And Helen mistakenly believes that her husband is cheating on her while he actually checks out if Syndrome is targeting her as well and was relieved to see he didn't even know her location

Theres not reason for her to think that he was doing super hero activities because thats ilegal and he lie to her about his job and made her think that he was being very succecful in it, the she heards the female voice on the Phone and Bob acts suspicious and then she founds out that everything he has been doing is a lie.
No one is mentioning it, but if you pause the video and take the time to read the information about the heros and the omnidroids, you'll notice that some heroes had really incredible and mighty powers, while reading I was like "How did a robot manage to kill a guy/girl with that power?". That helps to understand the real power of an omnidroid and Syndrome's genius level intellect.

According to a later scene, Mr. Incredible was snooping around at 11:07pm that night. The countdown he accesses shows that the rocket will launch in 8 hours, 10 minutes and 42 seconds, meaning that Syndrome for some reason thought "Man, I should launch this thing at precisely 7:18am for no apparent reason."
Syndrome considered the development of the Omnidroid to be complete and immediately went ahead in deploying it once Mr. Incredible was “terminated.” He started the process of the launch the moment he logged his supposed success in defeating his hero. The countdown was set in place so his business would be prepared for the launch, like a NASA launch. It takes a while to get everything in place, including getting the Omnidroid in the rocket, and acquire all the data needed for a rocket launch. It didn’t need to be at any specific time because Syndrome was operating on a dynamic, self-propelled schedule.
The comment is pretty funny, but my guess is that Syndrome likely calculated how fast it would be to get the rocket over to the mainland and set a certain destination time (possibly 8 or 9 am on the dot), so a rocket that took about 42 minutes (or 1 hr 42 mins) should leave at 7:18 am. He probably chose that time since it’s a round number, but also that’s around when a ton of people start showing up in the city after they’re awake for the most eyeballs on his stunt.
You don’t realise how in depth and sadistic syndrome is when you’re a child watching this. He literally lured and killed superheroes while playing on their emotions. Any times his robots got defeated he upgraded it and then kills them without remorse. Such a crazy character.
parent to child about the meaning of terminate: its means their unemployed and can no longer work as super heroes cause they were unable to do a good job of protecting themselves. Child: ok. They probably should have never been heroes then.
The cuts between Bob and Helen here are very well done! The lady on the phone says that Bob's employment at Insuricare was terminated two months earlier and Helen finally realising the truth, then we immediately cut to Bob seeing the word "TERMINATED" on screen over and over, also finally realising the truth! Now Bob's location is completely unknown to Helen and Edna gives her a chance to change that with the homing device, then we immediately cut to Bob searching for Helen in the computer only to find that her location is unknown!
This scene resonates a lot more once you rewatch it as an adult. These were people he knew for several years and by one person they were executed. The fear amplifies when it comes to the safety of his family and Frozone. The tension in this scene is done so well it’s amazing.
God when the sequel came out i was clearly disappointed because it was too light like marvel.... but the first the movie the tone was a bit mixed and i liked it...
I love the lighthearted tone of the second one, it’s still delivered its message from the movie, at least it’s not becoming too childish like some animations, but yeah the first one still amazed me more
This one scene literally made The Incredibles a classic.. I just love that they don't shy away with their situation the family gets themselves into. Like when Helen talks to her kids, she doesn't baby them. She says that they will literally die if they aren't careful and that makes the stakes even better. I need more aninamted movies with some borderline reality mixed in like this film ❤
Syndrome has got to be one of my all time favorite villains. Without any powers, and a pure fuming disdain for heroes after his idol kicked him to the curb for his own good, he worked to systematically killed every retired hero with the goal of taking revenge on Mr. Incredible himself, the one that started him on his path. To ultimately destroy the idea of what superheroes were and will ever be. Great characterization and writing.
Seeing the hero's picture with "TERMINATED" over it is so much more affecting than seeing the heroes actually die, it leaves so much to the imagination, that with the music, unironically cinema
When it doesn't show any deaths it gives you this image of the heroes truly not being a challenge, to Syndrome these heroes dying is just a process a methodical genocide of which nothing is truly an obstacle, they don't show the fights because it gives you this image of a mass killing with almost zero remorse or chance of showing the heroes succeed in any of the fights.
Let's just stop for a moment and give Gazerbeam credit it was badass of him to infiltrate the location of Syndrome's weaponry and the first to discover KRONOS and keep in mind his only power was to fire lasers that's it. He was also an activist of superhero rights as a civilian he wouldn't side with anyone against his fellow supers like that. He was hardly onscreen and made it far enough for Bob to take action. His death brought back heroism.

