Directed by Clint Eastwood and based on true events, “Richard Jewell” is a story of what happens when what is reported as fact obscures the truth.
“There is a bomb in Centennial Park. You have thirty minutes.” The world is first introduced to Richard Jewell as the security guard who reports finding the device at the 1996 Atlanta bombing-his report making him a hero whose swift actions save countless lives. But within days, the law enforcement wannabe becomes the FBI’s number one suspect, vilified by press and public alike, his life ripped apart. Reaching out to independent, anti-establishment attorney Watson Bryant, Jewell staunchly professes his innocence. But Bryant finds he is out of his depth as he fights the combined powers of the FBI, GBI and APD to clear his client’s name, while keeping Richard from trusting the very people trying to destroy him.
The film stars Oscar winners Sam Rockwell (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”) as Watson Bryant and Kathy Bates (“Misery,” TV’s “American Horror Story”) as Richard’s mom, Bobi; Jon Hamm (“Baby Driver”) as the lead FBI investigator; Olivia Wilde (“Life Itself”) as Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Kathy Scruggs; and Paul Walter Hauser (“I, Tonya”) stars as Richard Jewell.
Oscar winner Eastwood directed from a screenplay by Oscar nominee Billy Ray (“Captain Phillips”), based on the Vanity Fair article “American Nightmare-The Ballad of Richard Jewell” by Marie Brenner. Eastwood also produced under his Malpaso banner, alongside Tim Moore, Jessica Meier, Kevin Misher, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson and Jonah Hill.
Eastwood’s creative team includes director of photography Yves Bélanger and production designer Kevin Ishioka, along with longtime costume designer Deborah Hopper and Oscar-winning editor Joel Cox (“Unforgiven”), who have worked with Eastwood throughout the years on numerous projects. The music is by Arturo Sandoval, who scored 2018’s “The Mule.”
Warner Bros. Pictures Presents a Malpaso Production, an Appian Way/Misher Films/75 Year Plan Production, “Richard Jewell.” The film will be in theaters on December 13, 2019 and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Did he end up being innocent?
I think it's weird how they just automatically said the person that found it it's the person that put it there that's kind of weird..
It's not logical to the comparison that they made of "a person who found the body first is always the first person of interest"
I watch a lot of forensic files and I just don't think that's the same analogy. I'm also not a cop tho. Lol.
The media can have a whole country thinking someone's guilty though, when in all honesty they don't really know. People these days have a hard time forming their own opinion, they just go with what's popular etc.

At the time this incident happen I knew that Richard Jewell was innocent. People like to falsely accuse other people. There was no evidence and by studying human nature people like to lie and manipulate. the bomber called 911 saying that there is a bomb in the park. it was not Richard Jewell's voice. And another AJC journalist wrote a story that while the 911 call was being made, R. Jewell was in the park. It was not possible for Richard Jewell to leave the park and walk to make the telephone call and walk back to the park.

Richard Jewell: A movie that goes home with his pockets empty, but with his head held high.
As a critic, I give it 8/10. One more great movie to Clint Eastwood's list. The performances of Olivia Wilde and Jon Hamm were solid, but Kathy Bates, Sam Rockwell and Paul, by God, Paul Walter Hauser were the best, they never left the script for a second, they took their roles seriously and managed to be praised by the public. Unfortunately, the movie turned out to be a box office failure that grossed just $ 43 million against a budget of $ 45 million, and that seems disrespectful to me.
Richard Jewell shows us as a guy who saved thousands of people's lives from an attack, they point out that he is guilty of planting that bomb and being considered a "false hero", when in fact HE was the hero and still is. Richard Jewell is not boring, but explosive, but in a pleasant, dramatic and emotional way.

If only he were alive to see the film and get some recognition. He would have deserved it.

I just saw this movie today. I read all the hype that came out at the last minute. This is a damn good movie and every American should see it. Now, whenever Hollywood says something's based on a true story often that deviates from that. We all know that. When I was young they told me Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on a true story for example. I recommend every American watch this movie

A remarkable acting job by Paul Walter Hauser playing the part of Richard Jewell. R.I.P. to Richard .

I lived right next door to Miss Jewel for a couple of years when I was in Atlanta. She was such a sweet lady. It's absolutely heinous what the media did to her son; making him out to be a villain.

If I had been there at the same time the media/FBI complex tried to crucify her son, I would have taken over some home cooking to them to express my support.

Your wording is a bit confusing.

      @Matt M Totally agree.
Kathy is terrific in all that I've ever seen her do, especially playing Annie in "Misery."

An underrated film, brilliant performances that were unfortunately underestimated at the awards.

This was one of my favorite movies from last year. The media and critics crushed this but it was well done. Rockwell, Hamm, and Bates were fantastic. The guy that played Richard did an amazing job.

When I was a kid in the 40's our movie theater showed 2 double headers each week with the changeovers on Sunday and Wednesday. This meant that I would see 4 movies each weekend. The cost to my parents, both Italian immigrants, was a total of 60 cents for the weekend: 25 cents for admission and 5 cents for a candy bar. As kids we were happy and safe, and Hollywood gave us great entertainment. Today, the cadre of self-aggrandized actors are so disgusting that since 1997 I have been in a theater 3 times, and the 4th will be in December.to see Richard Jewel. Thank you, Clint. Can't wait.

I just came out of a screener, all I can say I'm deeply moved... an amazing movie. Eastwood keeps outdoing himself and Paul Walter Hauser is phenomenal... it hit me when I realized he was stingray from the Cobra Kai series, don't miss this movie.

I saw the movie only yesterday, and I got angry all over again, just as I was clear back in 1996, when the FBI and media originally tried to railroad the real Richard Jewell.
It just sickens me how these monsters tried to ruin the life of a good and decent man, a genuine American hero.
He lived to only 44 years, almost certainly having his life unusually short because of the incredible stress that the media/FBI complex put on him, not at all unlike what is happening right now with the same bad actors and our president.
May Richard Jewell rest in peace.
