Quantity of hours doesn't equal quality. Unless you learned or experienced something meaningful, you wasted your time essentially. Odyssey lacks these meaningful moments (especially relative to the amount of hours it expects its players to invest) unless the player is very inexperienced with gaming as a whole. Odyssey is far from a masterpiece, at least from the perspective of video games (although it breaks a bit of ground). Go play games like Journey or Undertale, or if you're specifically in the market for games that have significantly long playtime, I highly, highly recommend Horizon Zero Dawn--THAT'S a masterpiece and it's what inspired Origins, Odyssey, and I imagine other open-world games.

My comment was an exhortation to explore other works of art in the game industry, as the OP would be missing out on some artistically significant experiences if they measure a game's merit mostly by its ability to keep primal levels of engagement (ie, increasing levels, seeing numbers go up, completing practically meaningless tasks, progressing through stagnant levels of difficulty, etc.).
Also, I didn't say Odyssey was "bad," I love Odyssey. Its immensity of historical recreation is humanistically significant, and I now see Odyssey's characters when I read something from the like of Plato's dialogues. But that doesn't really have much to do with how the OP classified a masterpiece largely by how long it distracted them.
As a whole, the game's experience provides mostly primal engagement. Furthermore, countless polished-games keep players primally engaged anyway, albeit usually for less time in one playthrough. Moreover, many of these games provide more meaningful experiences in less time. Therefore, ACOdyssey can be a "time waster."
The OP's "masterpiece" statement implied comparisons to other games -- I'm assuming open-world games at least (other ACs would be a funny comparison to make considering they're thanking the maker). Considering this, I hope my comments encourage them to explore more games (For the record, social games might be good -- like Destiny 2, Warframe, or WoW -- if they have a lot of spare time), and I hope exploring more games improves their life, however much artistically significant experiences can.
Do you now understand or agree? Or do you have any assertions against what I've been saying? I'm curious if you do.

@@memecliparchives2254 All of the activities of the game taks 50 hours to complete, every cosmetic can be owned without paying real money, there is a FREE educational tour with hours of content... it may be "exploiting" but not unfair and not pay to win. But yeah, not an Assassin's Creed.. but not a bad game either

I agree. UBI has turned the dark path they were on almost completely around. I used to boycot them some years ago, but as opposed to EA and others they have really worked on improving their communication and standing with the gaming community. I can forgive them their sales of digital items, because they are entirely optional and many of them can be earned in the games themselves. UBi has found a reasonable balance I think.
I have become a big fan of many of the games UBI makes, like the AC games, the Far Cry series, and Wildlands for example. The games I enjoy most are more often UBI games than not.

However I still agree with you, from the big 4 (EA, Activision, Take 2 and Ubisoft) they are the better ones. I just regret that their actions lately make me add the words "For now" in the sentence.

If Ubisoft just made historical tours from now on, and continue to supply them in multiple languages in both text and audio, I would still buy them at full price.

​@@moxieswaygan You could also practice other languages too, everything is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Japanese (text and audio). For anyone who is a history plus language nerd, this is pretty much a godsend.

What do you mean? it sounds greek and not italian. Sure, its not perfectly greek, but close. I can tell, I lived in athens for a long time and talked to a lot of people in english. And they definitely soundd like this.

@C. G. JING Yes, exactly my position. Imagine if AC had the story telling of a series like Uncharted or The Last of Us? Or the Witcher 3? If Odyssey had that kind of story telling it would have been one of my favorite games ever. I loved the landscape and environment of this AC the most due to the Greek culture which I love. Idk tho.

Poor writing? Please that's bullshit. Most of the AC's have great storylines if you pay attention. Everyone's a critic today.
