The only 2 times I've been hit in my life were by people with fake insurance and fake plates. One was also drunk to top it off and nearly killed the other person they hit when their car flipped (they hit me after hitting the other car full force so I was thankfully uninjured), and the other time I was on my Vespa and flew through the air 20 feet. I'm so sick of it. I'm in Denver and see expired and illegal plates daily in the city and parked on my street selling drugs in broad daylight. I'm not one to judge morally, but safety wise, I have no idea why this isn't seen as a bigger concern for law enforcement in big cities. If I miss a single day of putting a new sticker on my plate, I get a $75 ticket. If I call the police because I heard a shooting and see a car with bullet holes and expired plates parked in front of my house, they do nothing even when the person returns and continues selling drugs daily with a bullet wound in his leg. What is going on?? (Also, I don't think the shootout drug dealer living in his car in front of my house is completely equal to someone who DOES pay taxes and work and pay rent, but either way, it just seems like there's a common denominator with people who have illegal tags just so happen to also be the worst and most reckless drivers around, speaking from first hand experience.)

But they usually drive slow and speed is the most important factor in the severity of accidents. Red light cameras were banned here in tx in 2019. The argument over here was that the cameras violated the right to due process under the tx constitution by assuming the registered owner is the one actually committing the violation. The other issue was that they were ticketing people who barely passed a red light and also ticketed people who didn't stop long enough to satisfy the cameras before turning right at redlight. It got to a point were as soon a It hits yellow, people would slam on their brakes and it caused some rear end collisions.

Where I live, unmarked police cars are illegal, in order to prevent criminals to impersonate police and rob or kill citizens. So they came with a trick: they use a very, very small police badge on the car's windshield, impossible to see from a normal driving distance to claim their car is not unmarked. I believe someone will challenge that strategy in court some day.