This movie is pretty dark when you think about it. Luring the supers out to the middle of nowhere, especially picking ones they knew missed being active superheroes (which was probably most all of them. Even Helen probably missed it, but she had other things she wanted to put first, like her family), and killing them off one by one just so a kid who senpai didn't notice could prove a point and live out his fantasy. Honestly if this movie wasn't for kids or had super heroes I'm pretty sure Buddy would've become a serial killer...
Syndrome was definitely a psychopath. He committed genocide on the supers, was willing to let Mr. Incredible snap his assistant in half, blew up an airplane that was carrying a woman and 2 children, attacked a city just so he can show off, and also kidnapped a baby. He was a psycho.
That's why they didn't know where Helen was because she didn't use her powers outside of the home like Frozone and Mr. Incredible did. She was being smart about it and heavily chastised her children and husband for doing so because it put them at risk.
There is a theory that Edna Modes designed Syndromes suit but she also knew he was the one who killed all of her friends so she made his suit have a Cape cause she knew capes were unsafe.
The fact that even with *SUPER STRENGTH* Bob had to pull real hard to get that first blob off and then couldn’t even escape makes me wonder what the hell they were made of
I love how Bob prioritized searching for his wife first, then his friend, then himself. That’s when you know he’s a legitimate good guy who thinks of others first before him.
The name of Operation Kronos fits so well too. Syndrome sends a Titan to terrorize the populace, and casts it down himself so they see him as the ultimate hero, like Zeus became king of the gods by killing Kronos. There might also be something about killing your father wrapped up in there (or father figure, in the case of Mr. Incredible.)
Gideon Han Scary thing is, he was the original target. When we first see Mirage in her car talking on the phone she refers to Mr. Incredible as "The fat guy" implying that she doesn't know who he is. It's only when she sees him react so happily to the police scanner that she knows it's him and switches targets....Frozone would've been next on buddy's list but was saved by pure luck.
Andrés Pétur Axelsson I'm not so sure. I really think that Lucius (Frozone) would have figured out how to beat the Omnidroid on his first "mission" like Bob did. That would actually make a very interesting AU, seeing the events of the film play out differently, especially with Frozone sweet-talking Mirage into letting Bob join on the missions, Syndrome being absolutely ecstatic at the chance to slay two Supers at once, and the rest of the film is Bob and Lucius sneaking their way around Nomanisan while Helen and the kids rush to their rescue.
What I love about this scene is that, at the beginning, you feel like Mr Incredible is the one in control. He has the super powers. He's finally discovering the truth. There is a big gap between Mr Incredible power and his enemy's. Then the video starts playing. One super hero defeated at time, you can physically see the gap getting smaller and smaller, and the villain grow stronger and stronger. Our hero is no longer the most powerful. He is in danger.
That's true. Mr. Incredible and the viewers have now realized the true extent of Syndrome's goals, and now Mr. Incredible has realised just how much danger he and his family are in.

Fun fact: the reason they know Frozone's location is because he was actually Syndrome's next target, it wasn't until Mirage realized he was with Mr Incredible at the beginning of the film that they switched targets.

