“Doctor Sleep” continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.
Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.
Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before-at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
“Doctor Sleep” stars Ewan McGregor (“Star Wars: Episodes I, II & III,” “T2 Trainspotting”) as Dan Torrance, Rebecca Ferguson (the “Mission: Impossible” films, “The Greatest Showman”) as Rose the Hat, and Kyliegh Curran, in her major feature film debut, as Abra. The main ensemble cast also includes Carl Lumbly, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Bruce Greenwood, Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe and Cliff Curtis.
Trevor Macy and Jon Berg produced the film, with Roy Lee, Scott Lumpkin, Akiva Goldsman and Kevin McCormick serving as executive producers.
Flanagan’s behind-the-scene creative team was led by director of photography Michael Fimognari (“The Haunting of Hill House”), production designers Maher Ahmad (“Get Hard”) and Elizabeth Boller (“Hush”), and costume designer Terry Anderson (“Den of Thieves”). The music score is composed by The Newton Brothers (“The Haunting of Hill House”).

The Shining will always be the #1 best King adaption. Nobody can touch Kubrick... But Doctor Sleep does look pretty damn good. I give Mike Flanagan his props, as a good Writer/Director. I love all 3 of the IT movies, Creepshow, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Salem's Lot, Dreamcatcher, The Tommyknockers & Gerald's Game too. And the Castle Rock series is top notch! Brilliant series so far. But Kubrick's The Shining will always be my #1 favorite.

That's bcoz Kubrick faked the moon landing and hinted it through several Easter eggs in The Shining. Now that Mike is making a sequel, he is part of the brotherhood and know about the moon landing.

I can't wait to see it. I'm also excited to see the iconic axe again and when new clips or trailers get released I'm trying to look very closer to see Jack Torrance but I couldn't see him and I hope he returns as a ghost for the sequel. I hope Stephen King makes a cameo in the movie.

I read the book and just finished the movie .. I was so overjoyed to see my favorite character in the movie , "The Overlook" .. I was sad to see my favorite character die in the end but it left me asking so many more questions, where did the powerful hotel begin.. There is so much left to be told. It would be a wonderful movie to journey back in time to the beginnings of my favorite character .

Now that's what I call dedication to both novels and Kubrick film. Kubrick would be proud. I'm dying to immerse into Doctor Sleep.
I doubt Kubrick would be impressed of Flanagan and his crew for copying his visuals and production sets of his Shining film other than the gull and audacity that they did.

Yeah I really like the IT movies but in all honesty I was born in 85 and I grew up watching the IT tv movie and it's still my favorite. Doctor Sleep is definitely a much better movie

I think he recognized the need to acknowledge Kubrick's film in this one for the sake of cinematic continuity. Otherwise film viewers unfamiliar with the books would be confused.

I’m so excited to see this and I loved the original but they should’ve redid The Shining as well and did it more like the book. Would’ve been cool to see the hedge animals instead of the hedge maze.
They did it in the TV remake they did in 1997. However, the effects and overall miniseries weren't that great.

Mike's film is a blend of Doctor Sleep, Kubrick's film and Stephen King's The Shining so it's a nice blend that Stephen can get behind of

This shouldn't try be a sequel to Kubrick's Shining. That movie is so much better off as a standalone film. Kubrick's core vision was radically different from King's vision. By forcing Kubrick's grounded story into this more supernatural-fantasy like film does a major disservice to what Kubrick accomplished with his own film,in my opinion.
There is too much continuity between the two stories to ignore what came before. The only way to not make the movie a sequel to Kubrick's film would have been to remake The Shining first.

I cant believe steve and his movie producers (Disclaimer:no movie comes close to when a books world''s got you) havent tried capturing that split when youre reading and the tunnel vision to words given evaporate and in the story you are,around you,inside you,and especially in your brain vision or "3rd eye"...i just think if done right,some amazing stuff could be done and change the book/to movie world..if I had good equipment I would show what I mean or attempt anyways,its something as a reader I know I would like to see,so I know it may grab people..

It probably won't happen but what if they somehow found a way to have Jack Nicholson make a cameo. I know he's a lot older now obviously and died at the end of The Shining or did he? BWAHAHAHA!!! Silliness aside I'm so stoked for this film. Flanagan was the perfect choice I feel to direct.

It's a hodgepodge of a bunch of different shit. Flanagan wants to make his sequel to Kubrick's The Shining but he also wants to adopt King's sequel to his own Shining. So he's mashing elements from all 3 sources so he can try to successfully jerk off both King and Kubrick's ghost enough to satisfy them.
King wrote a sequel to The Shining called Doctor Sleep following a grown Dan Torrence. This is the adaptation of the sequel.
