If anyone is wondering about how to tell the difference between a crocodile and an alligator.
A crocodile will see you in a while, where as an alligator will see you later.

While I think this is a great comment I can’t help but mention that it’s the other way around. “See you later alligator” implies that the croc is saying this to the gator. “In a while crocodile” conversely implies the alligator is saying this to the croc.
So the croc will see you later and the gator will see you in a while.

Evidently, you haven't been to my mother- in- law's house.....
Which is why you should never be stupid enough to put yourself in a position where you are going to get attacked by a a crocodile. Of course it’s different for poorer communities in low income countries that often have to go into crocodile infested areas to get water and other resources, but many crocodile attacks especially in the west are merely because of peoples ignorance

They took the gators and crocs out of the park I live by and it kinda ruined the ecosystem. Certain birds and insects aren't there anymore. Which caused certain plants/flowers to stop growing. Didn't realize how important those mfs are.
Apex predators manage the population control of the herbivores, that graze on the greens. Without the predators, the herbivores populations boom and the greens get ate up, and those animals have to relocate or they die off. Human interference in the ecosystems destroys them,
Theyre so very important to our earth. If we protect the predators, everything else seems to fall in line. It’s a perfect system, and it suffers when it is out of balance.
I stepped on a caterpillar after noticing it once I sat down and there were two more wiggling away I felt like I hurt the fuckin local ecosystem doing that :(

There's a city in Mexico called Tampico that has crocodiles mingling with humans in the vecinity. It is such a rare occurance that Steve Irwin went there to study those docile crocodiles and their rare interaction with humans. There'a an episode about it on Animal Planet.
In Gir National Park, similar things happens between Lions and Humans

Why does feeding wild crocodiles get a pass? Everyone always says don’t feed wild animals and what not. They’ll learn to associate humans with food. But nobody ever says anything about this when it comes to crocs it seems

There is not a single saltwater crocodile that would not go a human.
There’s a difference between taking people to the crocs than crocs coming to the settlements. When they feed the crocs, they’re travelling to them. Crocodiles and Alligators are ambush predators so they strike when the opportunity arises so if a human or cow is within sight, it’s fair game. They don’t strike because you’re human, they strike because they can.

For someone who grew up in Darwin and has lived here my whole life I hate the fact he said “we have a zero policy for them moving in” when in actual fact crocs have been living for millions of years and we moved into their home. Being aboriginal I also agree with co-existing with these creatures just like our ancestors did. Be aware of swimming holes, lakes, rivers etc. Its really not hard to respect them and still have our freedoms.

It seems to be rather easily avoidable to have contact with saltwater crocodiles. Most of the people who are attacked deliberately push their luck and don't heed the warning signs. In Africa, however, villagers' entire livelihoods depend on sharing space with Nile crocodiles. Do a report on THEM.
When I saw the thumbnail I assumed it would be either Africa or India. I've heard India has had a major increase in croc attacks the past few years, to the point where it looks like the crocs are specifically targeting humans.

That’s really a bad misnomer that people have ran with unfortunately. They are not like dinosaurs at all. They are about as close to Dinos as we are to rats. Still tho, epic ancient predators that have ruled the waterways inland and coastal for over 200 million years

A friend of a friend that doesn't believe in getting rid of problem crocs finally understood the danger whens he went on a trip to Cape York (certified croc country) with her family
Day 1: she let her son fish waist deep in the water.
Day 2: did the same thing against let her son wet a line waist deep in water
Day 3: she went to the edge of the water to pull up a fish and a crocodile put its head up... it was waiting for her son

@@IDK-gw9wq If you go into crocodile country without educating yourself about the dangers and get eaten, it's on you, not the croc. You can't blame the croc for being a croc.
The amount of small minnows that flew out of the water when the croc entered shows you how good the ecosystem is over there. Shiners tend to hang out in large numbers closer to the banks when there are larger predatorial fish in the deeper parts of the water.
If you find them either toward the shore in large numbers, or in the shallows in large numbers, it is how you know you've got a good fishery nonetheless.
Northern Territory is one of the hardest places in the world to get a commercial fishing license. It is also arguably the most incredible amatuer angler's tourist destination on Earth. This is state governement policy, has been for decades, and the fisheries are booming because of it. Covid has only increased the population densities, since fewer people have been able to vist. Right now more than any time since white settlement, the waterways of the NT are practically crawling with once-in-a-lifetime catches.

A friend was in Darwin for an outdoor wedding. While filming the happy couple, in the background, a croc just casually walked from one estuary to another. The locals didn't bat an eyelid. Different place up there.

In Austria we have employed hunnter because there are too many deer , we dont have bears and woulfs any more
here in my country. venomous snakes are now a nuisance. in just two weeks, 3 kids (age 13, 7 and a toddler) died because of snakes.
the parent of the 7 year old WAS an animal conservationist. after the death of his child, his views regarding snakes changed. one thing he said is "there are still many predators that hunt rodents and other small animals aside from snakes".
@Still Nada I live in SC our deer hunting season starts in August for bucks and Does in September. Coyotes it is open season all the time. I don’t let my dog out at night - when she was a bitty puppy we had an owl that would stalk her. She didn’t go out without me.

Still remember on childhood, swimming in the strait. My friend got cought by crocodile, his belly torn apart. Saltwater crocs really dangerous. And water like this, you can't see anything, they could attack you from every side.
The mongrels are moving further south every few years. There is a recent Queensland parks and wildlife photograph of an estimated four metre croc in the Mary river at Tairo , about two hours drive north of Brisbane.
There have occasionally been rogue individuals seen and detected in Brisbane wetlands over the years .