I didn't understand what was happening here when I was a kid. I thought it was just listing that all of the supers that died over the years, not that they were *all killed by Syndrome*
Syndrome is actually one of the most brilliant villains....in all of fiction.... He's just a normal guy who made machines that were capable of killing supers. And not only was he capable, he actually did. All of them. Every. Single. One. His doing.
Has anyone noticed the amount of detail in these few brief glimpses they did? Every hero had a summary of their powers. Every prototype had a list of their abilities. This was a kid's movie and the amount of forethought and detail put into this is not shy of, not to pun but incredible!
This was why I LOVED Pixar movies; while catered towards children, were smart enough to entice grown ups. The same could be said for Avatar: TLA, a show made for kids but with themes meant for Adults. It ensures that both audiences could enjoy the movie/show.
It is amazing. I did get a little disappointed that there is hero’s photos are just mirrored at 1:31, you can’t really see much as the camera only just shows the screen but it’s copied from previous hero’s just switched the name
Crazy how you don’t realize the significance of this pivotal scene when you’re 5 years old and years later you realize what it meant. Gives the scene a much darker and creepier feeling.
Same with me, I swear the music only made the chills worse. And another thing I'd like to point out for things we don't realize when we were kids: the climactic fight in Tarzan. After Clayton falls after cutting the vines, our eyes follow the knife and Tarzan, not the silhouette of a hanged Clayton...

As a kid, I couldn't comprehend anything else other than that they lost their fights. Uhuh. As an adult, I'm watching a man discover the genocide of his colleagues, and probably close friends. It strangely reminds me of people turning on their TVs to see their loved ones' names appear on the news, in lists of victims or missing people.
It would be terrifying, imagine listening to the news and all of a sudden you hear that someone very close to you is dead, mr incredible had to find out tons of people he knew, some who even attended his wedding, are dead.

Syndrome was soooooo much more brutal and cunning of a villain than any of us realized when we first watched this as kids. Systematic murder just to get back at one man for denying him a role as sidekick. Pixar went unapologetically dark here and I love it.

We get treated in the first 10 minutes to a couple having a miscarriage, the wife getting so weak from age and disease that she collapses trying to climb a hill she was able to climb on a regular basis, and then dying on her husband's arms and leaving him a book of memories, and him being all alone in her funeral only with balloons as his company. In the next 10 minutes, our grief stricken old man is threatened to be evicted, slapped with an assault charge over legit property protection and informed he would be sent forcefully to a nursing home, making him literally uproot his house and flee to the jungles of f**king Brazil. And finally the villain is so obsessed with his pray he's willing to kill one of the few men who actually remember him over the bird, when our hero doesn't even want the bird. And it being the first Pixar film to show blood for more than two frames (I know the Omnidroid cuts Mr. Incredible in their fight but the cut is seen for about a frame and we don't see the wound, just the hole in the suit) and show gun violence as well... I loved Up, but it did earn the PG rating rather than just G.

The sigh of relief and his expression when discovering Syndrome doesnt know of his wife's location is such a huge acknowledgement of how dangerous Syndrome really is.
Yeeep. I also found it very touching that as soon as Bob realizes what's happening his first instinct is to check to see whether Syndrome knows where his wife is (followed by his best friend.)
Imagine how Bob felt when he was captured, and knew Syndrome would go after his best friend, all while his wife and kids were all in Syndrome’s crossfire because of the homing signal

Mirage was searching for Frozone at the beginning of the film but when she found him with Mr Incredible during the fire incident she chose to switch targets.
The Omnidroid X8 version had extreme temperature resistence so Frozone would surely have been killed by it if Mr Incredible hadnt taken his place.
These people were his friends. Imagine not being in contact with your friends for 15 years only to find out that they were all systematically murdered by a single person

It’s crazy that Frozone was actually the next one who was going to be killed. It’s why his location is marked as “KNOWN” and it’s why Mirage was spying on them in the car earlier on in the movie before she decided to switch targets.
Knowing he can’t use his powers when there’s no water in the air… and the fact that the Omnidroid purposefully tried to push Mr. Incredible into lava… it kind of gives that earlier fight a bit of a dark context.
Yeah if Frozone was the one to fight that Omnidroid he definitely would have died.
Makes you wonder if the other Superheroes were forced into a situation where the Omnidroid put them in a similar state to where they are powerless to defend themselves.

