    She is the pianist I have always hoped I would see and hear in my lifetime. Her playing is full of expression and technical brilliance without the dramatic rolling about and distorted facial expressions so beloved of (dare I say) less competent performers. All her energy and concentration goes into the finger ends with sublime results making pedals almost superfluous. Thank you, Miss Rana.

    This recording is to me a reveleation of this great composition by Bach. I have heard recordings of several accomplisched pianists play this piece beginning with Glen Gould, Murray Perrahia, Rosalyn Turek, Angela Hewit, Bruno canino Lang Lang etc. I saw this in Amazon Music and was thinking how can such a young Pianist bring out the music in these notes better than these old Stallwarts. I had recently watched Rana play parts of Bachs French Suits in arte TV live and was not that impressed with it because I had the playing of Glen Gould in my mind. So I thought I will just hear how she plays the Aria. Wow! how transparent, clear, balanced the different lines of music there. Precision! no hint of affectation! I cannot stop at the Aria! How brilliantly she plays the quick variations with what subtility and softness the slower ones! How she gives space and dimentions to the music! How she creates such beauty and freshness out of these notes of music without the sligtest trace of artificial virtuosity . Simply Amazing. I have an Amazon Music Abonnement but I must have this CD! Thank You Beatrice Rana!

    So, it's called the Goldberg variations because it was written for a dude named Goldberg to play for his Lord or whatever to sleep. Bach was payed a cup of gold or silver for it

      I beg to differ, her rendition of this piece is pretty much diametrically opposite to Gould's. I happen to love both.

      @JacquesOeslick 4 년 전 +3

      Il existe deux enregistrements des variations Goldberg par Gould... la plus récente impressionne par son intelligence contrapunctique, ses tempi et nuances extrèmes et assumés, et par un rigorisme absolu. Qui ne serait pas influencé par ce géant ? Mais quand j'écoute Beatrice Rana, l'influence de Gould est assez peu présente ; l'interprétation de Béatrice Rana est certes intelligente et solide, mais se distingue de celle de Gould par une souplesse générale et un rubato léger et charmeur tout à fait étrangers au jeu de Glenn Gould ! Bref ces deux artistes ont droit à notre amour et à notre admiration.
