“Doctor Sleep” continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.
Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.
Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before-at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
“Doctor Sleep” stars Ewan McGregor (“Star Wars: Episodes I, II & III,” “T2 Trainspotting”) as Dan Torrance, Rebecca Ferguson (the “Mission: Impossible” films, “The Greatest Showman”) as Rose the Hat, and Kyliegh Curran, in her major feature film debut, as Abra. The main ensemble cast also includes Carl Lumbly, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Bruce Greenwood, Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe and Cliff Curtis.
Trevor Macy and Jon Berg produced the film, with Roy Lee, Scott Lumpkin, Akiva Goldsman and Kevin McCormick serving as executive producers.
Flanagan’s behind-the-scene creative team was led by director of photography Michael Fimognari (“The Haunting of Hill House”), production designers Maher Ahmad (“Get Hard”) and Elizabeth Boller (“Hush”), and costume designer Terry Anderson (“Den of Thieves”). The music score is composed by The Newton Brothers (“The Haunting of Hill House”).
Warner Bros. Pictures presents, An Intrepid Pictures/Vertigo Entertainment Production, A Mike Flanagan Film, “Doctor Sleep.” Slated for release in North America on November 8, 2019, and globally beginning on October 30, 2019, “Doctor Sleep” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. It will be you that is on your knee's with a look of utter shock on your face. You think you know what the afterlife is which is based upon your woeful lack of knowledge of what the Bible actually says.
Your entire knowledge of the Bible is from listening to what others tell you it says. I have studied it as well as many other things relating to it for over 45 years of personal study. You have only what clowns in robes tell you without ever seeking it for yourself.
You think such a lazy approach to "seeking" is going to be rewarded? If you know anything of the Bible you would know of "the great deception" which will deceive "all but a handful". You would also know that upon the return of Christ (which is already here but you fail to recognize it) Christ says...
Matthew 7 :21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
You are going to be on your knees groveling and it will not help you. You will say "but that is what i was taught" and the answer will be "you never really tried to find out the truth and only did what you thought would buy your way into heaven". It is you that is going to feel the flames of hell.

I'm actually very against sequel culture (give it a rest Disney), and when I heard this was coming out I passed it off as just another boring rehash and wasn't going to see it.
Very glad to be proven wrong. This movie is not at all like the Shining, these trailers are pushing all the wrong bits forward and ignoring what the movie is really about. And the sites mentioning vampires? Bullshit. There are no vampires. This movie is its own beast, and is unlike any movie I have ever seen before. The few parts involving The Shining never felt forced, and were a natural part of the story. It truly was an incredible movie, the director clearly poured his heart and soul into it. It makes me kind of sad to see all these people judging it without watching, because this movie may never get the respect it deserves.

1:37 Favorite Soundtrack Part!
Edit:3.5k people need to be...corrected
2:05 Rare footage of Obi Wan losing the high ground
Obi-Wan doesn't need to be on the high ground, the high ground just needs to exist in the battle; Obi-Wan knows that when he has the low ground, he really has the high ground, from a certain point of view. Look at his battle record:
Maul: Has low ground, wins
Dooku: No high ground, loses
Greivous: Has low ground, wins
Vader: Has high ground, wins
Vader rematch: No high ground, loses
Obi-Wan with the high/low ground is canonically the most powerful Jedi. This is fact. Had Yoda not denied his request with typical Jedi arrogance, he could have beat Palpatine in the Senate building, which housed a variety of different altitudes; this so that the Chancellor could always have the moral high ground in Senate debates. But Obi-wan didn't fight Palpatine, and Yoda soon learned that you can't cleave the Sheev in a normal 1v1.
As we all know, spinning is a good trick. However, only the Chosen one can spin outside of a starfighter. Palpatine tried spinning, but he lost (but this was intentional, as losing gave him the emotional high ground when Anakin arrived). The reason for this is that spinning provides a yin-yang approach (based in Eastern philosophy on balance), giving the spinner the high ground from above and below. This is why Obi-Wan was so emotional after defeating Vader on Mustafar; he expected to lose the high ground to the spin, but Anakin failed to maintain balance in the universe, symbolic of his fall to the dark side.
Anakin doesn't hate sand for the reasons he told Padme; all Jedi hate sand, as the battlefield can rapidly change between low and high ground. This is the only reason why ______ killed ______ in Rebels. This is also why Obi-Wan hates flying; in space, there is no high ground as there is no frame of reference from which there is a high or low ground, due to the lack of gravity.
In ANH, Vader proves his newfound mastery by engaging Obi on perfectly even ground. However, he lets himself die on the Death Star so that he could train Luke from a higher plane of existence.
(Why was Vader so invested in the construction and maintenance of the Death Star? Because he knows Obi-wan can't have the high ground if there's no ground left.)
In Return of the Jedi, you can see that the Throne Room contains a variety of different altitudes; Palpatine placed these there to ensure Vader's defeat. However, Sheev failed to realize that his weakness was no ground, and should have covered that gaping pit that does nothing.
In conclusion, Obi-wan abuses spatial relativity and Buddhist doctrine in order to invoke his high-ground powers.
Going Huge Oh