Yep. Syndrome moved on to Phase 2 the moment his Omnidroid could beat Mr. Incredible. That was the point of Phase 1--going through Supers and evolving his robot enough to outmatch him specifically. Frozone would've been next on the chopping block if he hadn't dragged Mr. Incredible along with him for "Bowling Night".

This is by far Pixar’s darkest scene, as a kid you don’t really fully comprehend it, but as an adult, it slams into you like a freight train. The realization that Syndrome had every superhero lured onto his island, one by one, so he can build the perfect droid.
One by one, they came to the island, lured by the same offer that was fed to Mr. Incredible, a chance to relive the glories of being a superhero and make good bank on the side. Only to be killed by Syndrome’s Prototypes. If the hero survived and destroyed the prototype, they were then killed by a more adapted and deadlier prototype. It really hits you hard, despite that ridiculous looking outfit and hairdo, you really come to reality with how much a total psychopath Syndrome is. He murdered dozens of some of the best superheroes, all because he wanted to build the perfect weapon that nobody could stop (except him remotely) and make sure the world would never need supers again.
Why wouldn't a kid understand it?

@@thebdsyt Animators like to add adult or dark scenes to kids movies all the times. It's not that important to the whole plot, so it's fine if kids don't understand the essence of it. But it's also a fun easter egg to look back to years after, when said kids have already grown.

It’s never really told at all in the movie but the reason why Mr. incredible rejected him is because of the fact that Syndrome lacks the true meaning about what being a superhero really is.
He thinks being a superhero is all about wearing cool costumes and beating people up when the reality and real meaning of it which he lacks is about protecting innocent people and bringing criminals to justice.

As a kid, I didn't realize Gazerbeam was the skeleton in the cave. I thought it was one of Syndrome's goons abandoned in the cave, left to starve and die off, or die from wounds from a rogue test from his robot tests.
Since I learned that, and how many heros he actually killed, it changed the whole context of how evil and sadistic Syndrome actually was. Killing off all the supers on that line island.
Also you will figure out that Gazerbeam was the first to infiltrate Syndrome's HQ. He discovered the code "Kronos" and wrote it on the cave wall just before he died from his wounds. Gazerbeam was systematically assassinated, and found out.

You can see the shock and sadness Mr. Incredible feels when he learns that the supers were being killed off one by one this whole time. They weren’t strangers to him or simple acquaintances. They were his FRIENDS. A good number of them attended his wedding. They KNEW his and Helen’s secret identities and vice versa. Truly one of the most (if not the most) dark moments in Pixar movie history.

The moment when you realize that, once you strip away the whole supervillain thing, once you look past the fancy gadgets and killer robots, Syndrome is basically a goddamn serial killer.
He systematically targets a certain group of individuals, stalks them through whatever means he has available, lures them in with false hope, and then straight-up murders them. All the while self-justifying it to himself because of his perceived “slight”, because of one bad incident that happened to him as a kid that he’s more at fault for than he’ll ever admit. He tries to play it off as him being the sympathetic one, as him doing the right thing in his eyes, because he feels entitled towards “revenge”.
He truly is Pixar’s darkest villain, when you get down to it.

