There's a prime minister whose term was ending on the day of the assassination and a new one was already lined up, but he hasn't leave power. That's enough intent to murder.

The killers came in shouting "DEA operation, stand down!" and disarmed them after the president's security let them in. It's not unheard of for the DEA to mount raids that _look_ like this and you could see how his security detail would rather stand down than engage with U.S. agents.

It’s not the only for sure. Colombia just has a ton of mercenaries like the US. Many countries hire these men, especially in the Middle East like Saudi Arabia. The reason is because Colombians have so many well armed, and very well trained enemies to fight in jungle, and urban warfare. Lots of Colombian soldiers end up joining the bad guys, and lots of bad guys end up working for other groups.

At some point, Haitians have to stand up and fight for their own country, their own democracy. I feel bad for the Haitian people, but they must want to help themselves, and they’ve had over 2 centuries of independence to do so.
As Americans, we do not benefit when a country so close to our borders is a violent, failed state, and we have already tried to intervene militarily in Haiti before - but things never change. Violent gangs have been controlling parts of Haiti for decades and decades, longer than I’ve been alive.
As an Iranian-American and former child refugee, I have suffered firsthand from Western colonialism and exploitation, but this? This ain’t it. This is a Haitian phenomenon, it ain’t the fault of the Americans or Dominicans or anyone else.
