- Last year, more women in Iran found themselves riding motorcycles even though biking could get them fined or have their vehicle confiscated. The law doesn’t expressly forbid women to ride but they cannot be issued motorcycle licenses.

Iranians are some of the most warm, intelligent (highly educated!), and resourceful people I have met. I have lived in ten different countries and attended two Persian+non-Persian weddings. So much fun and joy! I do realize that the Iranians who don't want to leave their home country are forced to be very clever and humble and sometimes sneaky in order to out-smart the regime and the courts/cops. Let's hope that Iran can evolve into a normal country in our lifetime - no Shah, no Ayatollah, just a regular country with normal checks and balances, and with full respect for women, minorities and poor people. 🤍🤍🤍

They aren't banned but they won't be given licenses which is why they are allowed to go and do Motorcross it's a loophole
It's not the only manipulative law in our country against women's rights. Like they actually had to get around their own laws to oppress women.

Iranian woman here. I support fully equality but why no helmet? why riding on the sidewalk? Iranian male bikers don't follow the rules and that's why it is chaotic. I have been three times hit by motorbikes. all three times, they were driving wrong-way. Walking and passing across the streets in Tehran is scary mostly because of motor bikers. I hope women don't copy men.

Islam was the first religion to legislate legal rights to the women that they will have share of assets and property from her father, brother, husband and have the rights to use her assets and money as she pleases. She also holds the right to divorce her husband. Mohammed's first wife was a merchant like himself and he was married to her until she died. (He married her when she was 45 and when he was in his mid 20's. She was impressed with his business contracts and records that she herself proposed to her. The clan of Mohammed offered him all the females of Arabia if he would stop preaching the monotheism of God but he didn’t. If sex was the only thing he wanted he would've gone for it. All of the women he married was either divorced or widowed. So much for your arguments. And on Aiesha, medieval kingdoms to the late eighteen hundreds, hell even in modern France and some states of the US the age of consent has barely gone up to fifteen. I personally think that it should be raised more because time has changed in terms of the younger generations need to be given more time to prepare as parents but marrying in a young age is barely nothing new. What a lovely quality report.. As an Iranian I fully confirm that this was all the truth in a nutshell… It is what Iran truly is. Normally Women neither ride bicycles nor motorcycles… I don’t know what the exact explanation for banning women to ride is but they explain it to women that it is because they are weak as women and it is not good for their wellbeing to ride such dangerous way of transportation but in reality they are concerned due to Islamic considerations only: for example what happens when they fall down and have an accident? You know, then their cover would come out of their hair which is frown upon in Iran. Or their legs is too wide open on anything which has to be ridden and it becomes too exposing and not good for women… Or when they ride fast, air can remove their headscarves which is again frown upon in Iran… it is seen more “ssluuttiisshh”, and with this word I fully tell you the reality… So, most men don’t like women ridding… for example you can see that old woman says as a woman she was so shy that tears would drop down her face whenever she had to drive a motorcycle.. So you can see the truth is not the Islamic Republic banning Iranians … The Islamic Republic would allow brothels if Iranians wanted to do it.. I mean the Islamic Republic just wants to remain and govern Iranians only… they would agree if Iranians wanted to walk outside home completely naked… you don’t know mullahs… they do anything to stay in power…But Iranians want to live in this way… Some westerners think Iranians don’t protest against their Islamic Republic regime because they are too weak to do so and need help… but I have always shouted it out loud for my western friends that it is not absolutely the case.. The Iranian people are just very religious and they genuinely want this type of life as a whole.. even though more and more people are becoming open minded and so the rules easily adopt afterwards… 40 years ago people couldn’t listen to pop songs such as those by Michael Jackson… because no one had heard such songs… no one had access to music players.. Nowadays it has become normal and even on the Iranian national television they sometimes play Michael Jackson’s instrumental convers (such as some I have seen in Mehradn Modiri TV shows)…. Because now people have listened to pop song and it has become normal for them….

The windshield supported roofs on many of the bikes in the city are pretty cool. A detachable version of that would be great on scooters in the city.
On a side note, the flaunting of many laws is interesting in a country with such strict values. Especially when you have "morality officers" keeping tabs on everyone.

The public does so. Wooow!! Gone are the days women were banned from driving, riding. More power to these champions of change.
There is no oversight, most of these sort of policing was given to basij and Komite( militias formed after the 79 revolution). But, they integrated the role into the police force for more legitimacy. The police in Iran is quite fragmented. There is a branch that only deals with crime. Another branch that only deals with issuing tickets and traffic (they don't arrest people usually). The morality police is free to issue arrest and do whatever they like.

Most American farms have dirt bikes and four wheelers. It just makes sense.
It’s a shame that these women are treated like criminals, for just wanting to drive themselves. Like the one man said, it would cut down traffic, and pollution. Half of the traffic is men driving their wives around to run errands. I’ve been riding close to 15 years, and I was so excited when my daughter wanted her first bike. Much respect to these women for standing up for themselves, and doing what they love.

@@hubalahu I am not particularly sure about that because I haven't lived there and it would be wrong of me to assume anything. But from what I know it's not the same. Some Saudi clerics has declared that driving for women is forbidden in their radical version of Islam ( vahabisim ) because it can lead to women committing sins! And gives them too much freedom to go out without their man (husband or father or brother).
Of course this is just their version and what they belive. No one else in the world thinks like that.

Shiara law seems like a nightmare. Maybe if enough of these women just break the law all at once and keep doing it... maybe they’ll start issuing licenses to women. It’s not the ideal way to go about it but what can you do with no legit political influence or representation?
