- Warner Bros. Pictures will release a cinematic film version of Bruce Springsteen’s latest album, Western Stars, worldwide, on the big screen. Longtime collaborator Thom Zimny directs together with Springsteen in his directorial debut. The announcement was made today by Toby Emmerich, Chairman Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “Western Stars,” which will make its world premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, is slated for release this fall. However, fans can get an exclusive first look ahead of New Line Cinema’s “Blinded by the Light,” opening in theatres nationwide today.
Springsteen’s first studio album in five years, Western Stars marks a departure for the legendary singer/songwriter while still drawing on his roots. Touching on themes of love and loss, loneliness and family and the inexorable passage of time, the documentary film evokes the American West-both the mythic and the hardscrabble-weaving archival footage and Springsteen’s personal narration with song to tell the story of Western Stars.
“Western Stars” offers fans the world over their only opportunity to see Springsteen perform all 13 songs on the album, backed up by a band and a full orchestra, under the cathedral ceiling of his historic nearly 100-year-old barn.
Emmerich stated, “Bruce lives in the super rarified air of artists who have blazed new and important trails deep into their careers. With ‘Western Stars,’ Bruce is pivoting yet again, taking us with him on an emotional and introspective cinematic journey, looking back and looking ahead. As one of his many fans for over 40 years, I couldn’t be happier to be a rider on this train with Bruce and Thom.”
Western Stars, Springsteen’s 19th studio album, has achieved global success. It has been #1 on the iTunes charts on every continent, including such countries as the U.S., the UK, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, India, South Africa, and all of Scandinavia, among other countries. It has also received rave reviews, with critics using words like “hauntingly brilliant,” “beguiling,” “gorgeous” and a “masterpiece.”
Springsteen and Zimny, who together helmed “Western Stars,” have collaborated on several projects over the years, including the documentary “The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town,” and the Netflix filmed version of the Tony Award-winning “Springsteen on Broadway,” which Zimny directed.
“Western Stars” is written and performed by Bruce Springsteen, with Special Guest Patti Scialfa. Thom Zimny, Jon Landau, Barbara Carr and George Travis produced the film, with Springsteen serving as executive producer. The original score is by Springsteen. - 엔터테인먼트

This album helped save my life. There are many days this past year when I have felt like giving it all up. But hearing this album, part of me thinks Bruce wrote it just for me. Those western stars are shining bright again.

....I’ve spent 35 years tryin to let go of the destructive parts of my character. And I still have days when I struggle with it. We all have our broken pieces, in this life, nobody gets away unhurt. We’re always trying to find somebody whose broken pieces fit with our broken pieces and something whole emerges....
I legit lost my shit during the bit about broken pieces. I really, really needed to hear that.
The destructive parts are a struggle on a weekly basis....thank you Bruce to admit this, despite all your success, you still suffer with the rest of us. This latest work really helps us mear mortals get through life in one piece! 🙂

Remember seeing his concert, Born in the USA, at Wembley Stadium in 1985. He played 3 hours non stop. Excellent . look forward to seeing Western Stars.
The man might have demons he's had to wrangle, but the music itself has never failed to push us toward our better selves. I feel very grateful to be able to call on his voice when needed

He is has been saving my life for 40 years. There is no one who can explain the human condition any better, and give you such hope for a better tomorrow as he does. I wish that all the saving he's been doing for decades on end will finally go full circle and come back to him with the total release of demons and darkness and the inner peace he's been searching for. No one has done more for the insight, spirit, and the hopes and dreams of my generation than he has. The movie was both moving and spectacular.
I'm so inspired by the way Bruce is still so engaged with his work. A lesson for us all. Find your sweet spot and explore it for as long as the road goes!

Saw this film with my dad. Gives a 19-year-old kid like myself a lot of perspective on life. There is no creed, group, or person that cannot take something from this. Words and music as powerful as this deserve to be shared!
Literally cannot wait for this. Western Stars has become my favourite Springsteen album now, and now it’s getting an epic cinematic film performance! What a fabulous idea!

Saw a trailer for Western Stars when I went to see Joker. It left me feeling very emotional. What soul Bruce has. The cinematography looks stunningly beautiful. Looks like the kind of movie that would have you bawling your eyes out. Not really sure what was going on but the emotions run wild on you watching this trailer.

This was surprisingly beautiful in a way I had not anticipated. For a Springsteen fan, this is church.
Had tears in my eyes as soon as this film started. I've been a fan since Born to Run and his songs touch my heart like none other. I love his vulnerability and his honesty. We are all broken in one way or another....thank god Bruce's music can fix my broken pieces.

Pretty easy to tell that "Chasin' Wild Horses" will be one of those songs that will be way better live.
Then again, that applies to most of his songs.

it's already touched my sole,just the ambiance of the trailer....bruce has always written about certain times /periods of his life and hes told the storys in concert and brought the fans along with him as he told the story.storys we all live as americans /humans and now old folks do not have to say i only like the music of my past/youth when here is an artist who's writing about our present experiences getting older...no,,hes not a caricature of his younger self.always preforming songs written about his youth....hes doing what hes always done ,hes bringing us along on his journey through life.a life that we all live on one level or another.... and i look forward to the movie.

I think Bruce is so special it's kind of beyond words. There is no other modern American performer I would say that about. And yet I have to say that first song was a lot better when it was called Gentle On My Mind.
