Oh man. Every one here is missing the fact that she didn't actually kill any dalmations in the Cruella movie. She was eccentric, and wanted people to think she was bad. In the Cruella movie, she actually grew a soft spot for the dalmations.
And in the end, I don’t know if someone said this already but one of the three dogs was actually pregnant, hence the 101 Dalmatians. You see it was actually quite similar to Maleficent, looking forward to who they’ll remake next.
But... this is a prequel... to a movie where she actively tries to murder puppies...

Unpopular opinion: Maleficent worked as a redeemable character. She didn’t just randomly curse Aurora for no reason. She was literally the one person in the entire kingdom who wasn’t invited to the ceremony. And notice how she has an army of monsters but it’s never mentioned in the story that she’s trying to take over the kingdom. They’re basically butlers. You could make the argument that she was just misunderstood, bullied, and resorted to using her powers for evil. Her and the three fairies were the only characters with a lot of personality throughout the film and therefore, there was a lot of creative freedom to take.
Now, with Cruella, that freedom doesn’t exist. She wasn’t trying to get back at Anita for anything. She didn’t have some trauma that explained her desire to skin puppies for clothes. She just wanted to do so because she found it to be fashionable and there were no redeeming qualities to her. So, they could make a movie and tell her story in a compelling manner. However, it would have to stray even further from the source material.
She’s not misunderstood like how you can argue with villains like Maleficent or Hades. She’s not a victim of her surrounds like Captain Hook or Ursula. She’s downright evil and I can’t comprehend how someone can spin this into a tale where she’s a sympathetic character. I saw someone comment that next they’ll do one about the hunter from Bambi and that really isn’t a stretch. Both characters get satisfaction from killing innocent creatures for entertainment. There’s nothing redeemable there. Nothing.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been this elated after finishing a movie. That was SO GOOD! Best new movie I’ve seen in forever. Like a lot of other people, I went into it with so-so expectations and wound up being blown away. It was like if Tim Burton rewrote The Devil Wears Prada. A masterpiece!! 🖤

Emma Stone NAILED Cruella perfectly. The way you gradually saw Cruella reveal her true, satisfyingly wicked character, and her revenge plan unfold, man, oh man! THIS is how you make a suspenseful, more mature film.

I have to say; This has got to be one of Disney's best films of all time. The careful planning, the details in the whole movie, from the story of Estella when she was a child to designing the fashion to overthrow the Baroness, I have to say, everything fits so well together. Truly a beautiful masterpiece
I absolutely loved it too. For me personally, it’s tied with The Suicide Squad as my second favorite movie that I’ve seen so far this year.
I agreed with you, the details. I watched it many many times while it was at the cinema. And the details (as you said) were terrific.
Emma stone acting is amazing in this movie. She deserves more Oscar. The part that she switched from Estella to Cruella really creeped me out.

😍 I know, right...its her wickedness and evilness that you can't help but love. I even loved the Cruella De Vil character from the Once Upon a Time series. Though its possible that they might take a good to bad approach to Cruella's character...but if she was actually evil EVIL from the get go, I'd be sold and love her even more than I already do.

People weren't lying when they said this is one of Disney's best movies. I thought people were just saying whatever in the comments (Disney) to get people to watch it, but noooo. This trailer compared to Maleficent (where we do sympathize) is SOO different! They might even do a twist like they did in the show Once Upon a Time (In Cruelle's origin story they made us think she was abused by her mom who was a murderer, but it was actually Cruella who was the murderer all along and ends up killing her mom.)

I've just finished watching it and I must say I'm really pleasantly surprised. First of all I hate prequels and sequels and cartoon remakes and secondly, even tho I'm a big Emma S fan, I never could have imagined her in this role. I must say I'm glad I was wrong. This movie is a masterpiece somewhat like Joker but sadly it will never get the attention of it. Awards aside, it's a major success and rightfully so.
I think it’s unfair to give praise to only Emma Stone’s performance. Let’s not forget Emma Thompson’s performance. Such a brilliant one for an antagonist..

i think one of the things everyone in this comment section is missing is that the entire trailer is narrated by Cruella. she is talking about herself. putting herself on a high horse and making a meek attempt at justifying why she's the way she is. narcissists talk about themselves this way. sociopaths talk about themselves this way. they are unique, powerful, hard to swallow, which is code for "i'm an awful person for the sake of being an awful person, but i make excuses for myself because i'm a manipulative prick."
i really, really do hope that they don't try to frame her as some girlboss, and the "i am woman, hear me roar" will become a throwaway line that's never actually used in the movie. i'm expecting a Cruella backstory film, a "here's why she's so evil and irredeemable" sort of thing. at least that's how i thought the trailer framed it. the other woman that seems to be her rival doesn't even seem half as scary as Cruella is, so between the two antagonists, Cruella will rise to be the biggest and baddest.

This is a beautiful film. I enjoy Disney movies, but usually can't take them too seriously in the eyes of what subjectively is or can be a cinematic master piece. But this, this took me to a far away place that I will never forget, I forgot I was even watching Disney at one point. I enjoyed every ounce this brilliant little film has to offer, down to absolutely every incredible detail.
At this rate Sid from Toy Story will have a backstory.
He's a white male. That's all the backstory Disney thinks he needs.