In one of the deleted scenes it's shown that Bob, frozone and gamma jack used to hangout togather. They were the ones that got gazerbeam into being a supe, so it went from Bob finding out that one out of his 3 best friends dying (gazerbeam) to two (gamma jack) with only frozone left. It might be a coincidence but jack jacks name could be from gamma jack
I think he was also one of the most powerful next to Mr. Incredible. I may be wrong but the first omnidroid Mr. Incredible fought was the one that killed Gamma Jack and went undefeated until Mr. Incredible destroyed it
@@MenagerieOfMadness501 in the top right corner is a "threat rating" for every Hero. Gamma Jack had a 7.9 which was the highest that we could see (aside from Mr.Incredible with 9.1) so Syndrome did consider him to be quite dangerous

Another interesting think about Syndrome is that he was perfectly fine with killing off Mr Incredible without explaining his evil plan or even revealing himself. It’s only after his former hero defeated one of the omnidroids and faked his death that he became so impressed he had to confront him.
To be fair I think syndrome knew that Mr incredible would win the fight, considering he waited for him specifically to be the last to fight the omnidroids.

The score in the background slowly building up as he finds out the truth is immaculate. This my friends, is how you do death in a pg movie. 10/10 scene.

I like how the noises represent how really sadistic Syndrome was, when someone was terminated it made a positive/valid chirp, as if the progressive of it made the situation bright to him. And when it reveals that elastigirl’s location was unknown it made a low buzz. simulating his frustration when he didn’t get his way
This scene was truly something else. While thrown into a child's movie, it's something not only the parents could watch and see for what it truly was, it's something we could watch again later in life and understand how dark it ACTUALLY was.

I remember not getting this scene as a kid. My sister had to explain to me how sad it was because it was saying Syndrome killed all those supers by testing his robots on them, honing his craft until he had the right machine to kill Mr. incredible.
It's super fucked up. Syndrome might have one of the highest kill counts of any Disney or Pixar villain.

I was about 10 when this came out and was a little clued in, but didn't fully get it until a few years later. But even at 10 I understood that this was not good, that Syndrome had done horrible things to people.
This movie is so well balanced in themes.
It's also messed up because it's implied some nations might have helped by turning a blind eye to the heroes deaths.
As a child I used to just think of these as a "oh, they were defeated"
But when I rewatched it as a teen, I literally let out a gasp. Considering how Bob himself struggled to fight the robot, I could only imagine how much torture those heroes went through, specially considering how the machine was literally about to slowly rip Bob in half and slice him to death.
It leaves so much horror to the imagination and even worse, you come to understand his deep loathing for heroes was strong enough for him to build these huge robots, find the secret identities of all these heroes, and lure them into his island just to enjoy watching them get mercilessly killed. He's killed around 20 heroes and he seems to be in his late 20s-early 30s. Imagine how much of a menace he could've been had he lived longer.
Now I see why he had to be killed! This man have the mind of a genius and all he wanted to do was destroy super heroes. Most were of old age maybe that’s why their powers weren’t strong enough to defeat whatever bots he made and Syndrome knew that, have Mirage to sweet talk them and they never met Syndrome. So they could never find out if he was genuine or not to these super heroes.
Which makes his death all the more satisfying 😈

You don't really notice how unsettling this scene is until you watch it as an adult. Cause as a kid you don't really notice the impacts of certain movie scenes, you're more focused on seeing the action. But now you watch this and realize how messed up this is. I mean Mr. Incredible was like the best hero, he never stopped wanting to be a hero and save people even after being forced to go into hiding. And he just figured that all the big bad villains left after that as well. But now he's seeing that this dude had been killing off other heroes for years. All those years he has been raising his kids and having a family, while his friends, former heroes were being hunted and slaughtered by a bad guy that he didn't even know he created. It's ironic, the dude who wanted to save people the most unknowingly caused the deaths of multiple former heroes.

What's worse, you realize that the biggest thing that kept them hidden was the fact that they had to move dozens of times because Bob was so bad at his jobs. They only found him because he was with Frozone, who they were tracking at the time.
It's even more twisted when you realize Syndrome _watched_ each of these heroes die, via the robotic birds throughout the island (assuming each scenario was the same as Mr. Incredible's).

