From Warner Bros. Pictures and Amazon Studios, “The Goldfinch” is the film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s globally acclaimed best-selling novel, which won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.
Directed by BAFTA Award winner John Crowley (“Brooklyn”), the film features a multigenerational cast led by Ansel Elgort (“Baby Driver”) as Theo Decker and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours,” “Big Little Lies”) as Mrs. Barbour.
Theodore “Theo” Decker was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day...a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. The Goldfinch.
“The Goldfinch” is produced by Nina Jacobson (“The Hunger Games” films, “American Crime Story”) and Brad Simpson (“World War Z,” “American Crime Story”). Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda, Kevin McCormick, Sue Kroll and Courtenay Valenti are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Oscar nominee Peter Straughan (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”), based on the novel by Donna Tartt, which spent 30 weeks on The New York Times Best Sellers list.
The film also stars Oakes Fegley (“Pete’s Dragon”) as Young Theo, Aneurin Barnard (“Dunkirk”) as Boris, Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things,” “It”) as Young Boris, with Sarah Paulson (“The Post,” “American Crime Story”) as Xandra, Luke Wilson (“The Royal Tenenbaums”) as Larry, and Jeffrey Wright (“The Hunger Games” films) as Hobie. Rounding out the main ensemble cast are Ashleigh Cummings (“Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”) as Pippa, Willa Fitzgerald (“Little Women”) as Kitsey Barbour, Aimee Laurence (“Chicago P.D.”) as Young Pippa, Denis O’Hare (“American Horror Story”) as Lucius Reeve, and Boyd Gaines (2014’s “Driving Miss Daisy”) as Mr. Barbour.
The behind-the-scenes creative team included Oscar-winning director of photography Roger Deakins (“Blade Runner 2049”), Oscar-nominated production designer K.K. Barrett (“Her”), editor Kelley Dixon (“Breaking Bad”), and costume designer Kasia Walicka Maimone (“Bridge of Spies”). The music is by Trevor Gureckis (“Bloodline”).
Slated for release on September 13, 2019, “The Goldfinch” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Amazon Studios, a Color Force Production, a John Crowley Film. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. “The Goldfinch” has been rated R for drug use and language.

I bought the book on a train station and started reading it on my way to a funeral of a friend, who had also been taken too young, too violently. I cried while reading it and I almost cried while watching this trailer. Back when I bought the book I couldn't have known how much it would reflect on my feelings I had during that time. The book is deeply psychological and depicts grief, guilt and morality in an incredibly complex and realistic way. To be honest I don't have too many hopes that the movie will live up to Donna Tartt's masterpiece . But the cast and the cinematography of the trialer seem promising. Read the book, people. It's truly beautiful.

Oh, I read the book, intrigued by the trailer. But unfortunately, I did not find anything great or beautiful about it, or Dickensian, or coming-of-age, to cite a few descriptions widely applied to this book. The beginning looked promising, but 1/4 into the book, it turned into a never-ending drug/alcohol trip, which is essentially what the book is: promotion of drug use. I know this sounds harsh, but I honestly tried to find more in it, and couldn't.

Priscilla Izurieta Hey, from Australia! Don’t be sorry at all ! :) The book is a definite drag but one that is really worthy. Sometimes I wanted to throw it across the room and be over it but others, I found Tartt’s writing to be so endearing. I didn’t admire any of the characters as much as one named Hobie and I liked Andy Barbour, but I don’t think liking them is the point. It makes them more real and nuanced. You keep wanting to read because they are rightfully flawed. Her ‘The Secret History’ is my favourite book for the same reasons, but ‘The Goldfinch’ is special too. It feels like an achievement once you finish it. I recommend reading it before the movie as you really get a feel of the atmosphere and ethos. You struggle with the characters and I think that’s why it might feel like a bore in some respects X Hope you’re having a great day wherever you are :)

@@priscilla2110 to be honest, Donna Tartt uses boredom in a way that you actually feel immersed into the book. Some times, you're like damn those 40 pages were useless. But then, you realize that the actions of those 40 pages are, most likely, boring too for the protagonist. I don't know if I make myself clear, but her writing is meticulously crafted to create a catharsis.

I lost my brother and my friends when I was young, everything in this trailer perfectly mirrors all of my thoughts.

The book is my all time favourite. I devoured it over a few days back in 2012 and remember the stunningly beautiful phrases Tartt used to tell the gripping story. It seems the cinematography will do those phrases justice..I CANT WAIT to see the film.

This trailer gave me chills. After the ad was done, and went back into my video. I had to like sit down, and just pause the video to breath.

This sounds gorgeous with earpieces, you can hear the piano in the beginning, quite literally in the background. Like it’s being played behind you.

I think what makes me so drawn to this movie is the fact that the trailer doesn’t give too much away. Now a days trailers basically tell you exactly what will happen in the movie from start to finish. But this trailer is so well made and leaves us needing to put the pieces together to figure out what happens. Extremely excited for this movie.

I hope this movie does the book justice, it truly is one of the best books I have ever read. It really deserves two movies, but if not I hope it's at least 3 hours.

Just saw it- it was long but it was a really beautiful movie and I loved it. if you like a bunch of action and something mindless then this isn’t for you- it’s emotional and intellectual, and teaches you something about life.

@Manisha Sinhababu to make a long story short , I was with 2 friends when a crime happened near us , police questioned us , my friends got scared and pointed their finger at me , I couldn't believe it , they believed both of them , next thing I knew I was fighting a murder charge , to make matters worse? The person killed was my friend .
They drop the case 27 months later because one of the two "friends" I was with finally confesses it wasn't me , if it wasn't for that , I'd still be in there awaiting trial , looking at 15 years for no reason .
I mean this when I say it , thank you . I screenshoted your comment , i wish you the best as well .