@@rp4712 Just slightly further south . There are numerous rivers , estuaries and creeks south of Gladstone through to northern New South Wales.
The Noosa area of the Sunshine Coast has a wetland system called the Noosa Everglades and Brisbane has rivers and wetlands on Moreton Bay. There have been crocodiles caught there in the past .
Steve has always been my real hero, maybe it's because of how Brave he actually was & as a kid seeing him wrestle dinosaurs i definitely thought he was strong, but it was his love for the animals that made me see Steve different from others. It was 2005, the year before Steve died & i visited Australia Zoo (not by-myself obviously) i assumed the Hardworking Steve would be busy, but nope, i happened to be standing right their, when along come Steve Irwin with his wife, Bindi & Bob was a baby at the time. Being my hero, i yelled out "Steve, Crikey M8 look out" He beeped, waved, smiled & impacted my life forever. When he died i knew the world lost more than just a Great guy & family man. When im missing Steve & all his greatness i just check up on Bob Irwin doing all the hard work to save & care for wildlife & it makes all the sadness fade, i see Steve, a natural born Steve, Lost his father, but became exactly what he never (Unfortunately) got to experience which was growing up with a Father.

No they're not. The American crocs we have here in south Florida usually flee the area, the second they see humans coming along. But the same American croc down in Costa Rica will eat you.

Alligators are also doing some damage. Just last week an elderly woman was killed by an alligator in her yard. When authorities arrived on scene, the alligator was feasting on her body and protecting. South Carolina

I live in Florida, & one thing I know is when you feed alligators they lose their fear of people & expect them to have food. When they don't have food to give them they themselves can become the food. So it might not be a good idea to be feeding the crocodiles like that.. however idk if its different with crocs
Believe me as an Aussie those animals have no fear of humans to begin with and the amount that are fed by humans for tourism is miniscule compared to their overall numbers so it has zero impact on croc population behavior. Salt water crocs are one of the most perfectly evolved predators on the planet and their rebound from near extinction to basically pre colonisation numbers in 5 decades is wonderful evidence of this

They aren’t hunted at all, I think there should be hunting with a limit number of tags, the same with alligators in the United States. Rangers in Australia are saying they are starting to over populate despite what “vice” says.

It always astonishes me, the foolish risks some Australians take in dangerous waters, like the gent in his water-level, easily overturned vessel at O5.58, paddling around in a river known to contain crocodiles, or the people fishing and splashing around at the water's edge of a crossing which saw a man taken by a crocodile and never seen again.
That man was old so I'd say he knows what he is doing when it comes to crocs. Just because you can't see a rational way of being in or around water.

As an Australian I would like to let everyone know that the crocodile leather that hits the fashion market isn't from wild caught animals but rather from places like crocodlious Park, this gives them the fund to continue research and increase public awareness of crocs
It might be true for some of them but people will do everything for profit. In the end, it will be very hard to trace the origin. My dad used to bring back elephant leathered handbags from Thailand, and the vendors told him they were sourced from elephants that died of natural causes in captivity. Later we found out that there were a lot of elephants that were used for labor, and when they could no longer work or injured they were shot. Not to mention the illegal trade of wild elephants that were gunned down.
@@ianzhao5693 look while that may be true of your personal experience with Thailand, I can with pretty much certainty tell you that with estuarine crocodile leather it comes from farmed animals as a wild catch just wouldn't be practical economically speaking
@@mpcg102 Ok, that I agree. I think what I said apply to a lot of uncommon animal products but crocodile leather might be one of the exceptions. I can't imagine someone catching them from the wild in large quantities to sustain the production.
It seems kind of sad to have to kill them to save them, but I understand that this is the case when funds aren’t plentiful.

Just wanted to clarify this because I keep seeing tons of comments stating that crocodiles are dinosaurs - Crocs didn’t evolve from dinosaurs! Crocodilians, birds, dinosaurs, and pterosaurs (pterodactyls) are all part of the archosaur group, meaning they are all related. Birds on the other hand, are the *only* living animal you can accurately call a dinosaur, because they literally are. Birds are a living lineage of therapod dinosaurs just like T-rex, and Utahraptor. While crocodilians are only close cousins.
For most people shorthand acknowledgement that these creatures lived alongside dinosaurs.

The Australian Government doesn't do that, it's the state and territory governments that are responsible for wildlife management. Crocodiles are generally removed when they are found in urbanised areas where interactions with humans are more likely. Even then, these are rare.
The Adelaide River Queen operates very far from any towns. The Northern Territory is very sparsely populated, it's not like South Florida.

Went to Australia in 2016. At a beach nearby my friend’s place a lady was eaten by a croc while she was walking in the surf at a beach near dusk. Gotta be careful where you go and what times. Talk to locals and stay smart. And remember those bad boys can swim in the ocean 🐊🌊

this is a true statement. I've had gulls in NSW attack me for fish and chips that would never do that in america
being completely honest America has more dangers than Australia. We have more apex predators (wolves, bears, mountain lions, American alligators, American crocodiles), we have a good amount of venomous stuff like rattlesnakes, water moccasins, coral snakes, copperheads etc. As far as danger goes the only categories Australia had us beat with are arachnids like funnel web spiders and birds such as cassowaries (which don’t live on the mainland).

Why relocate when they are not in danger? The video points out that crocs have rebounded to former numbers. If you relocate them you would just be putting them into another crocs territory, and they will be killed by the croc.

Assuming you are from the US, you have land predators. Like Bears, Cougars, Lynx, Bob Cats, Badgers, as well as deadly snakes and you do also have alligators. So you know, to go camping we don't need bear mace. WE just need to make sure our camp site is not really close to the water. Not hard.
