Why would you pay $100 for a power bank to charge your phone? It's not difficult to find one or assemble your own for a couple dollars. A battery case that is slim is much more difficult for the user to assemble with off the shelf components because the form factor is customized to the phone. Also, with cases like Mophie's, quality control of the plastics to ensure a secure fitting between parts becomes increasingly important.

+Davindra ifixit has already done incredibly comprehensive teardowns of almost all apple devices. You should check out their website for a detailed look inside those devices.
+Davindra What is there to see? Everything is basically on the outside. The only thing you dont see is the motherboard that has to connect a usb c and a 3.5 mm head jack. Also you see the ssd and battery. Not much to see.

Arent you a sheep m8. Of course all companies do it, but apples margains are just ridiculous. Most companies like samsung, htc and oneplus would have margains of ~30-40% profit. Apple has upwards of 500% on alot of theirs. You comprehend?

If Samsung engineers found some genius manufacturing technique that would half the cost of all their phones today, do you think their phone prices would also reduce by half? Fuck no! Because they know millions of people will buy their phones at the price they are at already.
Companies will get away with what they can, don't for one second think that they only have profit margins of 30-40% because they are 'for the consumer' they would love nothing more than to have that 500% profit margin. If Apple could charge $3000 for their iPhones they would but not enough people will buy them then so they can't.

The circuits at the bottom are also for safe charging, under voltage and short circuit protection. As well as probably a boost converter to step up the 3.8 volts of the LiPo battery to 5 volts for USB charging.
Although the charging and protection stuff could be inside the black casing for the battery itself.

It's incredibly ugly, the case material just loves the lint from your pocket, and there are already case makers that have this sort of thing. The only cool knack is that you can see the battery status of the case through your iPhone because of the logic board... But even that is hardly a feature.

A few days back I was at an exhibition where I used the apple pencil and I can say that it is good. Really Really good with zero latency. And the force sensitive tip makes it more fun. However My real question is why this costs a 100$? I dont expect it to be super cheap as these are premium range devices but i dont expect it to be 100$ either. So I will very much like to know whats inside.

The reason for the design is more than likely for the phones antennas and NFC with the metal casing that appears to be inside, making the back bigger than the hump that's there already would block the antenna bands (the little plastic lines over the back of the phone) if you hold it up to the phone I recon it would just fit between those lines

First it's a very ugly case. Second, *ONLY* a 1,877mAh battery? I just bought a really nice separate 6,000mAh battery for $39.99 at Meijer's. And I can use it to power phones, or any type of mobile device. Plus it's small and compact. Apple is retailing this thing for $99.99!? Insane!

Titus Corday I can't remember right off the top of my head. But the battery lasts forever. I even ran a Go Pro off of it and did 2 hours of recoding without killing it. And that thing drinks battery power like mad.

+Abhijeet Chaudhary You can, and with proper tools it's easy. It uses a PCIe based SSD though which are expensive.
If you can find the proprietary Apple SSD for your year it's really easy. Just whip the bottom off, take a screw out and swap over the SSD. It's no harder than any other laptop
teardown is expensive, i don't think you should go that way. It will be nicer to see macro shots of devices, tactile experience from it and more details explained when unboxing, i think.

But I agree that it should be possible to make it thinner. Or at least make it equally wide across the back. I'd rather have a thicker phone then an oddly shaped one personally. The Mac Pro (black cylinder) is pretty simple to access, just a little switch on the back and the metal slides off. Mkbhd took the case off his in his video on it. As for the iPad pro.. That I could be keen on

it's pretty basic just get a high capacity 3.7v liion battery and you're good to go