I always believe he tricked all the heroes the same way he did with Mr. Incredible in order to test his strong omnidroids, but also to kill them because he had this crazy grudge against every hero for Mr. Incredible rejecting him years before. What actually amazed me is that this kid managed to build such powerful robots but also hide himself and the corpses from police once he had the heroes come to his island.

Shoutout to Macroburst, Downburst, Hypershock, Gazerbeam and Gamma Jack for being the only ones besides the Incredibles/Frozone to take out an Omnidroid.
Everytime they took one down, I bet you Syndrome designed the next one specifically to take out whoever took down the first one. Man, this is by far the darkest part of the movie.
And two others we didn't get to see, since the Omnidroid was at Version 8 when it went up against Mr. Incredible for the first time.

Probably the only two he didn't see on the list of murdered heroes. We know that he noticed Gazerbeam's disappearance, maybe he noticed the others too only for this to be thrown in his face. I think Gazerbeam was actually in the front row at the wedding too, so that's probably why they used him.

The terminated scene might be chilling, but the phone call also is so spine chilling. Watching a woman find out her husbands lies to find out he’s more then certainly in danger must be a terrifying ordeal.
This was probably the darkest scene in all the movies. Not only did Syndrome kill off pretty much every hero in the world, but Bob probably knew most of these people, like he did with Frozone. These people we're his friends, and Syndrome killed them all.

What makes this scene even more intense is the fact that during the glorious days, the superheroes were probably used to fight a lot of super villains. They faced a lot of great opponents but always managed to defeat them... And now you have an ordinary boy who possesses only a great intelligence but was still able to kill every single of those heroes by creating powerful technology. Who can blame Syndrome for having so much confidence after that? But that proves how dangerous and terrifying he is as a villain.
But this scene also shows that actions have consequences. Mr. Incredible kept rejecting Syndrome, which made him snap and started murdering superheroes in secret and worse part is no one, not even their family members are aware that they died and no one even bothered looking for them. No private investigators, no search parties, nothing.
Jalen Ellis actually people were looking for them because on the news paper frozone and me incredible was reading it showed a guy in a suit they recognized as gazerbeam since he went to bobs wedding and on the cover it said the man was missing so it’s not like they didn’t search for the missing supers it’s because they couldn’t find him with lack of evidence because they probably didn’t tell anyone about the island and the only evidence of the islands details was the tablet which self destructs after you use it so yeah.

For people that had the DVD of the Incredibles will know that there was a bonus feature that actually had details such as powers and personality and audio files of all the superheroes. Once you read and listen to all the audio files, you get a sense of what they were like and a little bit of their backstory and realize that they’re all dead.

The real genius of this scene is instead of showing a flashback of the heroes’ death, the audience had to imagine what and how it happened, which added a lot to the horror.
Honestly, it's a practice I wish more people would refer to. The tell/don't show approach can sometimes be more powerful than a flash back simply because it plays with your imagination.
It's why I think the best horror movie monsters are the ones where, at best, you get a glance at a part or two and let your imagination fill in the rest. Your brain can potentially come up with scarier images than any sort of cgi or practical effect (not to say some haven't been great) ever could.

No one is mentioning it, but if you pause the video and take the time to read the information about the heros and the omnidroids, you'll notice that some heroes had really incredible and mighty powers, while reading I was like "How did a robot manage to kill a guy/girl with that power?". That helps to understand the real power of an omnidroid and Syndrome's genius level intellect.

According to a later scene, Mr. Incredible was snooping around at 11:07pm that night. The countdown he accesses shows that the rocket will launch in 8 hours, 10 minutes and 42 seconds, meaning that Syndrome for some reason thought "Man, I should launch this thing at precisely 7:18am for no apparent reason."
Syndrome considered the development of the Omnidroid to be complete and immediately went ahead in deploying it once Mr. Incredible was “terminated.” He started the process of the launch the moment he logged his supposed success in defeating his hero. The countdown was set in place so his business would be prepared for the launch, like a NASA launch. It takes a while to get everything in place, including getting the Omnidroid in the rocket, and acquire all the data needed for a rocket launch. It didn’t need to be at any specific time because Syndrome was operating on a dynamic, self-propelled schedule.

