Wouldn't you not want the best of you to slip away? Shouldn't it be "not letting the hardness of the world cause the best of you to slip away" or something to that effect? Or is he wanting the best of him to slip away as an escape? I was honestly confused when he said this in the trailer.

I was a black kid in the ghetto in the 90s, and absolutely no one understood me the way The Smashing Pumpkins did. I can relate to being young and hearing music outside of your culture that speaks to *YOU* the way no one within your own familial/cultural bubble possibly can.
But hey, that was when *I felt like a rat in a cage* . But now *I've woke up from that sleep and I'm happier, than I've ever been* . I sometimes go back to my old town, *and in the same old haunts I still find my friends* , and *the streets still heat the urgency of now* . And despite it all, *underneath the wheels lie the skulls of every cog, the fickle fascination of an everlasting God*

I just listened to whatever I liked never really putting any thought to it... In my house we would listen to Sugar Hill Gang, Tupac, Queen, Jim Croce all in one Saturday.

This movie is practically my life. I discovered Bruce in high school and fell in love with writing and theatre. I dressed up as Bruce when I was in college (for Halloween) and I used to have all kinds of Springsteen posters in my apartment. A friend nicknamed me "Bosslady" because they knew how much I love Springsteen. I believe everyone has an artistic soulmate-- someone who inspires them in a way no friend, teacher, or family member could. Bruce happens to be mine.

Bruce is for EVERYONE & it’s time the next generation discovers him!! I grew up in a small town in South Texas where everyone listened to Country, tejano, and Rap. Although I like a respect those areas of music, I always felt like an outsider for my interest in rock, such as alternative rock, punk, synth, etc. Growing up, I would here the music my dad would play from the stereo when he got out of work from nights, and hear him fumbling around with his cassettes. A mixture of 60's, 70's, 80's 90's 2000's. Guess it rubbed off on me a bit. No one is alone out there.

PinkGuy VEVO yeah I agree the 80s thing is kind of a trend, I almost mentioned that but this movie doesn’t seem overly produced like bohemian rhapsody 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think the concept is nice. His family is afraid he’s going to lose his culture and his roots but Bruce just sings about the tough times he’s going through. I mean it takes place in England, not America and by him putting on the outfit I don’t think he’s trying to conform to American culture I think he’s just dressing up like his idol like most people do.

I'm a Caribbean Latina who was born to a white Cuban mother and Afro-Puerto Rican father, and I have always preferred k-pop/j-pop, electronic music, soft rock, and certain alternative kinds of songs to reggaeton or any similar sounding music any fellow latino youth generally listened to. I always found the lyrics to some of the Asian songs I heard from animes poetic and meaningful, and I also appreciated the messages behind the alternative songs I found on KRplus as a teenager. Although I grew up in a fully Hispanic culture, the one musician that has always spoken to me is Owl City, abstract as his music may seem. Although most people do not appear to understand his music or the meaning behind it, his songs are ethereal and every lyric he has written makes perfect sense to me and has helped me through some of the toughest times in my life.

I saw the film tonight at a preview screening at CAAMfest 2019 (the International Asian American Film Festival in San Francisco, California). The film was a-w-e-s-o-m-e with music of the times (late 80's) but mostly Bruce Springsteen songs. The director, writer, producer of the film Gurinder Chadha was here in the house to do questions and answers. She said she got the author of the original book to work with her to write the screenplay for this film. Chadha also met Bruce Springsteen and spoke with him about the movie and screenplay and he gave the story his approval himself. I laughed and cried and tapped my feet during this film. I loved how the Boss's music was integrated into the story. Almost everyone will identify with feeling estranged from parents while growing up and struggling to find your way while dealing with pressure from parents. I hope everyone who loves heartwarming stories and excellent film-making will come out and see this film!! It'll be coming out in a few months...

A little nostalgic too given I grew up a few miles up the road in Bedford and lived through that era in England. The energy even felt good the next day, humming Springsteen ditties from the night before, so certainly will make you feel uplifted. Enjoy the movie when it releases in August. Btw: the end of the film brings the story home!.