well, the novel IS the "sequel" of Shining
@@jacopogreppi The upcoming Doctor Sleep movie is actually a sequel to the Kubrick film and not the Shining novel. The film is different enough from the novel that King disowned the film for changes for example here: Killing off Halloran (he is only wounded in the novel) putting the focus on Jack instead of Danny, and making Jack a less sympathetic figure among other things. And because of movie goers being more familiar with The Shining (film) the makers of Doctor Sleep decided to make it a sequel to the film rather than the novel.
@Noah Redding It's going to be more of a sequel to the film because that's what people want to see. And they already changed a bunch of stuff. For example here. Abra Stone is now a black girl...LOL! The trailer already had me hyped. I was like wow, this looks like it has excellent direction and tone. And then I saw Mike's name. This will be gold.
Yeah, but it looks like this is being presented as a direct sequel to KUBRICK’s Shining, but, having read both books and seen both versions adapted from the original novel, it would make more sense to have this be a sequel to the ‘97 miniseries IF they want to be faithful to the Novel Sequel, “Doctor Sleep”. The reason this is important will be predicated on one little spoiler:
You have to go with the original version where Jack died heroically resisting the ghosts long enough to blow up the place.
If Jack did not die a tragic hero, if he gave in like Kubrick rewrote him, then certain things about the sequel book would not make any sense for the film. Changing those is going to be very risky for the plot. The Shining and the Shawshank Redemption are the only two instances that major Changes to a King story that were just as good or better as the novel. Every other instance of significant deviation has been crap.
So, just be wary, is all. KUBRICK’s was just as good, but in a different way, I would argue. But the way he would have regarded his father growing up...
...well, I’m not getting my hopes up too much that they got it right.
...Rose the Hat is being played by a SWEAD? Aren’t there any good Irish Actresses?
At least McGregor will be on familiar territory as a heroin addict.

I don’t know why,but the book always felt really uplifting for me and so does this trailer. Of course,in the scary spooky way,but it still makes me feel good.
The book is largely about the notion that we can get out from under our horror and our trauma-I felt like the film missed the mark somewhat because the ending was different but in the book, Danny consciously makes the decision to go from angry that he has to live with this ability to finding that there is a place for him and the shining in the world.

Ok Ok because he is young kenobi
I loved the sass that the prequels gave to Obi-Wan and I appreciate his brotherhood with Anakin. I don't have any complaints when it comes to Ewan's performance.
@@moist_captain Except its pretty shoddy in TPM. He gets into it by the time Sith rolls round.
@@moist_captain WHAT brotherhood with Anakin? Anakin was a whiny brat in the prequels who couldn't stand Obi-Wan (vice versa). They had no chemistry in the prequels
Just watched the 3 hour long Director's cut. Worth it.
Highly recommended.
I barely remember the original film, and I never read the books, but this film did a great job of keeping me hooked in. No boring exposition needed for a film/book that's almost 40 years old.
I would argue that one doesn't even need to have watched the original to enjoy Doctor Sleep.
Just watch it. It's a bit dark though with the violence.
Saw it last night. By far my favorite film of 2019. 😎
Rashad Moore my favorite horror movie of all time.
Rashad Moore same
Is it scary because my friend doesnt want to watch it she doesnt even want to watch trailer so im asking People is it scary...
lea ._. It. Is scary. It’s a sequel to the shining so people will know that it’s scary as hell.
Wow wow favorite film of 2019? have you even seen Joker? Lol

Me too OMG!!
Youre a fkn idiot. The original was stupid, so is this.

