In 2018, David Gordon Green’s Halloween, starring icon Jamie Lee Curtis, killed at the box office, earning more than $250 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing chapter in the four-decade franchise and setting a new record for the biggest opening weekend in history for a horror film starring a woman.
And the Halloween night when Michael Myers returned isn’t over yet.
Minutes after Laurie Strode (Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor.
But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster.
The Strode women join a group of other survivors of Michael’s first rampage who decide to take matters into their own hands, forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all.

Just watched on Peacock. The scenes with Michael are absolutely amazing, holy shit. There are several eye roll moments with the Strode girls. There were moments when I said "this sucks" but as soon as Michael was back on the screen I was saying "this is awesome"

A lot of the writing in this movie feels like a tier or two lower than the last one. That goes for the strodes, tommy, lindsey, really all of the characters make some really stupid choices and have some of the corniest/ most forced lines in the series... but I do like where the story is going.
I just wish the kills were more like the original. Parts of this movie actually does feel like the original in terms of how Michael acts, but then other parts he acts completely different, almost comparable to the rob zombie Michael. One scene he's emotionless, robotic, and takes his time stalking, then in the next scene he's holding an axe in his hands, clearly pissed, practically taunting his victims, fueled by anger, which is emotion. When his lack of emotion is what makes him interesting in the first place. This is just yet another thing that humanizes him.
It just feels weird because they're clearly trying to emulate the og as much as possible, and it feels like they want to make him the emotionless, motiveless, questionabley human slasher that he was in the original, but then they add scenes where he just acts like a savage bloodthirsty mute killer like the other 1000s of slashers, like Jason.
What was creepy about him in the first place was how confusing it was why he was killing. He didn't seem to be angry and feral, he didn't seem like he even enjoyed killing, and he acted almost robotically, so it felt like he could be something more abstract. Loomis' theorizing about him was a large part of what made the original so great, and the writing (his monologuing) in particular. All the things that make halloween, halloween, start with this one aspect. If he's just a realistic psychopath/ sociopath, then wtf is all this for? Wouldn't Loomis, as his doctor, be able to figure that out in the first 20 years and be able to treat this with medication, or therapy? Loomis seemed like a smart guy. All the wisdom he seemed to have would be undermined by his ineptitude at being a good doctor. You could say it was the time... maybe a small town in the 60s and 70s (except this was a pretty big era for infamous serial killers) just wasn't equipped enough to diagnose him. But if not, surely a different doctor over the next 40 years would be able to figure him out.
Idk. Maybe it's another rug pull and the end of the trilogy will land everything perfectly. But as it stands, this movie just feels like a messy clusterfxck of a filler episode that just fxcks with the lore. At the very least John Carpenter is still killing it in the studio with both of the OST's so far, and like the title of the movie implies, the kills really stand out and make the movie. They're filmed really well, and set up in really cool ways. I love the concept of the mob vs Michael, and thought they did a good job delivering on that premise, and making the kills really visceral. That makes it a pretty good scary movie, generally imo. But it stands as a pretty bad sequel and entry in the series though. Which, as unfortunate as it is to say as a halloween fan, is a drop in the ocean at this point. I think this franchise might have like 2 or 3 genuinely good movies, another 2 or 3 okay, solid spooky/ halloween season movies, and atleast 4 or 5 just god awful movies, depending on who you ask. and that's still leaving out a few movies in the franchise that I just don't know how to categorize how I personally feel about them lol. there's so many movies at this point and so, so few good ones...
@@Jack-rk7jc i agree with you about the acting, I almost wonder if they didn't make the acting bad on purpose to try and mimic the typical bad acting in most horror/slasher films. But it was almost like the actors in this movie are good actors trying to act bad and it just didn't work. Anthony Michael Hall and the guy who played Hawkins (his name escapes me) are good actors but they were just horrible here and had really bad lines. But I've watched it 3 times already so I guess I liked it...lol

I actually like Michael actively hunting Laurie this time around. Not only is she the victim that escaped his clutches, but she’s also the one that got him locked up for 40 years and then when he’s finally free, he gets his finger shot off and nearly burned. He’s absolutely pissed.

There’s something menacing about Michael that gives him a genuine horror element out of the rest of the slashers. He’s one of the best horror figures ever. And he’s portrayed to be just a legit evil human.

It did.
They had an extra layer of film grain, and I thought the color grading looked more moonlight/ blueish, like the original was. So I thought the flashbacks emulated the look and feel of the original.
The original Halloween is my favorite movie. I am BEYOND thrilled to see the series end up like this!!! I thought the last one did great at continuing the story of the 1978 Halloween in a new way but still staying true to the classic ways in how the original was written and filmed. I am SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!! I LOVE the flashbacks to the first movie and all the OG actors being back!!! Literally my dream!!!

I never ever had nightmares about Kruger or Jason. Yea they are legends but they simply never scared me. But I had so many nightmares of Michael and I say that as a dude who has seen all things horror and yawned. His slow walk, the lack of motivation, and that damn blank mask is more shocking than anything. The fact that there just seems to be no substance there, no humanity, no expression, just a white pale expressionless mask with evil eyes poking underneath it. It is extremely shocking for the human psyche to comprehend how something so empty is so sinister at the same time.
THIS!! The idea of removing his mask while I understand character wise I really hope they don't actually show us his face. The last thing I want his him to be humanized. Leave us feeling this feeling you just described. Other than that I cannot wait for this movie .

The fact that in these new films he is just killing people because they just happen to be at the wrong place and at the wrong time makes him so terrifying. The way Michael always pops out of those dark or blind sided areas... Fucking elite. He just stands there with his knife and watches you from afar. A silent but potent killer/slasher. That's what has always been intriguing to me because even though the whole neighborhood has been searching for him, he still manages to hide in plain sight.

I feel like that's how this all ends. I'm honestly glad that this is effectively erasing Halloween 2, while seemingly writing what should've been the true ending to this series. It's taking the idea that was used in the 4th somewhat, with the entire town basically worked into a frenzy out to stop Michael once and for all. It's also looping back to the events of the original movie as we now see that the kids Laurie was babysitting the night Michael came for her, are all grown up and now having to face Michael again.
He found a way out of a house that was meant to be his final resting place. Laurie's significantly dinged after taking that knife to the gut and Michael's gunning for em'. Definitely jacked for this penultimate film before the bloody grand finale.

Kills may be my favorite of the series, behind Halloween III and the original. It's musings on the personification of evil were quite profound (for the series) and Michael has NEVER been better onscreen. James Jude Courtney is outstanding! The score, while not QUITE as brilliant as Halloween 2018, is amazing in its own right.

I'll say this....the kills were excellent (just as usual) I love the fact they brought back characters, especially Tommy Doyle. But the storyline could have been a little better. All and all I give it a 7.3/10. I won't spoil it for u guys yet.
Characters were very weak and their decisions were very dumb to the point it was laughable. Not a lot of tension built up. I'd give it a 6/10. Hoping the third movie goes back to what 2018 was like

Ever since Halloween (2018) came out, slasher movies have really been revitalised, and ironically seem to be copying how Halloween (2018) used the same title as it's original, Candyman did it, scream is doing it and now Texas chainsaw massacre is doing it, honestly I think we owe it to Halloween (2018) for bringing the genre back and should respect that film a lot more now.
I'm glad they choses to do streaming and theaters , because I can go to the theater the first night and stream it the next day and really take in all the Easter eggs , and all the things I missed right away. Best of both worlds!!!
