I think Vsauce should have ratcheted the wow-factor up a notch by showing how, in his example, the total distance traveled after a given number of seconds is always the square of a whole integer and that these squares, in turn, are the sums of odd numbers: 1, 1+3=4, 1+3+5=9, 1+3+5+7=16, etc. If you take the equation v=mx dx(where m is the slope) and integrate from 0 to any whole number x along the x-axis, you get Area= (m/2)x^2, resulting in total areas that are proportional to squared values at whole integer x-values.

Very top notch presentation!! Love the different interconnected threads and the full circle!!
If an image of an object can be said to represent that object through sharing of properties such as shapes, proportions, colors…then the mere fact that math has any relevance to nature, or could be said to reflect nature, by that logic must mean that the universe itself is mathematical. What is amazing about this is that math is not merely a set of numbers but rules. That means that the universe is intentional.

    • @skc9917
      @skc9917 6 개월 전 +1

I would disagree on the fact that the universe is intentional, as intent would imply agency, and agency implies motive, and motive implies reasonable thinking which implies life.
The best way to describe the aforementioned rules, would be to call them laws. Now, you'd be forgiven in mistaking them for something equivalent to human laws, as they are only loosely associated by the word "law". In reality, human laws are a social construct of acceptable human behavior that can but shouldn't be deviated from, while natural laws are constants that describe how something is and why something is, and are (as far as we have established) non-negotiable, unlike human laws. Besides, human laws allow for something to exist outside of their own system, because it does not determine the cause and effect of existence, but is merely a guideline for the way behavior should be encouraged/discouraged.
While the universe is complex, beautiful and interesting to observe, explaining it with a 'god of the gaps' argument, which is to say that since something happens/behaves the way that it does is for a reason and that reason is a decision is a insertion of an unfalsifiable claim which by all scientific principles must be rejected since unfalsifiable means that it doesn't behave by the scientific principles that have been proven to be true.
The closest argument that could be made for intentional design would be to invoke Giordano Bruno's: "natura est deus in rebus" (God is one with the nature/universe, they are the same).
But even then, there is no possibility of intentional design of itself, meaning that one cannot design themselves into existence, as they would be non-existent before designing themselves, therefore not being able to design themselves into existence. That, and the fact that this sort of teaching falls under most people's conviction as heresy would make it fall flat on its head. Therefore, the universe is not intentional.
It would be as for a fish to claim that it was designed intelligently, because it would die in any other environment other than the water, but the fishes that came before it evolved into a creature adapted for its environment. They were perfect for their environment not because of intent of putting them there, but simply by natural selection, because any 'fish' that went out the water would suffocate or be eaten, so they would not ponder if they were placed on land on purpose because they wouldn't survive on land.
TL;DR is that intent is the wrong word used to describe the universe, more accurate would be to say that it is ordered well, I guess...

As some said already this touches on Calculus theory, though not directly mentioning calculus.
Distance is the second integral of acceleration, namely 1/2at^2.
So for a constant acceleration, the TOTAL distance at any time t = 1/2at^2
For just the distance between two whole number intervals from t-1 to t, we can subtract the two totals:
    d(interval) = 1/2at^2 - 1/2a(t-1)^2 = 1/2a(t^2 - (t-1)^2)
    expanding gives : 1/2a(t^2 - t^2 +2t -1) = 1/2a(2t - 1) = 1/2a(2t) - 1/2a(1)
Notice the right term 1/2a(1) is the distance at time = 1 unit, the first triangle shown in the video, and the left term 1/2a(2t), is a rectangle made up of twice as many 1/2a triangles as the current time t. So for t = 4 we get (2t-1) = 7 triangles, each of which is 1/2a units of distance. For t = 5 we get 9 triangles and so on.
When you just look at the running total of distance it's easy to see the t-squared relationship
Time | Interval distance proportions | Total distance (sum of all previous intervals)
    1 1 1
    2 3 4
    3 5 9
    4 7 16
    5 9 25
    6 11 36

This idea of grouping is really at the key to primeness. The trivial cases are when every element is grouped alone (division by itself), or all elements are grouped together (division by 1), which both are excluded due to not being useful/interesting. What you have left are numbers you can group evenly, and those you can't. This is one manifestation of primeness, which is directly responsible for the odd/even ('ness) of numbers. We look at the first case, division (grouping) by 2 (itself a prime) and call it special.

When something is changing at a rate that is squared, it's inevitable that you will get in each interval the difference of squares.
    And the difference of squares is actually the odd numbers. 1^2 - 0^2 = 1, 2^2 - 1^2 = 3, 3^2 - 2^2 = 5, etc.
In general the difference of any two consecutive squared values is the odd number they create in sum.
    This gives us (n + 1)^2 - n^2 = (n+1) + n = 2n + 1, which of course is always odd. And it matches the 2n + 1 he mentions in the video.