Knowing Warner's clickbait.... we probably won't hear Wendy Carlos' amazing Shining Score in the actual "Dr. Sleep" movie…
Shelley Duvall: I’m glad that it’s over.
Stephen King: _There was a sequel..._

Same. Btw thoughts on the movie?

Thrills , chills & suspense . Only King could master ?
Ewan McGregor is a great choice, but if they had actually gotten Danny Lloyd back in the role, I would’ve lost my mind
They offered him the role but Tony said no

Goosebumps at the end with the Shining’s soundtrack.
@KooKoo Bananas it's a FULL SEQUEL to the 1980 film you dick. The theme music is that from the original film!
@KooKoo Bananas He's literally talking about the Shining's soundtrack. He didn't say *this* is the Shining your comment makes no sense
It is Dr sleep, sure. But it's also The Shining part 2! bloody-disgusting.com/interviews/3567118/eight-new-things-weve-learned-doctor-sleep/?fbclid=IwAR0c0BpCfLsyVLqLFLjOenaKa8EFfWcoKZE5adxQMaAZcOmm-FQ6AL7MwD0
The clinking at 0:57 also references the beginning of the third movement of Bartok’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta (used throughout The Shining’s second act).
Dr. Sleep is Stephen King's literal sequel to the shining you dipshit banana. I doubt you even know who Dr. Sleep even is in the story.
This is hands down one of my favorite book from Stephen king!! I really hope they dont do the same as they did to the dark tower. Still recovering from that:( I have high Hope's for this one. Please dont let us down!!
I was SO disappointed in The Dark Tower. They could have done a much better job if they had made it a two hour movie. The problem with so many movies adapted from S. K. books is that they make the movies too short and don't put enough content in them.
It almost feels like I was the only one who got super hyped from this trailer, then I look at the comments and everyone is talking about how it’s going to be shit before it even came out, well I’m glad to say it was a great movie and definitely a worthy sequel
Is this guy one of the twins from the shining grown up? I'm not understanding the connection.
Gail Lessard no it’s Danny Torrance all grown up, he becomes an alcoholic after his dad tried to murder his family

@Geralt of Trivia xxxvadiogralwithgod,
@Geralt of Trivia *wonders why hate the prequels since the sequels pretty much fucked luke's character, changed hyperspace, made a marry sue, two directors fighting over the story than just sharing ideas, give leia force for no reason nor give an explanation, put Yoda because why the fuck not than actual story*

@@d34d84 Dont forget it cant stand on its own and is basically limping on one foot using the old characters as a crutch while ruining their character. Oh and the villains are the most incompetent bunch of idiots I've seen in a franchise. Reusing old plot points because they have no creativity...even tho they have decades of expanded universe to pull things from. Disney dropped the ball...hard.
How many movies do you want to star in that produce a lot of memes?
Ewan McGregor: Yes
It’s not the movies. Ewan is just the best guy in the world and he is worthy of all the memes
This movie should've made more at the box office. Godamn, it was good. Thank you, Flanigan

Just watched it... it's like a 4 part tv series that was sooooo good. Wasn't expecting it to be good... to be that good. Just watch it. Such an underrated film.
I went to see this movie today, November 8, 2019. I really enjoyed enjoyed this movie, and it was somewhat scary at times. I was disappointed a little by the ending. No going to tell you to spoil it because you will have to see the movie. I've always admired the Scottish actor, Ewan McGregor. I can see the young actress Kyliegh Curran becoming more famous after her being in this movie. Rebecca Ferguson was great in this movie as well.
Carlos Bright I saw it last night and it was an awesome sequel. Possibly the best horror sequel of 2019.

I saw it last night. It was AMAZING!!! Way better than I thought it was going to be. Chilling. Disturbing, Diabolical. And a few surprises. Great characters that I cared about. Ties in with Kubrick's movie, and the original book. I'm thinking about seeing it again, and I hardly ever see movies twice.

Just me, or does Ewan's eyebrow go a little bit Jack when he's looking through the door?
I watch the movie and at random times they suddenly look super similar it's scary

There was a Star Wars film with McGregor in it? I'd almost forgotten because I've striven to forget how bad Star Wars can be when left to moronic film execs.
Ewan McGregor needs to be nominated for next year's Oscars for his portrayal of Danny Torrance!
I'd like to see Rebecca Ferguson nominated.