The comment is pretty funny, but my guess is that Syndrome likely calculated how fast it would be to get the rocket over to the mainland and set a certain destination time (possibly 8 or 9 am on the dot), so a rocket that took about 42 minutes (or 1 hr 42 mins) should leave at 7:18 am. He probably chose that time since it’s a round number, but also that’s around when a ton of people start showing up in the city after they’re awake for the most eyeballs on his stunt.
You don’t realise how in depth and sadistic syndrome is when you’re a child watching this. He literally lured and killed superheroes while playing on their emotions. Any times his robots got defeated he upgraded it and then kills them without remorse. Such a crazy character.

The cuts between Bob and Helen here are very well done! The lady on the phone says that Bob's employment at Insuricare was terminated two months earlier and Helen finally realising the truth, then we immediately cut to Bob seeing the word "TERMINATED" on screen over and over, also finally realising the truth! Now Bob's location is completely unknown to Helen and Edna gives her a chance to change that with the homing device, then we immediately cut to Bob searching for Helen in the computer only to find that her location is unknown!
This scene resonates a lot more once you rewatch it as an adult. These were people he knew for several years and by one person they were executed. The fear amplifies when it comes to the safety of his family and Frozone. The tension in this scene is done so well it’s amazing.

Like when Helen talks to her kids, she doesn't baby them. She says that they will literally die if they aren't careful and that makes the stakes even better. Syndrome has got to be one of my all time favorite villains. Without any powers, and a pure fuming disdain for heroes after his idol kicked him to the curb for his own good, he worked to systematically killed every retired hero with the goal of taking revenge on Mr. Incredible himself, the one that started him on his path. To ultimately destroy the idea of what superheroes were and will ever be. Great characterization and writing.
Seeing the hero's picture with "TERMINATED" over it is so much more affecting than seeing the heroes actually die, it leaves so much to the imagination, that with the music, unironically cinema

When it doesn't show any deaths it gives you this image of the heroes truly not being a challenge, to Syndrome these heroes dying is just a process a methodical genocide of which nothing is truly an obstacle, they don't show the fights because it gives you this image of a mass killing with almost zero remorse or chance of showing the heroes succeed in any of the fights.

Let's just stop for a moment and give Gazerbeam credit it was badass of him to infiltrate the location of Syndrome's weaponry and the first to discover KRONOS and keep in mind his only power was to fire lasers that's it. He was also an activist of superhero rights as a civilian he wouldn't side with anyone against his fellow supers like that. He was hardly onscreen and made it far enough for Bob to take action. His death brought back heroism.

This movie is pretty dark when you think about it. Luring the supers out to the middle of nowhere, especially picking ones they knew missed being active superheroes (which was probably most all of them. Even Helen probably missed it, but she had other things she wanted to put first, like her family), and killing them off one by one just so a kid who senpai didn't notice could prove a point and live out his fantasy. Honestly if this movie wasn't for kids or had super heroes I'm pretty sure Buddy would've become a serial killer...
Syndrome was definitely a psychopath. He committed genocide on the supers, was willing to let Mr. Incredible snap his assistant in half, blew up an airplane that was carrying a woman and 2 children, attacked a city just so he can show off, and also kidnapped a baby. He was a psycho.

That's why they didn't know where Helen was because she didn't use her powers outside of the home like Frozone and Mr. Incredible did. She was being smart about it and heavily chastised her children and husband for doing so because it put them at risk.
There is a theory that Edna Modes designed Syndromes suit but she also knew he was the one who killed all of her friends so she made his suit have a Cape cause she knew capes were unsafe.

The name of Operation Kronos fits so well too. Syndrome sends a Titan to terrorize the populace, and casts it down himself so they see him as the ultimate hero, like Zeus became king of the gods by killing Kronos. There might also be something about killing your father wrapped up in there (or father figure, in the case of Mr. Incredible.)

Gideon Han Scary thing is, he was the original target. When we first see Mirage in her car talking on the phone she refers to Mr. Incredible as "The fat guy" implying that she doesn't know who he is. It's only when she sees him react so happily to the police scanner that she knows it's him and switches targets....Frozone would've been next on buddy's list but was saved by pure luck.
Frozone damn well better be thankful that they didn't invite him
Andrés Pétur Axelsson I'm not so sure. I really think that Lucius (Frozone) would have figured out how to beat the Omnidroid on his first "mission" like Bob did. That would actually make a very interesting AU, seeing the events of the film play out differently, especially with Frozone sweet-talking Mirage into letting Bob join on the missions, Syndrome being absolutely ecstatic at the chance to slay two Supers at once, and the rest of the film is Bob and Lucius sneaking their way around Nomanisan while Helen and the kids rush to their rescue.

What I love about this scene is that, at the beginning, you feel like Mr Incredible is the one in control. He has the super powers. He's finally discovering the truth. There is a big gap between Mr Incredible power and his enemy's. Then the video starts playing. One super hero defeated at time, you can physically see the gap getting smaller and smaller, and the villain grow stronger and stronger. Our hero is no longer the most powerful. He is in danger.
And at the same time his lie gets exposed. Way to pack drama in one scene! This is truly breath-taking.

That's true. Mr. Incredible and the viewers have now realized the true extent of Syndrome's goals, and now Mr. Incredible has realised just how much danger he and his family are in.
Even as a kid, I knew how dark and messed up this scene was. It still chills me down to the bone to this day.

If you remember, Mirage was actually scouting Frozone out before then she changed it to Mr. incredible because well he's Mr. incredible.
Fun fact: the reason they know Frozone's location is because he was actually Syndrome's next target, it wasn't until Mirage realized he was with Mr Incredible at the beginning of the film that they switched targets.

I didn't understand what was happening here when I was a kid. I thought it was just listing that all of the supers that died over the years, not that they were *all killed by Syndrome*
Syndrome is actually one of the most brilliant villains....in all of fiction.... He's just a normal guy who made machines that were capable of killing supers. And not only was he capable, he actually did. All of them. Every. Single. One. His doing.
Has anyone noticed the amount of detail in these few brief glimpses they did? Every hero had a summary of their powers. Every prototype had a list of their abilities. This was a kid's movie and the amount of forethought and detail put into this is not shy of, not to pun but incredible!
This was why I LOVED Pixar movies; while catered towards children, were smart enough to entice grown ups.
The same could be said for Avatar: TLA, a show made for kids but with themes meant for Adults.
It ensures that both audiences could enjoy the movie/show.

It is amazing. I did get a little disappointed that there is hero’s photos are just mirrored at 1:31, you can’t really see much as the camera only just shows the screen but it’s copied from previous hero’s just switched the name

Crazy how you don’t realize the significance of this pivotal scene when you’re 5 years old and years later you realize what it meant. Gives the scene a much darker and creepier feeling.

Same with me, I swear the music only made the chills worse. And another thing I'd like to point out for things we don't realize when we were kids: the climactic fight in Tarzan. After Clayton falls after cutting the vines, our eyes follow the knife and Tarzan, not the silhouette of a hanged Clayton...

Uhuh. As an adult, I'm watching a man discover the genocide of his colleagues, and probably close friends.
It strangely reminds me of people turning on their TVs to see their loved ones' names appear on the news, in lists of victims or missing people.
It would be terrifying, imagine listening to the news and all of a sudden you hear that someone very close to you is dead, mr incredible had to find out tons of people he knew, some who even attended his wedding, are dead.
As a kid I never even realized these supers were killed. I only understood that some of them destroyed some of the robots
Yes, and also discovering that while Syndrome wasn't aware of his wife's location, he did know his best friend's and planned to target him next
